Hibernian travel to Motherwell in their opening game of the Scottish Premiership season on Saturday. Last season the Hibees comfortably secured a 3rd place finish and secured European football and Jack Ross’s side will be looking for a repeat of that achievement this year. Aberdeen are expected to push Hibs much closer this season so they know they’ll have to be at their best and kicking off the season with a win would be as good a start as they could ask for.
Hosts Motherwell, who finished 3rd in the 2019/20 season, struggled last year and could only manage a finish in the bottom 6. Graham Alexander, who was brought in January last season to steady the ship, has now had a full pre-season under his belt with the side and will be hoping he can improve their fortunes this season. However, they’ve lost two massive players in towering defender Declan Gallagher, who signed for Aberdeen, and box to box midfielder Allan Campbell who moved down south to Luton Town.
Motherwell have been nothing special so far this season, and despite winning 3 out of their 4 league cup games they weren’t entirely convincing in any of the games against lower league opposition. Hibs on the other hand have impressively navigated their way to the next round of the Europa Conference league qualifiers after a decisive 5-1 aggregate victory over two legs against Andorran side Santa Coloma.
Last season these sides managed one win apiece and a draw when they faced off in the league, with Hibs claiming bragging rights in the Scottish cup where they knocked Motherwell out on penalties.

Prediction & Betting Tip
Hibernian should have too much for Motherwell in this one, with two proven goalscorers at this level in Martin Boyle and Kevin Nisbet I can see them causing this new-look Motherwell side a whole host of problems. I’d be confident in backing the Hibees to get the win and think 2.2 looks like fair value.
