Mainz vs Bayer Leverkusen

Calendar 30th September

Mainz are in serious trouble. They sit just one spot of the bottom of the table on goal difference and have only managed a draw from their first five league games.

Even Augsburg who survived relegation by the skin of their teeth last season managed to grab a win against them last week.

They’ve only scored four time this season, which is the worse record in the league. And they’ve conceded 14 goals, 2.80 per game. A record only beaten by bottom of the table Darmstadt and Bochum who were torn apart by 7-0 by Bayern on the weekend.

Leverkusen’s season couldn’t be more different. They sit second in the table, just behind Bayern Munich on goal difference.

They know that if they can keep up the momentum then they could seriously challenge the dominant Bayern for the Bundesliga title.

These teams are just miles apart from each other at the moment. Mainz have yet to win a game, whereas Leverkusen have yet to lose one. This should be a one-sided affair with a clear Leverkusen victory.

Koln vs Stuttgart

The focus here is all on Stuttgart. Well, more specifically it’s on Serhous Guirassy.

This man is on fire. He’s bagged 10 goals in just five league games.

Only four other Bundesliga teams have scored more goals than him. Yep, 13 teams haven’t scored as many goals as this single guy. Some of them aren’t even close.

It’s no wonder then that Stuttgart are the league joint-second highest scorers with an average of 3.40 goals per 90. Only Bayern Munich more.

Koln sit in 16th with issues in front of goal. Their defence is not atrocious for a team in their position but against Stuttgart this will go out the window.

I’m expecting Stuttgart to dominate here and grab 3+ goals by themselves.

Maidenhead vs Chesterfield

There’s no doubt about it: Chesterfield are by far the best team in the National League this season.

Sure, their defence leaves a lot to be desired. But who needs one of those when you score 31 league goals in 12 games and show no signs of stopping.

Chesterfield have won 10 of those 12 games played and are on an incredible seven game win streak.

So will Maidenhead ruin the party this weekend? No…they’re awful.
Maidenhead have scored just seven goals in 12 games with only Kidderminster scoring fewer.

They’ve also lost their last five league games in a row and haven’t won a game in well over a month.

Needless to say, Chesterfield should breeze past Maidenhead with no issues on Saturday afternoon.

Feyenoord vs Go Ahead Eagles

My final pick is the acca sees Go Ahead Eagle travel to Feyenoord and this one has goals written all over it.

Feyenoord have scored 23 goals in six games. Yes, 23 goals in just six games!

That averages to 3.83 per 90. A stat that increases to 4.00 when Feyenoord play at home.

Feyenoord have won their last four games and they’ve all been high scoring: 0-4, 6-1, 1-5, 6-1.

Go Ahead Eagles also score a decent number of goals, 2.00 on average per game.

They also concede 2.00 goals per game, but they definitely have an issue against stronger sides. They lost 3-0 to PSV last weekend and 5-1 to AZ Alkmaar on the opening day of the season.

I wouldn’t put it past Go Ahead Eagles to pick up a goal here, but really the focus is on Feyenoord and their incredible scoring record.

Slaven Belupo vs Osijek

You won’t normally see two Croatian teams in my Saturday acca’s, but this one was too good to ignore.

How’s this for a stat: games involving Osijek average 4.63 goals per game. That’s what happens when you’re both the league’s top scorer and yet have one of the league’s worst defences.

Across their opening nine games of this season, they’re averaging to score 2.63 goals per game whilst also conceding 2.00 goals on average.

There are few teams in the league that conceded more than them, Slaven Belupo are one of them.

They concede 2.44 goals on average and are the only team in the league who have yet to grab a clean sheet.

These teams last faced each other in July, the score line was 6-1…
A similar result is possible here.
