Bet Builders & Toolkits
What is a Bet Builder?
A Bet Builder in effect allows you to build and place your own multiple/accumulator within a single sporting match.
Depending on the game you want to bet on and the bookmaker you place it with, there’s a range of markets to select from. Examples include:
Match result (Team X to win)
Correct score (Team X to win 3-0)
Number of goals (Over/Under X goals in the match)
Will both teams score? (Yes or No)
Goalscorer (Player Y to score first, last, anytime)
Player shots/shots on target (Player Y to have Z+ shots on target in the match)
Player bookings (Player Y to be booked in the match)
Corners (Over X amount of corners in the match)
You are only limited by what the bookmaker offers in the bet builder section of the particular game you’re betting on. If it’s something huge like a big Premier League/Champions League match then chances are you’ll have a wide range of markets to pick from. The more basic the game is, the less markets and variation tend to be on offer.
What are the best practices when picking a Bet Builder?
When picking out a Bet Builder I do a lot of research and due diligence first before placing the bet. I’ve briefly listed a lowdown of my best practices:
Build a picture for the game - Who is expected to dominate possession/create more chances and ultimately win? If you expect it to be one sided then does Team X to win look like a good bet. Or do you think it’s going to be a tough one to call so it might be best to stay away from the result but back something like both teams to score or corners?
Check the stats/fans forums/match previews - To enhance your picture or help build it then take in resources that are out there. If you’re looking at a player to have Y+ shots on target or be booked then how many does he average so far this season? Fbref/Who Scored are good websites to find those stats and you’ll quickly see whether the stats match up with what you’re looking at and you think something looks good/doesn’t. If you’re unsure on a game then fans forums/match previews are a good way to help you understand how a game might go/which team/players are in form or not and what the atmosphere is like around a club etc.
Check the latest team news/injury list - This is important if you’re picking any players in the bet builder. Make sure he isn’t injured/suspended. If you’re picking within 1 hour of kick off then check the line up and make sure he starts. If he doesn’t come on then the selection will be voided but if he comes on for the last 10 minutes the full bet will stand. It’s also useful to check the opponent Player Y will come up against - Jack Grealish was by far the most fouled player in the Premier League 2020/21 season so I’d always do some digging into the right back he’d come up against to see whether he looked good for a booking.
If there’s a big TV game on where I know there'll be player shots on target and bookings markets available then I’ll post a stats toolkit on my Twitter which can be really useful when picking out selections. Keep an eye on my Twitter feed ahead of big games to find these.
How do you place a Bet Builder on Betfair?
Simply go to the match screen of the game you want to bet on and click the Bet Builder tab at the top of the betting markets, this will display all the available selections for that match.
You simply scroll down and click on the odds of the different bets you fancy to add each one to your slip. In the background it will be creating a single combined bet from your selections.
Once you’re done picking, head to your betslip to confirm you’re happy with the bet you’ve build, you’ll be able to remove any you think twice about, enter your stake and hit place bet to lock in.
Where can I find Bet Builder tips?
