Brighton vs Newcastle Stats And Bet Builder Tips Preview

Brighton vs Newcastle Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview Featured Image

Both teams suffered a setback last week and will be desperate to rebound with a victory. Brighton looked imperious in their first two games but surprisingly lost 3-1 at home to West Ham United where some clever tactics by David Moyes exposed them.

Newcastle looked set to beat 10-man Liverpool, but a shocking late turnaround saw Darwin Nunez take the points back to Merseyside. There is plenty on the line at the Amex Stadium for what should be an enthralling game.

We have dug into the data ahead of the Saturday evening kick-off with some Brighton vs Newcastle bet builder tips provided for your consideration.

Brighton vs Newcastle Predicted lineups

Joao Pedro pushing for a recall

Jason Steele could return for Brighton in between the sticks and there is strong goalkeeping competition for places with Bart Verbruggen added into the squad this summer. Julio Enciso is set for a long spell on the sidelines for the Seagulls due to injury and Tariq Lamptey has a knee problem. Joao Pedro is a candidate to come back into the XI at the expense of Evan Ferguson or Danny Welbeck.

Brighton Predicted Lineup 3 4 2 1 7 1

Botman blow for the Magpies

Defender Sven Botman is a massive injury doubt for Newcastle and will likely be replaced by Dan Burn in central defence, therefore Matt Targett could consequently start at left back. Joelinton is another big doubt in midfield with Sean Longstaff set to lineup in the centre of midfield with Bruno Guimares and Sandro Tonali.

Brighton vs Newcastle team stats

Seagulls have been serial shooters

Brighton have been an xG machine for several years now and they already lead the Premier League in this department (8.90). They have netted nine times and clearly possess plenty of offensive firepower. Newcastle did score five vs Villa on matchday one but have since struggled vs Man City and Liverpool.

Brighton have fired off ridiculous numbers of shots so far this season, 68 in total with 30 on target. They can be relied upon to test the keeper. Roberto De Zerbi’s men have had 67% of the ball which is no surprise as he is known for his possession-based approach.

Newcastle to adopt counter-attacking strategy?

Newcastle have averaged 50.7% possession but have played against teams like Man City and Liverpool. They are probably more likely to sit back against Albion though and look to counter-attack. United have the fifth-best xGA in the Premier League so far (3.57) but are yet to keep a clean sheet. Despite playing against ten men for the majority of the game last weekend, Newcastle lost the corner count 9-5.

Brighton vs Newcastle players to watch

March to keep springing in the shots

Solly March has been in brilliant form to start off the season. He’s bagged three goals in three games and is averaging 3.3 shots per game. He immediately stands out as a player to watch and can be backed at 1.33 for two or more shots which looks like a great addition to any Brighton bet builder. For those wanting even more value, March is as big as 4.20 to score anytime.

Dunking and passing

Lewis Dunk averages a ridiculous 108 passes per 90 minutes and can be backed at 1.53 for 90 or more passes. He should last the full match and with Brighton often dominating the ball this looks like a decent option. It is early days, but the Seagulls are already averaging 67% of the ball this season and Dunk is at the heart of the action in building from the back. With more added time this year the chances are he can eclipse the 90 passes mark.

Gross-ly underrated for a shot

Pascal Gross averages 2.7 shots per game this season and is one to watch. He is currently operating from the midfield area, which perhaps makes him more dangerous. Gross averaged over one shot per game last season but was often used at right back where he had less chance to try his luck. He is generously priced at 1.36 for one or more shots which looks like a great addition to any Brighton vs Newcastle bet builder.

Almiron to keep firing

Miguel Almiron is quite a streaky player and had a great spell of form mid-way through last season for Newcastle. He has worked his way back into the starting XI and is clearly hungry to score goals. Almiron averages exactly three shots per game so far this season and only a world class save from Allison denied him a great goal last week. He is 1.33 to have two or more shots and 2.1 for three or more. Either option is attractive to add to a Newcastle bet builder.

Trippier the heartbeat of the team

This is a slightly risky suggestion but Kieran Trippier is 2.20 to have 70 or more passes for the visitors. He averages 75 passes per match and will be on all of their set pieces, which can really add up over the course of 90 minutes and beyond. The reason Kieran Trippier is so big in this market is because Brighton are expected to dominate possession. But that may not necessarily limit the opportunities that the visitors create.

Brighton vs Newcastle matchups to watch

Anthony Gordon vs James Milner

A former Everton player against a former Liverpool man so this should get spicy! Gordon can be a bit of a hothead sometimes but crucially he looks really motivated right now. He played really well vs Liverpool and has been fouled on average 3.3 times per match this season. Milner is priced 1.17 for at least one foul for good reason and a more appealing play might be for him to have two or more at 1.91.

Joao Pedro vs Bruno Guimarães

Guimaraes is Newcastle’s dirtiest player this season averaging 2.70 fouls per game. He will happily take one for the team if needed. He could engage in several different battles here but if Joao Pedro is recalled to the Brighton team, then this could be the matchup to watch. The Brazilian is quite an elusive player, full of tricks and a bit of a foul magnet. Bruno is 1.22 to have one or more fouls which actually looks generous all things considered.

Solly March vs Matt Targett

March has been in such great form to start the season that Newcastle simply must keep a lid on him. Dan Burn, against his former club, would normally be at left back but will likely slot in at centre back. Matt Targett should come in on the left hand side, and this could be a tough task for him considering he is more of a backup. Targett is 1.36 to produce one foul or more which is decent material for any Newcastle bet builder.

Averages 3.3 shots per game this season and has been in great form.

Football icon Miguel Almiron 2+ shots

Not always reliable to hit the target but he has been firing plenty of shots this season at an average of two per game. He is not afraid to try a speculative effort.

Football icon Pascal Gross 1+ shots

Averaged over one shot per game last season and is already firing 2.7 efforts per 90 mins at the start of this one.

Football icon Brighton 6+ shots on target

They are a shooting machine with 68 efforts and 30 on target. Newcastle might sit back and invite pressure so Brighton are very capable of hitting the target half a dozen times.
