Lyon vs Angers

They slipped up at Rennes last time out, but were on course to win there too before Tyler Morton’s late dismissal triggered a dramatic capitulation and an eventual 3-1 loss.
Les Gones can bounce back here against an Angers outfit they’ve bested in each of the clubs’ previous five encounters. However, any margin of victory that Lyon secure is likely to be slim.
Angers have conceded just one goal in three of their first four Ligue 1 games of the season and they showcased their defensive acumen in August when they limited champions PSG to a narrow 1-0 win in Paris.
On that evidence, Lyon are unlikely to cut loose in the final third here, though Angers have been averaging fewer attempts per game (7.80) than any other outfit in the Ligue 1 so far, so the visitors aren’t expected to attack with any menace.
Combining a home win with under 3.5 goals feels like a snug fit in the circumstances and moves the prices into much valuable territory at even money.
Stuttgart vs St. Pauli

Stuttgart’s Super Cup loss to Bayern Munich set the trend and was quickly followed by a 2-1 defeat against Union Berlin on matchday one in the Bundesliga.
Die Roten squeezed past lower-league Eintracht Braunschweig via penalty kicks in the DFB Pokal before breaking their duck for the season against Gladbach (1-0), though they lost the xGF battle (0.80 to 1.80) on that occasion and were fortunate to escape with maximum points.
The gloomy mood around the club deepened when Stuttgart lost star striker Nick Woltemade to Newcastle during the international break, while a convincing defeat to Freiburg (3-1) when club football resumed last weekend was another confidence-denter.
In contrast, St. Pauli’s unbeaten record is still intact and a haul of seven points from nine has positioned them among the front runners. The visitors impressed in each of their first three outings against Dortmund (3-3), Hamburg (2-0) and Augsburg (2-1), and they seem to have sharpened their cutting edge over the summer.
St. Pauli completed the league double over Stuttgart last season, so it’s a little strange to see them priced so generously in multiple markets ahead of Friday’s game. We’ve chosen to back them at even money in the double chance stakes against their wilting hosts.
Middlesbrough vs West Brom

Boro have looked the part under summer hire Rob Edwards, dropping just two of the first 15 points on offer in the second tier, while conceding just three times in five Championship fixtures along the way.
Edwards won the first Championship Manager of the Month award for his efforts in August and with a 100% record to protect at The Riverside on Friday, we expect Middlesbrough to see off a challenge from West Brom.
Boro slipped up for the first time this season at Preston (2-2) last weekend, though a draw at Deepdale, where recently relegated Leicester and Ipswich have already lost, looks like a useful pickup in retrospect.
WBA meanwhile, have been averaging 2.00 points per game this term, though they have looked short on inspiration in the final third, netting one or fewer goals in four of their five Championship assignments since August.
Middlesbrough, who beat the Baggies twice to nil last season (albeit under different management), look well-equipped to outgun their visitors on Friday evening.
Boro also look more balanced at the back with their three-man defensive unit of Luke Ayling, Dael Fry and Alfie Jones excelling, and with that trio providing the platform, they can cement their position at the summit of the Championship with a fifth win in six games.
