Last night we were very, very close. A couple of corners and a Luis Suarez shot on target away from a 34/1 winner. Tonight I’ve dropped the odds down slightly and requested this at 19/1 – I think it looks like yet another cracking bet.

Man United vs Atalanta
Man United vs Atalanta will be a brilliant game to watch and it’s a shame that I won’t be watching it. For those of you who aren’t familiar with Atalanta, they’re basically the Italian version of Leeds. They play an intense style of attacking football and are always great on the eye, with United conceding goals for fun lately they’ll definitely make a game of it.
Looking at their goals averages, Man United are averaging 3.25 goals per game in the Premier League and Atalanta have an average of 3 goals per game in Serie A.
Both of Man United’s previous Champions League outings saw 3 goals scored and Atalanta’s recent trip to Villarreal in the UCL finished all square at 2-2. Atalanta have scored in every away game they’ve played so far this season and I fancy them to continue that run at Old Trafford. Man United come into tonight’s game on the back of conceding 4 goals at Leicester last time out.
Atalanta to take 3+ corners
Going back to what I said about Atalanta’s attacking style of football, a minimum of three corners taken by them shouldn’t be too much to ask for. They took 3+ corners in both of the Champions League games they’ve played so far. They’ve played both Milan clubs in the league in recent weeks and they took a massive 20 corners between those two games.
Atalanta average 5.50 corners per game and Man United average 3.80 corners conceded per game.
Mason Greenwood 1+ shots on target
I’m backing Mason Greenwood to have a shot on target in this game and it’s the kind of match where I can see him having plenty of chances. Greenwood has had a really good start to the season, he’s scored four goals in eight so far and he’s averaging 1.45 shots on target per 90 minutes.
Mason Greenwood will be full of confidence on a personal level after his performances against Leicester over the weekend. He had a massive five shots, a couple on target, and of course he scored a screamer.
Chelsea vs Malmo
Chelsea to score 2+ goals
I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Chelsea win tonight and that’s not a biased fan speaking. There’s no value in backing us to win so I’ve gone for us to score at least a couple of goals this evening. Malmo are the whipping boys of the group and their two Champions League results so far show that… They opened the campaign with a 3-0 home defeat against Juventus and then they were spanked 4-0 away at Zenit. If Zenit can score four, how many are we going to get?
Chelsea to take 5+ corners
It’s going to be a completely one sided affair so five corners for the Blues is more than achievable and should be a given in my opinion. We average more match corners than any other Premier League side this season and tonight’s the whole lot might just go our way. We took 7 corners in our first UCL game at home to Zenit and then we went on to take 8 during our trip to Juventus.
Malmo 2+ cards
Malmo’s disciplinary record in the Champions League has been poor and I imagine frustration has a lot to do with that. It’s must be terrible to be a superior team domestically but then play two games in Europe where you lose both, concede seven and fail to score a goal for yourselves. Malmo have picked up four yellows and a red card across their first two matches, a couple more tonight seems very likely.
Werner 1+ shots on target
Having listened to Thomas Tuchel’s press conference it’s sounding like Romelu Lukaku will be getting a well-deserved rest tonight. That provides Timo Werner with an opportunity to have a big performance on the Champions League stage in front of our own fans.
Werner is averaging 1.15 shots on target per 90 minutes in the Premier League and I’m sure he’ll feel like he’s got a point to prove tonight having not been given any minutes in Europe yet.
Benfica vs Bayern Munich
Benfica 3+ shots on target
Benfica vs Bayern is the third and final game I’m focusing on and it should be a pretty decent game in fairness. Bayern are exciting because they’re scoring goals for fun right now but they also tend to give their opponents plenty of chances. A perfect example of this was against Leverkusen at the weekend, Bayern won the game 5-1 in the end but the hosts still managed to have four shots on target.
I like the look of three attempts on target for Benfica, especially at home. Benfica are averaging six shots on target per game in the league and they’ve also had plenty in the Champions League. They had four shots on target away at Dynamo Kiev and an impressive six shots on target at home to Barcelona during a 3-0 win.
Benfica 2+ cards
A couple of cards for Benfica looks obvious to me, they’ve picked up seven yellow cards in two games in the Champions League. They had three bookings on their trip to Ukraine and then another four yellows during that comfortable win over Barcelona.
Bayern Munich 5+ shots on target
5+ shots on target can sound like a lot on occasions, but not when you’re talking about Bayern Munich of all teams. They average more shots than any other Bundesliga side and they have an average of 8.40 shots on target per game in the league… I know they’re almost in a league of their own but that’s still a ridiculous number.
Bayern Munich have had 11 shots on target in each of their last couple of league games. In the Champions League, they had seven shots on target in Barcelona and another seven shots on target against Dynamo Kiev. They’re very reliable as far as shots on goal go.
Bayern Munich 1+ cards
I fancy a competitive game tonight between the two sides at the top of Group E, it’s worth noting that neither side has conceded in the Champions League yet so I don’t think Bayern will have it all their own way. Bayern picked up at least one booking in both game so far, a couple in the win over Barcelona and another one late on against Kiev.
The referee in tonight’s game is a Romanian fella called Ovidiu Hategan. He’s refereed one Champions League game so far and that was a game between Atletico Madrid and Porto. He handed out nine yellow cards and one red during that single game.
