Want to know why I picked each selection in this accumulator? Read my reasons below:
Blackburn vs West Brom
West Brom and Leeds are starting to peel away at the top of the Championship but the job hasn’t been finished quite yet. The baggies are second and 5 points clear of third place Brentford with just 4 games to go.
West Brom had a little wobble when the football finally returned, they failed to win any of their first two. However they are starting to look their best again as they have won their last 3 on the bounce, scoring 9 goals.
One thing that impresses me about West Brom is their strength away from home this season. They have won 4 of their last 6 away matches and they have only lost 3 of their 21 matches away from the Hawthorns so far this season which is pretty solid to say the least.
Blackburn have teased a run towards the play off places and they’re actually only 5 points away. However their form has been pretty dreadful lately, losing to some poor sides. However they did pick up a big win against Cardiff in their last match as we all know.
Blackburn have lost 3 of their last 4 and have won just 2 of their last 9. They were well beaten by Leeds in their last match at Ewood Park, I’m expecting West Brom to pull off a similar result as they look to get their promotion bid over the line.
Lazio vs Sassuolo
It’s a strange one at the top end of Serie A. Lazio slumped to a horrible defeat to Lecce which dealt a huge blow to their title hopes, however in the same evening Juventus were beaten by AC Milan. With Lazio still to meet the old lady and Juve facing a tough fixture against Atalanta later on, things might not be as simple as they seem in the race for the Scudetto.
Lazio are priced at just 1.62 to win this, but after their last two defeats I’m avoiding that and going for goals. All of their last 5 games have seen over 2.5 goals and their average for the season sits at 3.2 per game. Only 3 sides have had more games (23/31) finish with 3+ match goals this season.
One of those is opponents Sassuolo – they’ve been in the bets a few times recently and have always delivered. They average 3.5 goals per game and have a league high 25 games seeing 3+ goals. Their last 7 straight Serie A games have all seen over 2.5 goals.
This one should be a thriller, there’s no reason for either side to hang about. Both have enough firepower to do damage. Sassuolo only play in one manor and that’s direct and attacking, Lazio have been shakey in defence recently and the visitors will look to capitalise.
Akhmat Grozny vs Zenit St Petersburg
Zenit are a side I’ve dabbled with recently during in-plays and they’ve worked an absolute treat. They’re priced up at 2.5ish to win this game, which caught my eye immediately.
They’ve already won the league, but realistically that’s been in the bag for quite sometime and they’ve still continued to perform. I think that’s been factored in to the price, like they’re expected to ease off but personally I don’t buy in to that at all. The visitors have lost just 2 games this season and conceded only 15 goals in their 27 matches which is absolutely outrageous. Since the league returned, they’ve won every single game, scoring at least twice in each one.
I think the distance is a factor here too, that’s part and parcel of playing in Russia. Grozny is around a 5-6 hour flight away. This may be an issue for smaller clubs but not for a big rich superpower like Zenit. They travelled an almost identical distance last week to a better side in the form of Krasnodar and smashed them 4-2.
Grozny’s form looks good at a glance but they’ve only really played teams around them, the highest they’ve had to face is Tula in 11th, in their one bigger test at home to 3rd placed CSKA they were beaten 4-0!
One final thing – Zenit haven’t been beaten since a 1-0 defeat to Lokomotiv Moscow in September.
Aarau vs Winterthur
The meeting between Aarau and Winterthur in the Swiss Challenge League looks like a beauty of pick for goals. Aarau have averaged 4 goals per game this season and their opponents today have averaged 3 per game.
To give you an idea why this looks good for goals, I will quickly reel off the scorelines from
Aarau’s last 7 matches – 4-4, 5-0, 4-1, 1-3, 5-2, 5-4 and 4-1. Quite ridiculous, that is 6 of their last 7 league matches seeing ‘over 4.5 goals’… we are only needing 3 or more today.
Winterthur are right up there when it comes to the ‘good for goals’ category. In regards to their last 4 matches, they read 3-1, 5-2, 2-2 and 1-4.
6 of Winterthur’s last 7 Challenge League matches have seen Over 2.5 goals scored. It looks like a given today between these two sides and the odds reflect that with it being the shortest odds selection in the accumulator.
Atalanta vs Juventus
As mentioned, this is a huge clash in Italy. After a horrendous collapse in Milan, The Old Lady need to respond here or risk putting themselves under serious pressure if Lazio win their game earlier in the day.
Juve have conceded in their last 3 games, those were against Milan, Torino and Genoa. Now they face what is by far the deadliest attack in the league and to be honest, I’d never dream of backing against an Atalanta goal. They’ve scored 85 times in 31 games this season which is 18 more than the next highest side.
Atalanta are still making a push for 2nd place and are only 2 points behind Lazio. They do make a habit of upsetting Juventus and stepping up to the big games. The boys from Bergamo have suffered just one defeat in the last 3 head to heads and have scored in every one of those meetings, with Juventus scoring in 3.
Dybala returns for the hosts, adding to the plethora of attacking talent on display in this one.
