France – Win tournament
France are the favourites for the tournament and rightly so, I’ve predicted them to go all the way. The only thing the French have going against them is that they’re part of the group of death which includes Germany and Portugal. I don’t think that will phase them at all as they’re the best of the three and they obviously have the experience of winning the World Cup in 2018.
As well as the World Cup experience, they’ve also got individuals who’ve won everything at club level or at least played in major finals. Ngolo Kante is the obvious example and they’ve got so many more world class players it’s ridiculous. They’ve got the choice of Benzema and Giroud up front now which has increased their fire power.
When it comes to Euro 2020, my heart says England but my head says France. And sometimes you have to be realistic and honest, it’s France’s to lose. Once France are out of the ‘group of death’ I think they can breathe as they’ll have an easy route to the semi-finals by potentially facing Ukraine and Scotland.
Denmark – Reach quarter-finals
Denmark are definitely capable of having a good run during this summer’s tournament. They’ve got several experienced players who play at elite level and they’ve been part of a group draw that has been kind to them. Yeah Belgium is a tough one to take, but they’re superior to both Russia and Finland in my opinion.
Say the Danes get beat by Belgium, I would still expect them to beat the two remaining nations which would give them 6 points and second spot most likely. In my tournament prediction I had Denmark running into Turkey in the last 16, and while I do rate Turkey, I think Denmark would edge that fixture seeing them reach the quarter-finals.
There’s so many names that you’ll recognise in their squad, Schmeichel, Christensen, Eriksen, Hojbjerg, Braithwaite, Poulsen and Dolberg to name a handful. Finland will be the whipping boys and Russia can’t stand up to that quality man for man.
Scotland – Qualify from group
I’m not sure if everyone will agree with me when it comes to Scotland but I do honestly believe that they’re a lot better than people think. It’s the best squad they’ve had in a long time and there’s a couple of names that would be capable of being in the England team. We should win the group but it’s quite open for that second spot, I’ve already mentioned that I think Croatia are now old and that Czech Republic are very average.
It’s not often that we see Scotland at a major tournament so they’re going to be right up for it, you could see from the moment they qualified just how much it means to the players. It’s not always about having the best players, sometimes just wanting it more can see you prevail. Anyhow, I think they’re more than capable of edging out the Czech’s and Croatia and then anything else from there is a bonus for Scotland.
Don’t forget there’s always the possibility that Scotland could sneak through as one of the better performing 3rd placed nations. We’ll have to see how it plays out but I fancy them to join England in the knockout stages by finishing as runners up,
