Bobby Thomas 1+ Fouls Won
SUPER SUB
Arrow down

Bobby Thomas is integral to this Coventry side, and we very much saw that in his man of the match display against Forest prior to the international break. He’s a committed defender, he’ll throw himself into every challenge, and as a result, he actually draws a few fouls in those duels.

In fact, only one player in the Coventry squad has drawn more fouls than Thomas this season, with the centre back averaging 1.63 fouls drawn P/90. He’s the mark of consistency as well, having drawn a foul in 100% of his league outings this term.

This is perhaps the ideal matchup as well. Bobby Thomas is going to find himself up against Yoane Wissa, who has committed more fouls than any other player in the Newcastle squad this season; he averages 2.04 fouls P/90, and will be relentless in the press. Keep an eye on Matias Fernandez-Pardo as well, who may be more of a physical match for Thomas; he too averages over 1.00 fouls P/90.

Harvey Barnes 2+ Fouls Won
SUPER SUB
Arrow down

We’re arguably looking at the key man for Newcastle here. Yes, he can provide goal contributions, but Harvey Barnes can offer much more, and the focus here has to be on drawing fouls.

No player has drawn more fouls than Barnes in the Newcastle squad this season, and it’s easy to understand why. He’s very comfortable on the ball, and is keen to take his man on at every opportunity. He’s drawn 10 fouls so far this season at an average of 2.00 P/90, and whilst Barnes isn’t always drawing two within a single game, he’s yet to play a game without drawing a foul this season.

Caleb Yirenkyi was utilised at right wing back prior to the international break by Lampard, and with their being a strong chance he plays there again, he’s the ideal opponent. Yirenkyi has committed more fouls than any other player in the Coventry squad this season, averaging 3.00 P/90, and comes into this having committed 11 in his last two in all competitions.

Coventry 4+ Corners
Arrow down

Coventry have certainly struggled in the early stages of this season, but whilst results have been difficult to come by, they have certainly found success in other areas.

Their shape lends itself to wide play, with wing backs that like to bomb forward and stretch the opposition. Holding that width can give them an edge when it comes to winning corners, and we’ve seen that over the last few weeks. Coventry average 4.00 corners per game, but that number sees an increase to 5.50 per game at home. They’ve won at least four corners in three of their five outings, including both of their home games to date.

With the crowd behind them, I’d expect them to rack up some decent numbers against Newcastle. Heading into this weekend, no team had conceded more corners than Newcastle in the league this season, with Matthias Jaissle’s side shipping 6.00 per game. They’ve conceded at least four corners in four of their five outings so far, including both away games, and conceded seven to Hull in their most recent league fixture.

Bryan Mbeumo 1+ Shot on Target
SUPER SUB
Arrow down

There's no denying how poor Man United have been recently but Mbeumo's record in this market is brilliant.

Looking at games he's started in this season, his record reads: 2-1-1-1-1-1-2.

That's a 100% hit rate across all competitions and he'll be key for United going forward.

He's also averaging 3.14 shots P/90 across all competitions so far this season - only Bruno has taken more.

Liverpool managed five shots on target vs Atletico, albeit at Anfield but Real Madrid and Villarreal both managed 3+ at the Metropolitano.

Alex Baena 2+ Fouls Committed
SUPER SUB
Arrow down

Only Lee Kang-in has committed more fouls for Atletico than Alex Baena, with the Spanish midfielder averaging 2.00 P/90 in La Liga.

Looking at their record domestically, Atletico average 13.75 fouls committed at home, compared to 11.25 when playing away.

Baena committed three fouls vs Real Madrid in his last league start, and one vs Alaves on Saturday after coming on at half time.

He also committed one vs Liverpool in GW1, before being taken off in the 70th minute.

His record for Spain in the Nations League interests me too, he committed five fouls vs Croatia and one vs England in just 36 minutes.

Atletico To Win or Draw
Arrow down

Atletico's 2-1 win over Alaves on Saturday extended their unbeaten run to four games, which includes a home victory over Real Madrid before the international break.

They’re also unbeaten at home in La Liga this season, scoring 2+ goals in every game with an aggregate scoreline of 10-2.

United have won just twice this season, against newly promoted Ipswich and Sabah.

They registered an xG of just 0.80 vs Spurs on Saturday and were fortunate to come away with a draw. Tuesday night will be a real test for them.
