For the 32nd time, a Scottish domestic cup final will be contested by the Old Firm rivals, Celtic and Rangers.

Their first meeting in a Scottish Cup final came all the way back in 1894, and since then there have been 16 head-to-head finals, with Celtic having won eight, Rangers seven, and one (in 1909) was abandoned and never replayed.

This is their first meeting in the final since 2002, and it comes at a good time for newly-crowned champions Celtic who are in fine form and are facing a Rangers side missing three of their first-choice defenders.

Regardless, this fixture rarely disappoints and we should expect a frantic, all-action cup final. Old Firm games always tend to be good for a bet too, so if you fancy getting involved and crafting a Celtic vs Rangers bet builder, we’ve laid out all the best picks in the most popular markets in the article below.

Celtic vs Rangers Predicted Lineups

No reason to change for injury-free Celtic

With no injuries or suspensions to contend with, Brendan Rodgers is likely to turn to the same starting XI that played in the Old Firm clash at Celtic Park earlier this month. That means a final professional start for Joe Hart in goal, with Alistair Johnston, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Liam Scales and Greg Taylor at the back, the usual midfield three of Matt O’Riley, captain Callum McGregor and Reo Hatate and James Forrest, Kyogo Furuhashi and Daizen Maeda across the front three.

Rangers struggling at the back

With Connor Goldson, Leon Balogun, Borna Barisic and John Souttar all injured, we expect Robbie Fraser, Ben Davies and Leon King to join James Tavernier in the backline. Mohamed Diomande and Nicolas Raskin are likely to be the holding midfield pair in behind Fabio Silva, Todd Cantwell and Ross McCausland. Danilo, Tom Lawrence and Rabbi Matondo are all injured, meaning Philippe Clement’s attacking options are extremely limited. Cyriel Dessers will complete the lineup as a lone striker.

Celtic vs rANGERS Team Stats

Celtic to break Rangers hearts again

The 47th-minute red card for John Lundstram did impact the last clash between these two sides, but Celtic dominated the game even before Rangers found themselves a man down. A fully-fit Celtic squad going up against a seriously depleted backline is not an ideal scenario for a Rangers side who have won just one of their last 11 clashes with their Old Firm rivals. Celtic have won nine of their last 11 games in all competitions, drawing just twice as six straight league victories carried them to another league title. It is hard to see anything other than a Celtic victory here, and with Rangers winning just four of their last nine games, we feel confident backing Celtic to win at 1.83.

Team Stats 28

Shaky defence means saves worth considering

Rangers’ goalkeeper has been forced into three or more saves in nine of their last 14 games in all competitions. Considering the dominance expected from the Old Firm sides in the Scottish Premiership this is an extremely poor return, and hints at the defensive issues plaguing Philippe Clement’s men. The man between the sticks for Rangers has made at least three saves in each of their four clashes with Celtic this season, making four and five saves in their last two meetings. You can back the Rangers keeper to make three or more saves at 1.40, but it may also be worth considering four or more saves at 2.0 considering the tallies across the last two Old Firm clashes.

Celtic vs Rangers Shots and Shots on Target Stats

James Forrest offers nice value here

Forrest has claimed the right-wing spot for Celtic in recent weeks and has repaid the faith of Brendan Rodgers with three goals and an assist in his last four starts. Forrest finished with 2.03 shots on target per 90 in the Premiership, the most of any Celtic player (albeit on limited game-time), and he has now had a shot on target in five of his last seven games for the club, despite starting just four of these seven. He is also starting on the right, meaning he will be up against the heavily-weakened left-hand side of the Rangers defence, making him an even more attractive option at 1.57 to have a shot on target here.

2 34

Cyriel Dessers by far the best option for Rangers

Since the last international break, Rangers striker Dessers has featured in nine Premiership games, notching a shot on target in seven of these. His last two Rangers games have seen him take nine shots, five of which were on target, and Dessers should be feeling confident, having scored or assisted in three straight games. His 1.90 shots on target per 90 were the most of any Rangers player in the Premiership this season, and he can be backed to have a shot on target here at 1.57.

2 35

Celtic vs Rangers Goals and Assists Stats

Matt O’Riley in superb form

Denmark international midfielder O’Riley has been sublime for Celtic since the last international break, racking up seven goals and three assists in just eight Premiership games, including a goal in both Old Firm games during this spell. Despite this impressive form, he can be backed to score or assist at 2.50 and looks by far the best option of any player in this market. Having scored in four straight games heading into this one, it may well be worth looking at O’Riley as an anytime goalscorer, where he can be backed at 3.50 instead.

3 27

Todd Cantwell offers potential here

Only James Tavernier and Cyriel Dessers have more goals and assists in the Premiership for Rangers than Todd Cantwell this season, bagging seven goals and five assists. He has scored or assisted in eight of his last 16 starts and finished the season strongly with two goals and an assist in his last two games. Cantwell has had a shot on target in 12 of these 16 starts, and at 3.3 offers much better value than other Rangers attacking options in this market.

3 28

Celtic Cards and Fouls Stats

Callum McGregor the best option for Celtic fouls

Very few options are worth backing in the fouls market when it comes to Celtic players, but one which is worth a look would be Callum McGregor to commit two or more fouls at 1.91. The Celtic captain committed exactly one foul per 90 in the Premiership this season, but these numbers sharply spiked in games against Rangers, with McGregor committing three and six fouls in his last two Old Firm starts. He has also committed two or more fouls in four straight Premiership games, and is up against Todd Cantwell and Mohamed Diomande, who drew 2.48 and 1.63 fouls per 90 in the league, the first and second-most of any Rangers players this season.

4 27

Relatively few options offer good value in the fouls won markets here, but we like the look of Cyriel Dessers to be fouled once or more at 1.44. The Nigeria international has been fouled at least once in each of the four Old Firm clashes this season and was fouled 0.79 times per 90 in the Premiership. His matchups look strong too, up against Cameron Carter-Vickers, who has committed a foul in six of his last 10 starts, and Liam Scales, who has committed a foul in five of his last six. The pair have committed five fouls between them in the last two Old Firm games, and there is every chance Dessers can win another here.

Rangers Cards and Fouls Stats

Mohamed Diomande a standout for fouls

January signing Mohamed Diomande has barely missed a game for Rangers since his move from Danish side Nordsjaelland. The Ivorian midfielder has also been right at the top of the Rangers foul charts since his arrival, committing 1.63 per 90 in the Premiership, the second-most amongst likely starters. Diomande has committed two or more fouls in seven of his last 10 Rangers games, including three and four in his two Old Firm appearances to date. He will be up against Reo Hatate and Callum McGregor, who both finished in Celtic’s top five for fouls won per 90 in the league, at 1.74 and 0.85 respectively, so backing him to commit two or more fouls at 1.53 looks a tempting prospect.

4 28

Unsurprisingly for a centre-back, Carter-Vickers finished the campaign with some of the lowest fouls won per 90 numbers of any Celtic player, being fouled just 0.59 times per 90 in the Premiership. However, the American defender has been fouled in three of his last six Celtic starts, including both of the most recent Old Firm clashes. Up against Cyriel Dessers, who ranked third for fouls per 90 in the league amongst Rangers players, at 1.42, and with little value offered by any other player in green and white in this market, backing Carter-Vickers to be fouled at 1.83 could pay dividends.
