Arsenal vs Chelsea
Both Teams to Score
Whenever these London derbies between Arsenal and Chelsea occur, they’re often fairly entertaining matches. 6 of the last 7 meetings between these two in all competitions has seen both sides find the back of the net. I’m loving both teams to score here when you have Arsenal who are extremely capable going forward but can be completely embarrassing defensively at the same time. Chelsea have scored 8 goals across their last three matches so I’ll be surprised if they don’t breach this Arsenal defence at least once.
Christian Pulisic is expected to start for Chelsea and he’s been in great form. He has picked up 4 goals and 4 assists in his last 9 appearances. Olivier Giroud should also play and he’s in red-hot form too as he’s scored in 5 of his last 6 outings, including in his last three on the spin.
A front three of Pepe, Lacazette and Aubameyang is expected for the Gunners, and that’s certainly enough to cause Chelsea problems. Aubameyang alone scored 22 goals in 36 appearances this season, and he bagged a brace in their last match against Watford.
4 or more corners taken each
I don’t read too much into head-to-head meetings, I regularly make a point of that. However when these two last met in January. The match was a goal fest ending 2-2, Chelsea had taken a ridiculous 17 corners, and Arsenal had taken 5. There can certainly be a repeat of that today in a match that’s as big and as glamorous as an FA Cup final.
If we take a look at the corner statistics for these teams this season then they certainly work in our favour when it comes to this part of the selection. Arsenal over the course of the season averaged 12 corners per game, 6 for themselves and a total of 6 for their opponents. Chelsea averaged 6.5 corners per game, whereas their opponents had 3.5. In a competitive final which I expect this to be, 4 corners each doesn’t appear to be a big ask, if you’re asking me.
Sandefjord vs Molde
Over to Norway where I expect Molde to pick up three points during their trip to Sandefjord. Molde bounced back impressively from that defeat against league-leaders Bodo Glimt with a 4-1 thrashing of Valerenga.
Sandefjord are a newly-promoted side and they’re struggling currently as they’re hovering just above the relegation places, although it’s early days still in fairness. One thing that they should be concerned about is the lack of goals they’re scoring. They have found the net just 9 times which isn’t ideal when you compare it with Molde’s total of 33 after 11 matches.
Sandefjord don’t score many, and Molde don’t concede many. These are the kind of statistics that give me confidence in backing a Molde win, especially as they are chasing Bodo early on, a side who just cannot be tamed at the moment…
Molde have won 9 of their 11 Eliteserien matches so far and they have bagged at least 3 goals in 4 of their last 5 so it’s going to be extremely difficult for Sandefjord to pick up a result with them having the second-lowest goal total in the league. Sandefjord have suffered 7 defeats from their last 9 league matches, losing two of their last three.
During my research I always try and find players we should keep an eye on, and this time it’s most likely Molde’s Ohi Omoijuanfo who has picked up 2 goals and 2 assists from their last couple of matches.
Atalanta vs Inter Milan
Here we are, how could I let the final weekend of Serie A matches pass without touching Atalanta in some way? These two sides have been phenomenal when it comes to goals this season, so I’ll be taking over 2.5 goals here. It should be a really intriguing match-up as the winner will finish in second place and runners-up to Juventus.
These sides are the two highest-scoring teams in the entire league. Atalanta have scored 98 goals across 37 league matches this season, they could be the only side the reach three figures. Inter Milan are the side behind them in terms of goals scored with a total of 79. After working out their goals averages for the season, Atalanta have averaged 3.89 per game, and Inter Milan have averaged 3.10 – it makes for good reading for us as we need a few goals between these two for this selection to be a winner.
Atalanta have dismantled many sides and picked up so many impressive results at home this season. They have enjoyed scoring for fun on home turf as they’ve scored at least twice in 10 of their last 12 at the Gewiss Stadium in Bergamo. The most notable wins this season have been the 7-1 over Udinese, a 5-0 win over AC Milan, and a 6-2 win over struggling Brescia more recently.
Inter Milan should contribute with goals here as they’ve scored 5 goals in their last two and they have forwards in excellent form. Romelu Lukaku has scored 3 goals across his last 5 appearances, and they also have Lautaro Martinez and Alexis Sanchez chipping in with goals and assists.
AC Milan vs Cagliari
It’s the final match-day in Italy this weekend, I’ll be backing AC Milan again who have served us so well over the last few weeks. AC Milan have done well to see off Napoli’s challenge for that final Europa League spot, and that is testament to their extremely good form…
AC Milan are still unbeaten after the Italian league returned from the Covid interruption, that’s a stretch of 11 matches without defeat. Milan have won 8 of those 11 matches and all of the wins saw 2 or more goals scored. That’s why I’m going for Stefano Pioli’s side to beat Cagliari with over 1.5 goals scored in the match. AC have scored 15 goals across their last 5 home matches which is a nice average of 3 goals scored per game.
Cagliari beat Juventus in their last match, a team who had already been crowned champions and had their heads on the beach. Prior to that, Cagliari had gone 8 matches without a win and they had failed the find the net in 5 of them. We should also consider their terrible away form as they have picked up just one win in their last 14 attempts on the road. Cagliari were beaten in their last two away matches in succession, with both games seeing over 1.5 goals.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic should start up top of AC Milan, the big Swede has scored 6 goals in his last 8 appearances as well as picking up 4 assists during that time. He scored a brace in their last match as they were comfortable 4-1 winners over Sampdoria.
