There were 2.53 goals on average in games involving Bournmouth last year. They really struggled at the back, conceding the 3rd most in the league (71), and only managed 5 clean sheets at home.

West Ham had a great run in Europe last season but their league form suffered as a result. An average of 2.55 goals in their games and they also really struggled at the back, conceding managing just 3 clean sheets on the road.

Without Rice screening the back line, West Ham could be under more threat of giving away chances in that space on the edge of the box, right in front of the defensive line.

Each of the last 9 meetings between The Cherries and The Irons have seen O1.5 goals, with 6 of the 9 having O2.5.

Exeter vs Blackpool

As with Charlton in the previous selection, Exeter also scored and conceded a fair bit. Second in League One for goals per game with 132 in total, 2.87 on average. Exeter are bettering that so far this season with 3-0 and 2-1 against Wycombe and Crawley respectively.

With the 4th highest BTTS rate (52%) and the 4th worst clean sheet record (26%), there is a great chance of goals in any game featuring Exeter.

2.61 goals per game for Blackpool last year, combined with Blackpool’s 48% BTTS rate, goals are looking promising.

Blackpool took a lot of punishment in the division above, but this year, they look to be the ones scoring. This isn’t hard to imagine as The Tangerines bagged the most goals of the relegated sides last year.

Departing top scorer Jerry Yates will be missed for sure, but a combined 4 goals from Beesley and Lavery in the opening two games stands Blackpool in good stead.

Peterborough vs Charlton

Peterborough equals goals, simple as. Their games saw an average of 2.8 goals per game, they recorded the second highest O1.5 percentage (80%), and were joint top in the O2.5 market (59%). A record they shared with free-scoring Ipswich Town.

As well as their goalscoring, Peterborough also conceded a fair amount. Their 54 goals against and 30% clean sheet rate would rank them worst League One’s top 9. As I said earlier, Peterborough equals goals.

Another side who are not strangers to goals is Charlton. Despite their 10th place finish last year, a combined 136 goals for and against had them joint top for goals per game, an average of 2.96!
Charlton both scored and conceded at high rates, so I wasn’t shocked to see they were the number one side for BTTS last year, occurring in 61% of games.

Harrogate vs Forest Green

Second to only relegated Hartlepool, Harrogate recorded 2.76 goals per game last year. 76% of games saw O1.5 and a league best 57% of games seeing O2.5!

57% of Harrogate’s games also saw BTTS, unsurprising when you see their 24% clean sheet rate.

FGR dropped out of League One with a crash, picking up just 27 points and conceding 89 goals, it’s fair to say League Two is more their level.
2.61 goals per game last year, with BTTS in 57% of away games and ZERO clean sheets on the road. I think goals are a certainty.

The defensive issues of last year haven’t gone away, despite playing in a lower division FGR conceded twice against Salford in the league opener.

Since Harrogate’s promotion to the football league in 2020, these sides have squared off four times. 3.25 goals per game and each of the last three games seeing O2.5g with both teams scoring.

Mansfield vs Morecambe

A thrilling 2-2 draw with Crewe Alexander opened Mansfield’s season in real style. The Stags will be disappointed to lose a two goal lead but also happy to take a point after surviving the best part of fifty minutes with ten men.

This game continued Mansfield’s trend of high scoring games with 2.76 goals per game. Again, as with the opening fixture, Mansfield also saw a high proportion of BTTS – 61%.

The Shrimps started off life in League Two with a 2-1 against Walsall. Continuing a run of four consecutive games of O2.5 goals from last season.

Last year Morcambe games saw 2.72 goals on average with 57% of away games seeing O2.5, the second highest in League One.

Morecambe really struggled for clean sheets last season, just 1/23 on the road. This has carried over into the new year as Morecambe have conceded in each of their first two games.
