Leipzig vs Bochum

A quick look at Bochum’s stats this season, and it would come as no surprise to see me tipping Leipzig goals in this one.

This selection is as much about the quality of the hosts as it is about the weakness of the away side, and it makes for a tasty affair.

Leipzig are fierce in forward areas. They’ve netted 16 times in their 6 Bundesliga games thus far, winning 4 and drawing 1 of those.

They’ve scored more than once in all but 1 league game as well, and that includes fixtures against German giants Bayern Munich, and league leaders Leverkusen.

The goals have been shared around as well, with Leipzig boasting 9 different scorers, summer signing Lois Openda leading the way with 4.

As for Bochum, they’ve been atrocious defensively, and boast the worst defense in the league. They’ve conceded 19 times in 6 games, for an average of 3.17 goals a game.

They’re yet to keep a clean sheet in the Bundesliga, and I don’t see that changing here.

And for an added bit of spice, this landed comfortably in this exact fixture last season, Leipzig scoring 2 either side of the break in a 4-0 win.

Celtic vs Kilmarnock

Celtic have a chance to move 10 points clear of Rangers, heaping pressure on to their managerless rivals.

Celtic top the table, having taken 19 points from a potential 21 available and remain unbeaten.

They’ve scored 16 goals in 7 games under Brendan Rodgers.

There’s revenge to be had here too, after Killie knocked them out of the cup at the end of August.

This selection has landed in 4 of the last 5 meetings between the two at Celtic Park.

That cup scalp has been by far and away the highlight of Kilmarnock’s season so far, they’re joint 2nd bottom, having taken 7 points from 7 games.

Celtic create a lot, and I mean a lot of chances. They’ve averaged 2.33 xG so far this season in the league, even that 0-0 draw with St Johnstone saw them rack up 2.21 xG.

They even won the xG battle against Lazio in midweek. Despite losing.

If they play anywhere close to that standard though, it should be a comfortable day at the office.

Zurich vs Winterthur

It’s been a strange few years for FC Zurich.

They really turned up the books the year before last, as they won the league title for the first time since 2009, which was also the last time someone other than Basel or Young Boys won it.

It’s the only time in the last 6 years that YB haven’t taken the trophy back to Bern.

The season that followed was poor. Zurich finished in 8th, 30 points behind the champions.

But, fast forward to now, and they’re causing havoc again.
They’re top of the table, unbeaten and have scored more goals than any other side in the league.

They come in to this one having scored 4 times away at a very good Luzern side.

Winterthur are actually join top scorers with Zurich. Incredibly, they also have the worst defence in the entire division and have shipped 20 goals in just 9 matches.

Those goals have been heavily contributed to on the road, with Winterthur conceding 14 times in just 4 away games.

They shipped 5 to Basel, and 5 to Young Boys. They’ve conceded 2 or more in all 4 of their games on the road.

Antonio Marchesano, who fired in 13 in the title winning season, looks back to his best after a poor campaign in 22/23. The Italian already has 4 goals & 2 assists this season.

Winterthur away games have saw them give up a huge 2.43 xG on average.

Braga vs Rio Ave

A Champions League outfit against a side sat 3rd from bottom? Rio Ave’s trip to Braga screams goals, but only for the hosts.

Braga have equipped themselves well in UEFA’s flagship club competition, and they really are going along nicely in the league as well.

Sure, they may only sit 5th, but Braga are surprisingly the top scorers in the Portugues Primeira, with 18 goals in 6 games.

They’ve netted a minimum of 3 goals in all but 3 of their games in all competitions, including in their trip to Union Berlin in midweek.

Braga have a whole host of goalscorers at their disposal as well, with the likes of Ricardo Horta and Simon Banza both on 5 apiece.

The pair themselves may be too much for Rio Ave to handle as it is. The away side have conceded 12 times this season, with their only clean sheet coming against bottom side Chaves.

I’d be surprised if this is anything other than a comfortable win in Braga’s favour, and given their goalscoring output this season, a goal in both halves is well on the cards
