Want to know why I picked each selection in this accumulator? Read my reasons below:
Servette vs St Gallen
Make no bones about it, this is a huge clash in the Swiss Super League. St Gallen are chasing the title, they’re currently level on points with Young Boys but behind on goal difference.
As for Servette they currently hold down the last Europa League spot but they’ve got Zurich and Luzern breathing down their neck.
After a host of missed chances and goals chalked off at the wrong times, St Gallen will have been left furious with their 3-3 draw at Lugano last time out. They deserved to and should’ve won the game but that draw drops them back in to second. They simply have to keep winning if they’re to make their title dreams a reality. That draw was only their second dropped points since the league restarted. They’ve actually won more games than any other side in the league (18/29) that’s why I’ve opted for draw no bet rather than double chance.
Serviette have really struggled since the return. Their win over Luzern last time out is their only victory in 6 games. They will put up a fight here as this game has great importance for them too but I don’t feel they can match the quality of St Gallen.
The man to watch here is Jordi Quintilla. The Spaniard has been the shining light in this wonderful squad, his creativity and ability on the ball underpin everything they do, let’s hope he steps up for this massive game.
Aalesund vs Bodo Glimt
It’s top vs bottom in Norway here and I fear for newly promoted Aalesund as they face off against this monstrous Bodo Glimt side.
Bodo have won 6/6 so far and scored 24 goals, which is frankly ludicrous. I’ve watched them a few times since the league started and I’ve been blown away, they’re so sharp, creative and well regimented and aside from Molde I see it as unlikely that any side in the league can stop them when they’re on their game.
Bodo brought in Danish striker Kasper Junker for this campaign and he’s had an incredible start. Two hat tricks and a total of 8 goals in their first 6 games. He’ll be eyeing up a few more here against such a leaky defence.
It’s been a tough step up so far for Aalesund. They’re winless in the top flight and have conceded a league-high 19 goals. They’ve really struggled to build on the extreme dominance they had in the league below last year and they look to be in for a long season. They’ll get a win sooner or later but I simply don’t see it happening against a side this good.
Slaven Belupo vs Lokomotiv Zagreb
We’re off to Croatia for this next selection to back the lesser known side from Zagreb.
Lokomotiv took this season to cut official ties with their ‘big brother’ club Dinamo Zagreb after establishing themselves firmly as a top flight club now. They’re better than that though as they currently occupy second spot, they’re some way behind the league leaders but they’re in line for a Champions League qualification place which would be absolutely huge for them.
They sit just one point above Osijek then they’re 5 clear of Rijeka and 6 ahead of Hajduk Split. The top 5 of the league have really broken away. There’s 7 points between 5th and 6th and then a further 13 back to 7th where you find the hosts in this one – Slaven Belupo.
Lokomotiv have lost just once since the restart and even managed to beat their giant neighbours Dinamo.
Belupo have won just twice since the league resumption. They’re in no danger of going down but have no chance of getting any European football. Their season is over. Zagreb will be full of motivation, we only need them to win one half of football for this to land. I do think they’ll win the game but 1.4 for a half, as opposed to 1.7 for the straight win, seemed a good safety net to me.
Napoli vs AC Milan
I’ve been really impressed by both these sides since the restart and this has all the hallmarks of a really great encounter.
We’ll start with the hosts – Napoli. They’ve lost just once since the restart and that was to Atalanta. That was also the only time they’ve failed to score in their last 15 competitive matches. They have shown themselves to be vulnerable at the back though. Relegation threatened Genoa and Spal both found the net against them, as did Roma.
AC have been brilliant recently and are starting to look like the old AC Milan, which hasn’t been the case for years now. The Rossoneri are unbeaten since the restart and they’ve not had an easy run but some of their results have been exceptional. They beat Roma 2-0, Lazio 3-0 and Juventus 4-2. I think they’ll get something from this game but at the very least they’ll get on the scoresheet.
There are no fresh injury issues for either club so we should see an array of attacking talent here such as Ibrahimovic, Rebic, Chalhanoglou, Mertens, Insigne and Milik.
Sevilla vs Mallorca
This game has potentially big implications on both ends of the table. The hosts currently sit in 4th, level on points with Atletico Madrid and 6 clear of Villarreal in 5th. Staying in the top 4 means Champions League football for Sevilla and the opportunity to finish 3rd and as the best of the rest is also very attractive.
The hosts are unbeaten in their 8 La Liga games since the restart. This includes taking points off Atletico and Barcelona. Then on Thursday evening they overturned a 1-0 deficit to beat a very well organised Bilbao side which was an incredibly impressive result.
Mallorca have picked up some vital wins recently against Levante and Celta Vigo, however their record against the better sides in the league is abysmal. They’ve lost 8 of their 9 away matches to sides in the top half by 2 or more goals. They also have the league’s worst defence – conceding 59 times in 35 matches.
Mallorca have managed 1 away win all season. They’ve lost 14 times in 17 on the road and have claimed a league-low 5 points from a potential 51.
