Austria claimed top spot in Group D after a narrow defeat against France was followed by two convincing wins against the Netherlands and Poland.

Turkey meanwhile won twice in Group F to finish second, with Portugal claiming top spot based on their superior head-to-head record, having beaten the Turks 3-0 on matchday 2.

Austria vs Turkey Predicted Lineups

changes likely from Ralf Rangnick

Patrick Wimmer is suspended, so is certain to miss out on this one, likely to be replaced by Marcel Sabitzer. That opens up the number 10 role for Christoph Baumgartner, while Michael Gregoritsch slots in for Marko Arnautovic upfront. On the right-wing, Konrad Laimer could come in for Romano Schmid, while at the back Philipp Mwene is likely to be preferred at left-back to Alexander Prass, and Max Wober is likely to miss out, with Kevin Danso preferred.

4 2 3 1

The return of Cenk TOSUN

Vincenzo Montella is likely to make two changes to the side that beat the Czech Republic, with one being enforced and the other two tactical. Hakan Calhanoglu’s suspension is a big blow and requires some tweaking of the team, with Arda Guler moving central in his absence, and Baris Yilmaz moved from striker to left-wing, allowing Cenk Tosun to come into the side. In the holding midfield role, Salih Ozcan drops to the bench with Kaan Ayhan preferred, while Abdulkerim Bardakci will come in at centre-back, with Samet Akaydin benched.

Austria vs Turkey Team Stats

Goals look highly likely here

Austria have seen over 2.5 goals land in both of their last two group stage games, with four goals being scored in their 3-1 win over Poland, and five in the 3-2 victory over the Netherlands. Austria have therefore cleared the over 2.5 goal line twice without needing their opponents to contribute. Ralf Rangnick’s side have conceded in all three group games and face a Turkey side who have done the same. Over 2.5 goals landed in all three Turkey games in Group F, beating Georgia 3-1, losing 3-0 to Portugal and getting a 2-1 win over the Czech Republic. Goals therefore look likely at both ends here, so backing over 2.5 goals to land at 1.85 is extremely good value.

Mert Gunok likely to be busy between the sticks

Turkey’s goalkeeper has made at least three saves in two of their three group games, making three against Georgia and five against Czech Republic, who were down to 10 men for most of the game. The only game in which Gunok did not make three saves was when facing Portugal, who scored with two of their three shots on target and barely got out of second gear in a very comfortable win. Austria meanwhile have forced three or more saves in all three group games, forcing six against Poland, and having three shots on target against France, nine when taking on Poland and five against the Netherlands. Backing Turkey’s goalkeeper to make at least three saves here looks well worth backing at 1.67.

Austria vs Turkey Shots and Shots on Target Stats

Marcel Sabitzer a great choice for a shot on target

Marcel Sabitzer already has a goal to his name at the finals, and he has certainly been keen to shoot throughout, racking up nine shots through his three group stage appearances. The Borussia Dortmund man has had a shot on target in five of his last seven starts for Austria at the finals and during qualifying and hit five shots in the game against Poland and three against the Netherlands. In what is likely to be an open contest, backing Sabitzer to hit the target just once at 1.53 looks like a very solid choice.

02 07 2024 AUSTRIA betbuilder stats pack SHOOTING

Kenan Yildiz offers great value here

From just two starts at the finals, 19-year-old Kenan Yildiz has taken eight shots. The Juventus youngster is clearly unafraid to have a go, and he has hit the target with a strike in both of his starts so far. His average shot distance is 17.2 yards, and long shots may be a useful weapon against what is likely to be a well organised and tough to break down Austrian side. Yildiz has averaged 4.29 shots per 90 at the Euros yet can be backed at 2.10 to have two or more shots, or 1.20 to have a single strike. Both of those look like very viable options here.

Austria vs Turkey Goals and Assists Stats

Christoph Baumgartner the best pick here

Christoph Baumgartner has now either scored or assisted in six of his last seven international appearances for Austria including their pre-tournament friendlies. He did not start the final group game against the Netherlands, but still bagged an assist in just 29 minutes off the bench. He has had three shots on target in his two starts at this Euros, and also racked up at least two shots in five of his six starts during qualifying, so looks a very solid choice to score or assist here at 2.63.

02 07 2024 AUSTRIA betbuilder stats pack GOALSCORING

Arda Guler may be the best choice here

Turkey have spread the contributions to their five goals around the side, and with the only player to have more than one goal or assist not likely to start here, that makes picking a player for these markets tough. We do like the look of Real Madrid’s Arda Guler the most though. The talented forward has generated six shots for his team-mates directly from his passes in his two starts, and has had four shots, one of which was his beautiful curling strike against Georgia on matchday 1. When you have a player capable of a moment of magic like that, you can feel good taking a punt on them to score or assist at 2.88 in what could well be a high-scoring affair.

Austria Cards and Fouls Stats

Stefan Posch a great option to commit multiple fouls

Austrian right back Stefan Posch tops the foul charts for his nation at the Euros, having committed nine fouls already, an average of 3.0 per 90. He has committed two or more fouls in all three group stage games, but impressively has been booked only once, showing he knows how to toe the line, which could be crucial as he risks suspension with another card here. He is up against Baris Yilmaz, who has drawn two or more fouls in two of his three group stage games, and averages 2.33 fouls won per 90 at this Euros. Posch can be backed to commit two or more fouls at a very appealing price of 1.91.

02 07 2024 AUSTRIA betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

Ismail Yuksek offers great value to be fouled

Yuksek has started just one game at this Euros so far, but averages 3.64 fouls per 90, having been fouled three times in only 29 minutes against Portugal. He will be up against Baumgartner (1.82 fouls per 90) and Florian Grillitsch (0.53) here, so looks to have a great chance of being fouled at least once. Yuksek has won a foul in both of his games at this tournament and won two or more fouls in three of his four starts in qualifying for Turkey. He can be backed to be fouled once at 1.30, or twice or more at 2.50. The former is a very solid odds booster which seems likely to come in, and the latter looks to offer great value at odds-against.

Turkey Cards and Fouls Stats

Kaan Ayhan well worth considering to commit a foul

Galatasaray midfielder looks set to return to the starting lineup after missing out in the final group game against Czechia, having started the first two games of the tournament. Ayhan committed a foul in both of those starts, one against Georgia and two against Portugal, for an average of 1.50 per 90 for Turkey at the finals. He will be dealing with Christoph Baumgartner who has won 2.73 fouls per 90 at this Euros, winning at least one foul in all three group stage games, and winning an impressive four against Poland on matchday 2. With all that considered, backing Ayhan for a foul at 1.50 is a solid selection here.

02 07 2024 TURKEY betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

Florian Grillitsch an outside pick

Grillitsch may not appear the standout here in terms of the fouls drawn market however, his steep price of 1.73 to be fouled one or more times makes him an interesting option for a higher odds bet builder when you consider his potential matchups here. He will likely be lining up in midfield where he will be going up against Turkey’s midfield duo of Yuksek ( 1.82 Fouls p/90) and Ayhan ( 1.50 fouls p/90), two midfielders who certainly don’t shy away from a scuffle in the middle of the park. Combine that with the fact that Grillitsch was fouled in two of three group games, 1.73 for him to be fouled once seems great value.
