Besiktas vs Dortmund
Erling Haaland 1+ shots on target in each half?
Champions League action over in Turkey this evening in what looks set to be an absolute goal fest between two sides who have been great entertainers domestically. With the expectation of goals you’d imagine there’ll be plenty of opportunities for the strikers on display in this match. Neither of these sides will be content with sitting back and will play to take all 3 points.
With that in mind, let’s talk about Haaland. What can you even say about him at this point? he’s a born goal scorer, a classic number 9 who leads the line and makes deadly runs. Pair that with his devastating finishing and you’ve got a player who, is already great, but will only get even better – a pretty frightening thought.
Haaland is averaging 2.24 shots on target per 90 for Dortmund and he’s taking an avrage of 5+ shots a game. He’s not much of a distance shooter, so that shows you how many opportunities he’s having to pull the trigger. Dortmund have the highest xG in the Bundesliga, even better than Bayern.
Haaland got a brace at the weekend in a thrilling 4-3 win at Leverkusen. He got a hat trick on International duty and is now on a run of 5 games in a row where he’s scored at least once. He’s got 5 goals in just 4 league games and his Champions League record is mind boggling. He’s scored 20 times in just 16 games in Europe so I think you know what I’m going to suggest here.
It’s got to be a yes, I expect a mountain of goals in this one and nobody on the pitch is more likely to be involved than Erling Haaland.
Beat the drop tip: Yes.
Club Brugge vs PSG
Will there be 4 or more goals?
It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for since the news of the move was announced. Messi, Neymar and Mbappe will line up together from the off for the first time since the Argentinian moved to Paris. It’s a momentous occasion and surely there’s going to be goals aplenty in this one.
Taking a look at the odds, it’s currently 2.25 for over 3.5 goals and 1.7 for under 3.5. I’m slightly surprised by that, I would’ve expected those prices to be slightly closer. I often advise playing with the odds on Beat The Drop, as you should use that as a key factor when making a decision; however I think you’d be a brave man to choose no here.
The Parisians are on a 5 match winning run and have been spanking in the goals, alarmingly for their Belgian opponents, that has been largely without the services of their world beating front 3. In those last 5, only Mbappe has started more than 1 game, yet PSG have still scored 16 goals across those matches.
They can be liable to shipping a couple too. They conceded twice to both Strasbourg and Brest, as well as conceding to newly promoted Troyes on opening day. So I expect that the hosts could play a part here as well.
Club Brugge currently top the Belgian league, and have scored 15 times in their opening 7 matches. They’re a formidable force domestically and will play to cause PSG problems here. Let’s not forget this Brugge side scored twice at the Bernabeau in last seasons competition. Noa Lang scored 16 for them last season and already has 3 goals and 4 assists this campaign, Hans Vanaken is also a hugely talented player who’s scoring goals from midfield.
I think Brugge could cause PSG issues here and maybe nick a goal, but ultimately PSG will run out as easy winners. Playing against the odds here and being bold, I think this is another goal fest. It is also the shortest odds for goals of any game in the Champions League this evening.
Beat The Drop Tip: Yes.
