Brighton vs Marseille Stats Pack, Bet Builder Tips and Predictions

Brighton vs Marseille Bet Builder Stats Pack Featured Image

Brighton and Hove Albion host Marseille in a UEFA Europa League clash that will decide the winner of Group B. There’s a sentence Brighton fans didn’t think they’d be reading a few years ago. The Premier League outfit started slowly in Europe, falling short against AEK Athens before a come-from-behind draw at the Velodrome, but they have won their last three, including doing the double over Dutch giants Ajax. They have also learned how to win in the league again too, beating Nottingham Forest and Brentford recently.

Like Brighton, Marseille had a tough start in Europe with high-scoring draws against Ajax and Brighton before a trio of wins secured their place in the knockout phase, including an injury-time win against Ajax last time out. While both sides have secured qualification, victory is likely to secure an easier route through the competition, something both clubs would prefer. It means there is plenty to attack in your Brighton vs Marseille bet builder and fortunately for you, we’ve broken down all the numbers to make life easier.

Brighton vs Marseille Predicted Lineups

De Zerbi difficult to predict

Roberto De Zerbi can be difficult to predict given his preference for rotation but his hand is being forced by injuries. Ansu Fati, Adam Webster, Pervis Estupinan and Solly March would normally be near the top of the list to start but they remain absent. It means teenager Jack Hinshelwood could get another opportunity at left back while Adam Lallana is likely to step out with Kaoru Mitoma expected to return.

Gattuso may revert to a four

Gennaro Gattuso has chopped and changed formation this term and he may opt to revert to a back four against Brighton. Jonathan Clauss was sent off at the weekend but will be fine to play here with him and Lodi expected to step back as full backs. Two stars of last season’s Championship could return to the team in Iliman Ndiaye and Ismaila Sarr.

Brighton vs Marseille Team Stats

Brighton games see a lot of cards

When you play such an open, vibrant style of football, it’s always likely that teams are going to have to commit fouls or drag people down. Brighton have picked up two or more yellow cards in 17 of their 22 matches in all competitions this season, including four of their five Europa League outings, while drawing two or more in 18 of 22, with three of those coming in the Europa League – poor Ajax couldn’t get near the South Coast outfit.

Marseille attacking Europe with gusto

Marseille have attacked the Europa League and it has worked out well for them. They have created at least 1 xG worth of chances in all five matches, helped by having at least ten shots and four shots on targets minimum. They have conceded at least 1 xG in each match, however, leading to four or more of their games finishing with both sides having scored and four or more goals being scored overall. Fun.

Brighton vs Marseille Shots and Shots on Target Stats

Gross in with a disgusting record

Pascal Gross plays a wide variety of roles for Brighton, from either full back position to the base of midfield but he’s enjoying himself in the final third of late, managing an impressive 11 shots in his last three matches with six of those being on target – he’s 2.3 to have a shot on target and 1.91 to have 2 or more shots. Joao Pedro has managed a shot on target in his last five matches and is 1.36 to match that.

Aubameyang still has it

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has had a curious career but there is little doubting his ability to get shots away. The Gabon international has averaged over three shots per 90 this season (he’s 1.2 to have 2 or more and 1.73 to have 3 or more) and has managed a shot on target in his last four appearances and three of his four Europa League appearances (1.53 for a shot on target).

Brighton vs Marseille Goals and Assists Stats

Pedro is the joint-top scorer in the Europa League

Joao Pedro is thoroughly enjoying his first campaign of European competition, currently sitting top of the goalscoring charts after netting in four of his five Europa League appearances – including one in the reverse fixture in Marseille. The Brazilian has quickly established himself as first-choice penalty taker at Brighton and he has had a shot on target in his last five matches, only helping the idea that he could bag another important goal.

Aubameyang is the joint-top scorer in the Europa League

That’s right. The only person Joao Pedro has not scored more goals in the Europa League than is Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The ex-Arsenal striker has also scored five goals, including a hat-trick against Ajax. That hat-trick has sparked a hell of a run for Aubameyang who has scored six goals and assisted three in his last four matches – you can back him to contribute to a goal at anytime at 2.63. That’s a bigger price than Facundo Buonanotte for reference.

Brighton Cards and Fouls Stats

Brighton need to be on guard against Marseille

While Brighton tend to collect cards, they are hit-and-miss in the foul department. While Evan Ferguson sits highest for fouls per 90, it’s Joel Veltman that is worth looking at here with the Dutchman having committed a foul in 9 of his 12 starts this season. Jack Hinshelwood has committed a foul in three of his six starts but won’t have faced an opponent quite like Ismaila Sarr.

Sarr is one of two key players to mention here. The ex-Watford man remains one of the quickest players around and he has been fouled in all nine starts and twice or more in six of those. Another player to keep an eye on is Amine Harit, the Moroccan creator who has been fouled in all 14 of his Marseille starts this season, including twice or more in ten of those starts and a whopping nine times in his last two outings.

Marseille Cards and Fouls Stats

Defensive cards left, right and centre

Renan Lodi picked up a reputation for liking a card and a foul at Nottingham Forest last season and he’s got a similar reputation in France already. The left back has stepped up his efforts recently, committing three or more fouls in four of his last five starts while being booked in four of his last six. Meanwhile, centre half Samuel Gigot has committed a foul in nine of his 12 starts and right back Jonathan Clauss was sent off at the weekend.

It’s Gigot that may have the most fun on Thursday. He’s going to be tasked with stopping Irish sensation Evan Ferguson, who has been fouled in his last five starts, and Brazilian wonder Joao Pedro, who has been fouled at least twice in all five Europa League starts while averaging just shy of three fouls drawn per 90 across all competitions. A note for Joel Veltman, who has been fouled in 10 of his 12 starts in all competitions and twice or more in seven of those.
