Benfica vs Club Brugge Bet Builder Stats Pack

Benfica vs Club Brugge Bet Builder Stats Pack Featured Image

Benfica won the first leg 2-0 in Belgium to put themselves into a strong position to advance to the quarter finals of the Champions League. They are short price favourites to prevail again in the 2nd leg. Scott Parker’s Club Brugge outfit must come out swinging and take some risks.

For this somewhat low-profile Champions League clash, I’ve covered all the stats from their Liga NOS and Belgian Pro League campaigns so far, including xG, goals, shots, corners, cards and fouls. Use the numbers alongside my Stats Pack Guide to get the best use and chances of a bet builder winner.

Predicted Lineups

Benfica are in good health ahead of this match. Their big loss was at the end of the transfer window where key man Enzo Fernandez departed to Chelsea for huge money. Chiquinho has taken his spot in the team but is carrying an injury so former Molde man Fredrik Aursnes will probably lineup alongside Florentino Luis. Wolves loanee Goncalo Guedes is another who is an injury doubt so Goncalo Ramos will almost certainly lead the line in attack.

Striker Ferran Jutgla was not fit enough to start the first leg, but he will be starting upfront in this fixture. Unfortunately, Danish star Andreas Skov Olsen is likely still out due to illness which is a major blow. Defender Jack Hendry is probably going to miss out due to a quadriceps injury which means Abakar Sylla is set to partner Mechele in central defence.

Team stats

Benfica average 2.52 goals per game and just 0.57 against. They also have impressive xG and xGA numbers. The one statistic that really stands out is just 1.65 SOT against per match. They have fired in an average of 17.30 shots per match themselves and regularly pepper the opposition goal.

Benfica average a whopping 7.96 corners in each fixture and concede just 3.22. Cards have been fairly high in their games at 1.96 for and 2.91 against. It is worth noting these are domestic statistics though. They get to beat up several awful teams in the Liga NOS. This is a different scenario in the Champions League.

Team Stats 29

Club Brugge average 1.68 goals per game and 1.25 against. These figures are very close to their xG and xGA numbers. They fire 14 shots per match and only 11 against. The Belgians have an impressive 5.40 SOT in each game which will certainly contribute towards their excellent goalscoring record.

It is noticeable the low number of corners that Club Brugge have conceded per match (3.64) They have obtained 5.71 corners per match themselves. Cards have been high in their fixtures with their opponents especially racking up the numbers (2.61). They have picked up 2.5 cards per game themselves.

Team Stats 30

Player shots and shots on target

Goncalo Ramos averages 4.15 shots per 90 mins with a decent 1.86 on target. Silva averages 3.16 shots per 90 mins but isn’t overly accurate. Joao Mario is the designated penalty taker and averages 2.26 shots per 90 mins. Both Grimaldo and Aursnes might try their luck at least once in this match as well.

2 32

Ferran Jutgla averages a massive 4.01 shots per 90 mins with nearly half on target. Midfielders Lang and Nielsen are less accurate but not too bad at 0.79 and 0.72 per 90 mins. Others to watch out for in the shots market are Vanaken and Buchanan who average 1.76 and 1.59 shots per 90 mins respectively.

2 33

Player goals and assists

Goncalo Ramos has 15 goals and is the top scorer. Joao Mario has 14 goals and is aided by being the penalty taker. Rafa Silva has 6 goals and 2 assists. The top assister is left back Grimaldo with 7 and Joao Mario has 5. David Neres is one to look out for with 4 goals and 5 assists.

3 32

Hans Vanaken has 8 goals and also 4 assists. Striker Ferran Jutgla has very similar numbers and Brugge will be boosted by having him from the start here. Nielsen has 7 goals and Noa Lang netted 5 times. Left back Meijer has four assists and is worth watching out for on that side.

3 33

Player passing

Benfica average 66% possession domestically but that figure drops to only 49% in the Champions League. Club Brugge average 47% of the ball in Europe. In the reverse fixture the Portuguese outfit registered 54% possession which should increase here. Florentino Luis, Nicolas Otamendi and Fredrik Aursnes are the most likely to rack up significant passes.

6 33

Benfica cards

Centre back Nicolas Otamendi leads Benfica for cards, going in the book a monstrous 10 times! He produces 0.90 fouls per 90 mins. Rafa Silva has 6 cards, whilst Aursnes and Joao Mario have racked up a good number too. Benfica are the sort of team not especially known for producing high numbers of fouls but could easily go into the book for unsportsmanlike conduct, dissent and also time wasting.

4 35

The obvious starting point upfront is with Ferran Jutgla who is fouled 1.45 times per 90 mins. He could cause Otamendi issues. Both wingers Buchanan and Lang might be dangerous, whilst in the middle of the park Nielsen gets fouled 1.40 times on average. Noa Lang vs Alexander Bah could be an interesting one on the left hand side of the Club Brugge attack.

Club Brugge cards

Abakar Sylla leads Club Brugge for cards on this list and also averages 1.56 fouls per 90 mins. Midfielder Onyedika and right back Odoi are worth watching for fouls and cards. Right winger Tajon Buchanan will probably press from time to time and give away at least one cheap foul.

4 36

Benfica draw a lot of fouls from their opponents. They are a strong technical side with plenty of agility and trickery. Attacking midfielder Rafa Silva dribbles a massive 5.50 times per 90 mins, and winger Joao Mario is another who has a high dribbling rate. Goncalo Ramos is set to start upfront and gets fouled on average nearly twice per 90 mins. He is a big matchup problem for Abakar Sylla.

Benfica vs Club Brugge

Benfica are a class above Brugge, and they showed that in the reverse leg.

They won 2-0, had 14 shots to Brugge’s 4, and 4 shots on target to the Belgian side’s 1.

Benfica are runaway leaders in the Portuguese leaue, 8 points above rivals Porto.

They’ve won their last 7 on the bounce since a 2-2 draw to Sporting.

They have been strong in the Champions League too, qualifying first in a group with both Juventus and PSG.

Brugge on the other hand are only 4th in the Belgian Pro League and 21 points off top spot.

On Friday, they got thrashed 3-0 on their travles to Oostende.

Football icon Joao Mario to score or assist
Arrow down

Joao Mario is looking to become the first Benfica player to score in 5 consecutive Champions League games.

He converted from the penalty spot in the first leg, and is likely to be on that responsibility today.

He’s managed 19 goal contributions (15 goals 4 assists) in just 22 appearances domestically.

Football icon Ferran Jutgla 2+ shots
Arrow down

Brugge will have to take risks and commit men forward.

One of those men will be Ferran Jutgla, and they welcome his return for the second leg from injury.

The Spanish striker has managed 8 goals in 25 appearances in the league, but his shooting stats catch my eye.

He averages 4.01 shots per 90 minutes, with 1.94 on target.

Football icon Over 3.5 cards
Arrow down

Frustrations are likely to mount in an all or nothing tie for Brugge.

They received 2 bookings in the first leg and I could see them sealing this selection on their own.

They average 2.25 cards in their direction in Belgium, while Benfica oppoonents average 2.92 cards.

Benfica aren’t innocent here either, and average 1.96 cards while Brugge opposition average 2.61 cards.

That means Benfica games average 4.87 cards, while Brugge games average 4.86.

The referee tonight Halil Umut Meler also averages a hefty 5.67 cards per game this season.
