Newcastle vs Liverpool Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview

Newcastle vs Liverpool Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview Featured Image

Newcastle and Liverpool have a long history of epic affairs in the Premier League. Those games have often gone the way of Liverpool, from epic 4-3 affairs in the 90s involving Stan Collymore and Robbie Fowler to 6-0 and 4-0 thumpings and last season’s double. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have become much of what Newcastle hope to be, challenging and competing with the elite with a team that embodies its fanbase and the longer the Reds can keep the Magpies at arm’s length, the better.

Yet Newcastle are ready to challenge. They humiliated Aston Villa on the opening day before defeat at Man City – no huge concerns there. Liverpool, meanwhile, picked up a decent point away at a re-energised Chelsea on the opening weekend before a 3-1 win against Bournemouth caked in controversy.

Can Liverpool continue their 13-match unbeaten run against Newcastle going or can Eddie Howe’s side take another step to proving they are now amongst the elite? The information below will best prepare to place a Newcastle vs Liverpool bet builder this Sunday.

Newcastle should go unchanged once more

Eddie Howe has a lot of faith in his team and that has shown with the same XI starting both league games to date. It’s unlikely he will make changes for the challenge of Liverpool with the defensive unit settled, Sandro Tonali and Alexander Isak having positive impacts and Anthony Gordon no doubt chomping at the bit to get one over his childhood rivals.

Endo-f unchanged line-ups for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp has had to make do with what is available to him and that has led to a bold selection, employing Cody Gakpo in his midfield and Alexis Mac Allister at the base. The expectation is that 30-year-old Wataru Endo will replace Gakpo for this one, giving the side more steel in midfield against one of the finest in the division. Otherwise, expect the Reds to be unchanged.

Newcastle love the aggro

Newcastle knew that they would have to fight the world to get recognition for their achievements amid the backdrop of Saudi investment and they’ve taken that fight to the pitch. The Magpies were amongst the top of the division for fouls both committed and drawn last term and that has continued so far this season, picking up more bookings per 90 than any team in the league (4.5) but also being the most fouled side (14.5).

Liverpool attacking with bluster

Liverpool may not have finished where they wanted to last season but they remained one of the most impressive attacking outfits in the league, especially towards the end of the season when they almost squeezed past this weekend’s opponent into the top four. The Reds have started this season in a similar vein, mustering the third most shots of any team in the league and also registering the third most corners per 90 – perhaps a headed goal could be on the cards.

We must talk about Bruno

Three shots. One shot on target. Two yellow cards. Four fouls were committed. Seven fouls drawn.

Bruno Guimaraes is everywhere in the Newcastle midfield, a ball manipulator, creator, aggressor, and wind-up merchant. If the Magpies stand a chance of a result on Sunday, they will need their Brazilian maestro on his game and he could prove a worthy inclusion in your Newcastle vs Liverpool bet builder, available at 3.10 to have a shot on target, 1.36 to have a shot and 1.91 to commit two or more fouls.

Isak the main man

The challenge for Isak was proving he could be the main man for Newcastle after a season challenging Callum Wilson for the number nine role. He had a wonderful opening day, scoring twice in the 5-1 thumping of Aston Villa, managing three shots on target. He will be hoping to make the most of an indifferent Liverpool defence that have conceded in both matches so far this term – he’s available at 2.40to score anytime.

No tripping up Magpies right back

Kieran Trippier has always been the fourth member of the England right back clan to most fans but Gareth Southgate and Eddie Howe adore him and the ex-Spurs and Atletico Madrid man shows few signs of letting up. He has averaged around 79 passes per 90 minutes this season and is available at evens to make 70 or more on Sunday afternoon. He has also taken all of Newcastle’s corners and is available to assist a goal at 3.50.

Salah continues to thrive

There is a lot of noise around Mohamed Salah leaving Liverpool to move to Saudi Arabia. It hasn’t affected his performances – aside from a penalty kick failure. He has managed an impressive seven shots at goal in his first two appearances of the season with two of those on target. The Egyptian is still the main man and you can back him to have three or more shots at 1.57 in your Newcastle vs Liverpool bet builder.

Diaz looking to take the crown from the king

If Salah does leave, the Reds will hope Luis Diaz is the ready-made replacement. He’s already matching what Salah is producing this season with seven shots (two or more shots at 1.44) and two shots on target (one shot on target at 1.67) and he’s even bettering Salah’s goal tally, top scoring in the early stages with two. He’s also proving a nuisance, committing four fouls and drawing three of his own.

Virgil Van Dijk – another Liverpool attacking hope?

It’s perhaps unclear how much of Van Dijk’s form in front of goal lately has come as a result of playing opposition under new management, making a lot of changes and therefore being a little looser defensively from set-pieces than Newcastle are likely to be. Still, with the delivery from Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold normally impressive, there feels like little reason Van Dijk can’t add to the four shots he has taken already this term – you can back him at 1.53 to have a single shot.

Bruno Guimaraes vs Alexis Mac Allister

Guimaraes vs Mac Allister. Brazil vs Argentina. Not-quite-so-defensive-midfielder vs not-quite-so-defensive-midfielder.

Both of these players will be tasked with getting on the ball and ensuring things tick for their respective teams but both like to spread their wings, bring the ball forward and also do the ugly stuff, which should see them come into combat with each other. Guimaraes has committed four fouls and drawn seven to date while Mac Allister has committed three fouls and drawn four – a battle to watch as far as your Newcastle vs Liverpool bet builder is concerned.

Kieran Trippier vs Luis Diaz

An old-school English full-back that has played for Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone vs an excitable, powerful South American with a mean streak. This could be a fun match-up. Trippier won’t want to find himself too isolated against Diaz and will do what needs to be done – he’s already committed two fouls this season while Diaz has been fouled three times. Meanwhile, much of what Newcastle do well starts with Trippier as the outball – Diaz, who has committed four fouls, will be out to stop that happening down his side.

Anthony Gordon vs. Ibrahima Konate

With Trent Alexander-Arnold drifting inside or staying high up the pitch, Anthony Gordon will likely be tasked with getting at Ibrahima Konate on the break and it’s a fascinating match-up. The giant French centre-half has committed and drawn two fouls, aggressive in his play but also willing to step out, and much of that can happen towards the right-hand side with his right back vacating the space. Gordon is the most involved player in the league when it comes to fouls – he has been fouled an impressive nine times in 1.4 90s and has also committed five fouls himself.
