Birmingham City vs QPR Stats Pack, Bet Builder Tips and Predictions

BMB Stats Pack Website Article 1 6 1 1

Birmingham City will be looking to return to winning ways when they host Queens Park Rangers at St Andrew’s on Friday night in front of new owner Tom Wagner.  John Eustace’s side enjoyed an unbeaten start but have succumbed to back-to-back defeats since returning from the international break, finding themselves on the wrong end of tight margin affairs against Watford and Preston North End.

Gareth Ainsworth loves to spoil a party and he hopes to do so this weekend. His side have so far beaten Cardiff City and basement outfit Middlesbrough but succumbed to stronger opposition in Watford, Ipswich Town, Southampton and Sunderland to leave them in a lower mid-table position.

Both managers are still in the position of proving they are the right men to lead their respective clubs and victory on Friday night would do plenty to make the narrative a more positive one. Calling who wins is difficult but we can help you build a winning Birmingham vs QPR bet builder – read on to find out which selections you should include and why.

Birmingham VS QPR PREDICTED LINEUPS

Buchanan to return for Blues

John Eustace should be able to call upon a number of key players ahead of this one. Lee Buchanan should slot straight back in at left-back having missed the game on Tuesday through suspension. Lukas Jutkiewicz and Siriki Dembele are also available again after suspension and injury, though they will likely make do with a spot on the bench. That means Keshi Anderson, Koji Miyoshi and Jay Stansfield are likely to keep their spots in the XI.

Dykes should return for QPR

Lyndon Dykes has had a frustrating start to the season with injury but has played half an hour in each of QPR’s last two outings and is set to return to the XI on Friday. The question is whether it’s Sinclair Armstrong or Chris Willock who drop out, the former is young but raw and the latter excellent but injury-prone.

Birmingham VS QPR TEAM STATS

Blues a mixed bag

Birmingham City have been hit and miss as far as the numbers go, they can be excellent in transition but with mixed results in the final third. They have received and drawn at least two yellow cards from opponents in four of their seven league matches. They have given away five or more corners on five occasions.

QPR blunt in front of goal

The biggest challenge for Gareth Ainsworth is finding a consistent avenue of attack – his team has managed over 1 xG just once all season in the league. In the meantime, they have conceded 1.3 xG or more in five of their seven league matches while conceding eight or more shots on target on three occasions. Corners could be an avenue to look at – QPR have conceded four or more corners in every game and six or more in five. They have also received two or more bookings in six of their seven league games.

Birmingham VS QPR SHOTS AND SHOTS ON TARGET stats

Blues attack getting shots off

Blues’ attack is heavily reliant on the front four creating opportunities for one another. Jay Stansfield has managed over four shots per 90 minutes and 1.63 shots on target over his four appearances. Koji Miyoshi and Scott Hogan are also getting opportunities, mustering over two shots per game apiece.

Wing back Smyth priced high

Queens Park Rangers are rank outsiders for this game, perhaps unsurprising given the underlying numbers. Still, while Ilias Chair (over two shots per 90) and Sinclair Armstrong (1.92) are getting plenty of shots away, there could be value in right wing back Paul Smyth having a pop at goal. He’s given plenty of licence to get forward.

Birmingham VS QPR GOALS AND ASSISTS stats

Super Jay the man for Blues

Jay Stansfield has had a near-perfect start to life at Birmingham City, arriving to little fanfare before plundering three goals in his first four matches, all of which have been impressive finishes. Notably, his odds are slightly shorter than Scott Hogan, who can be backed at 3.1 – he has scored one goal from 2.2 xG from open play.

9 21 2023 BIRMINGHAM CITY betbuilder stats pack GOALSCORING

Good odds for a QPR goalscorer

QPR aren’t much of an attacking threat most of the time but with the Blues conceding two in each of their last two games, there could be value in backing a QPR goalscorer. That includes two surprise candidates – left back Kenneth Paal is their joint top scorer with two goals and can be backed at 14/1 while Osman Kakay has 0.8 expected goals – the centre half is available at a whopping 30/1 to score anytime despite only Sinclair Armstrong (7/2) having compiled a better open play xG.

Birmingham CARDS AND FOULS stats

Fouls up high, cards at the back

Blues concede a lot of fouls high up the pitch as part of their aggressive press. Jay Stansfield has committed over 2.5 per 90, Ivan Sunjic and Juninho Bacuna are at two fouls per game while Scott Hogan and Koji Miyoshi are around 1.5 – Blues press as a unit and the aim is to stop the opposition from getting out whatever the cost. When they do get out, the Blues are liable to poor challenges – Buchanan has received four yellow cards and a red this season while midfield duo Sunjic and Krystian Bielik have five yellow cards combined.

Super-Smyth to cause problems

Paul Smyth should enjoy himself based on the above. If and when he gets out, the man who was briefly linked with a move to Birmingham City has been fouled 2.07 times per 90 – if QPR can get him in position, he may cause problems for Buchanan. Sam Field is fouled around 1.5 times per 90 and could be the aim for Blues out of possession – Stansfield and Sunjic will be on the front foot ready to snap at the Midlands-born midfielder.

QPR CARDS AND FOULS stats

QPR not afraid to commit a tackle

QPR have committed at least 11 fouls in all of their league matches this season so it’s unsurprising a large number of players have committed a lot of fouls. The midfield haven’t helped – Jack Colback and Andre Dozzell are committing over two fouls per 90 minutes. Meanwhile, the right-hand side is an issue with Paul Smyth and Osman Kakay around the 1.5 fouls per 90 range.

Dembele looks decent to be fouled

That latter note is most pertinent here with Siriki Dembele or Keshi Anderson likely to start on the left-hand side. The former is rapid, sharp and silky while the latter is intelligent, brawny and skillful. Dembele has been fouled almost three times per 90 minutes played while Anderson is at 1.67 and often the man tasked with leading the Blues attack after receiving play from Buchanan. Elsewhere, Cody Drameh, Jay Stansfield and Koji Miyoshi are all fouled more than once per 90.
