Lens vs Arsenal

Calendar 3rd October

Football icon Odegaard 1+ Shot on Target
Arrow down

Lens look awful. There’s no other way of saying that…

Sure they’ve won their last two league games against mid-table sides, but it’s nothing to shout about.

They’ve now got just seven points from seven games, which is miles of the pace needed to have a good run in the Champions League.

Arsenal should dominate this one, even away from home. They should have plenty of chances and I expect one or two of them to fall to Odegaard.

He’s managed more shots on target this season than any other Arsenal player. Eight in total, and an average of 1.16 per game.

He got three shots on target and a goal against PSV in Arsenal’s opening Champions League game. And quite frankly a similar run isn’t out of the question here.

The fact he’s Arsenal’s go-to free kick and penalty taker just adds to the narrative here.

And at odds of 1.67 for 1 shot on target, it’s just too good to ignore.

Football icon Machado 2+ Fouls
Arrow down

As mentioned, Lens will spend a lot of time in their own half against a quality Arsenal side firing on all cylinders.

One man who will be extremely busy is Lens defender Deiver Machado.

He’s committed more fouls than any other players in Ligue 1 this season. He’s racked up 17 fouls from seven games which averages to an incredible 3.33 fouls per 90.

He’s also picked up at least two fouls in four out of the five league games where he’s played more than 45 minutes.

With the likes of Bukayo Saka and Eddie Nketiah in Arsenal’s side who are some of the most fouled players in the Premier League, and the fact the Gunners should dominate this one, I can’t see Machado getting out of it with less than 2 fouls to his name.

Football icon 2+ Lens Cards
Arrow down

The team with the most cards in Ligue 1? You guessed it, Lens.

The French side finished second last season, just one point behind PSG. But are now just one point off the relegation spot after seven league games.

And it’s clear that this frustration is coming out on the pitch.

They’ve already picked up 19 yellows and a red card in those first seven games. That means they are averaging 2.85 cards per game.
They’ve picked up at least two cards in every single game this season bar one.

The fact they picked up five cards against a struggling Seville side in their Champions League opener, probably says all you need to know.

Football icon 4+ Arsenal Corners
Arrow down

Arsenal are completely dominant when it comes to corners.

They’re averaging 9.14 of them per game, more than any other team in the Premier League by a hefty margin.

In fact, they’ve picked up 6 or more corners in every single one of their league games this season.

So backing 4+ against Lens seems an obvious pick especially when you consider that they managed four or more corners in 33 out of 38 of their Premier League games last season.

They also picked up four or more corners in every one of their Europa League games as well.

As mentioned above, Arsenal should dominate this game from start to finish and I reckon they’ll smash this selection by some margin.
