Portugal vs Slovakia

You’d be brave to bet against Portugal given their performance in qualifying so far, and I certainly won’t be going against the grain here.

Roberto Martinez’s side still have a 100% record intact in Euro qualifying, and whilst 2nd placed Slovakia have already represented their toughest test to date, I don’t see them getting a result out of one of Europe’s elite nations.

Portugal played against Slovakia just last month, and came out on top in a 1-0 win. Sure, a tight scoreline, but it was pretty comfortable all things considered.

Not to mention, the reverse fixture sees Portugal as hosts, and they’ve been immaculate on home soil.

16 goals scored, 0 conceded, and 3 wins from 3, that’s a ridiculous record, regardless of who you’re playing against.

In fact, Portugal haven’t even conceded a goal in qualifying full stop, so good luck Slovakia when it comes to breaking them down.

Despite sitting in 2nd, Slovakia haven’t really found their spark as of yet. They’ve scored just 8 goals in 6 games, and even if they were to net here, I’d argue they’d need 2 just to get a draw.

With Portugal boasting the likes of Rafa Leao, Joao Felix, Jota, Pedro Neto, Bernardo Silva, and Bruno Fernandes amongst others, I can’t see past a win for the 2016 champions.

Austria vs Belgium

This game is really going under the radar, and I actually think it’s one of the standouts this weekend.

Austria and Belgium have been by far and away the two best teams in their group. They sit level on points, having only dropped points to each other in a 1-1 draw back in June.

But surely there are no other decent sides in their group? Well, you’d be wrong. Sweden haven’t missed a Euros since 1996, yet they sit 3rd, 7 points off the pace.

Austria have already dispatched of them twice as well in 2-0 and 3-1 victories, and have proven that they have everything they need to trouble Belgium.

They’ve scored 12 in 5 games, with their matches averaging 3.20 goals. Each of their games have finished with a minimum of 2 goals, including that draw with today’s opponents.

Speaking of Belgium, they’ve been near perfect. That 1 goal conceded to Austria remains the only goal they’ve conceded, but as mentioned above, Friday’s hosts have more than enough about them to grab a goal or two here.

Whilst Belgium have seen major stars age, and even retire in the case of Hazard. They’re still incredibly deadly.

They’ve scored 13 in 5, with a match average of 2.80 goals. And, with the group essentially at stake in this very game, I really do expect 2 or more to be scored here.
