Djurgardens to win
Djurgardens have had a cracking start to the new season and they’ve suffered fewer defeats than any other side in the Swedish top flight. They’re keeping pace with Malmo at the top, and they can actually go above them this weekend if they can get the win over Hacken that I’m predicting (Malmo are not in action this weekend)
The hosts are in great form going into this, they’re 7 matches unbeaten in the league and they’ve keep clean sheets in 4 of their previous 5. Djurgarden’s have actually got the best defence in the Allsvenskan… They’ve conceded just 7 goals in 12 matches and that’s 9 fewer than league-leaders Malmo!
Djurgarden’s won their latest home match 5-1 and Hacken were spanked 5-1 on their most recent away trip to Aberdeen. As far as the head-to-head record between these two goes, Djurgarden’s dominate to put it lightly. They’ve won the last four meetings on the spin and 6 of the last 7 that they’ve hosted.
Basel to win
Basel finished 2nd in the league last season but they were absolutely blown away by Young Boys who finished a huge 31 points ahead of them. They’ll be hoping to bridge the gap this time around and they’ve had the perfect start after a 2-0 win over Grasshopper’s on the opening day. They’re also doing quite well in the UEFA Conference League, they picked up a 5-0 aggregate win in the latest round and will take on Hungarian side Ujpest from next week.
Basel will be aiming to make it four straight wins this weekend and I am confident in them doing the job over Sion who began the season with a defeat. Basel always do well against Sion, especially at home… Basel have won 9 of the last 10 meetings with Sion on home turf and that’s an incredible record that they’ll be hoping to extend.
Sion were atrocious for the most part last season and they only survived by winning a two-legged relegation play-off against Thun. Another reason for me being confident in Basel on Sunday is the fact that Sion have a lot of injury concerns to worry about. During my research I found that they’ll be missing a total of 8 players and that’d be an issue for any club, I don’t care who you are.
GrIFK vs PIF – Over 2.5 Goals
The Finland lower league’s and Scandinavian league’s in general can be an absolute gold mine for goals and I think this particular selection in the Finnish Kakkonen is a beauty. It’s 2nd vs 3rd with GrIFK playing PIF and the goals averages are pretty tasty to the least.
GrIFK have played 8 matches so far, they’ve scored 19 goals and conceded 13. That’s an average of exactly 4 goals scored in their league matches and you’ll do well to find an average that high elsewhere. PIF have scored 16 goals and conceded 10 across 7 matches, that’s an average of 3.71 for them which is also very high.
This should be a high-scoring affair with both sides scoring surely, I’m very happy with my over 2.5 goals selection. They both know how to find the net as they both average 2+ goals scored per game and they also don’t keep many clean sheets.
Hammarby to win
And finally… We’ll be heading back to the Swedish Allsvenskan as I’m predicting a win for Hammarby on their trip to Ostersunds.
Things are looking rosy so far for Hammarby, they’re sitting in 4th currently which is respectable and they’ve scored more goals than any other side bar the leaders Malmo. They’re in amazing form heading into this weekend, they’ve won their last 5 matches in succession.
Ostersunds’ on the other hand, they’re having an extremely difficult time this season. They’ve lost 8 of their 12 league matches so far and that’s the joint worst record in the league, the only thing stopping them being rock-bottom of the Allsvenskan is goal difference. Relegation looks like a real possibility this season.
Another concern for Ostersunds’ is their difficulty when it comes to scoring. They failed to score in their last couple of league matches and they had the worst attacking record in the whole of the Allsvenskan last season. They narrowly avoided relegation last campaign so the last thing they can afford is yet another goal drought.
Hammarby have dominated the head-to-head in recent years, they’ve won the last four meetings on the bounce. It was a 3-1 for Hammarby when they made the trip to Ostersunds last season, I’d be happy with that score line again for sure.
