Looking to make the most of the value on offer in the summer’s Club World Cup? Then our experts have put together a Club World Cup Group D Preview to help you navigate the markets.
No Doubt full focus will be on Chelsea heading into Group D of the Club World Cup this summer. The Blues ended their season on a high, but this is one of the few groups that looks to contain a non-European challenger. Flamengo arrive at the Club World Cup in great form, and will no doubt fancy their chances against the best sides in Europe.
LAFC and Esperance De Tunis look set to perform supporting roles to the main event between the top two here, but do Chelsea have enough in the tank to keep Flamengo at bay?
You’ll find everything you need for your Group D Bets right here, including our very own best bet. If you want insight into other groups at the tournament, then make sure to check out our Club World Cup Predictions Page.
Club World Cup Group D Preview
Chelsea
Chelsea arrive at the Club World Cup in strong form, qualifying via their 2020/21 Champions League triumph. Under Enzo Maresca, the Blues finished fourth in the Premier League and lifted the UEFA Conference League, beating Real Betis 4–1 in the final. With a 61.4% win rate across all competitions this season, Chelsea have shown they’re heading in the right direction.
All eyes will be on Cole Palmer, a standout performer across the campaign with 15 goals and 11 assists in all competitions. Chelsea enter Group D as one of the tournament’s most dangerous sides, seeking to utilise their momentum from a positive end to the season, and take advantage of their squad depth
Flamengo
Flamengo head into the Club World Cup in excellent shape, sitting top of the Brazilian Serie A and looking every bit like a side ready to compete on the global stage. They’ve won seven of their opening 11 league matches, averaging 2.18 goals per game while conceding just 0.36 in return.
While 2024 brought a Brazilian Cup for Flamengo, fans were left frustrated after falling short in the Copa Libertadores quarter-finals and finishing third in the league. It was a season of domestic pride but missed chances — something this group will be eager to put right on the world stage. Giorgian de Arrascaeta is the player to keep tabs on, with nine goals and four assists in just nine league starts, operating in an advanced midfield role.
Esperance de Tunis
Fresh off a historic domestic treble – lifting the Tunisian Ligue 1, Tunisian Cup, and Super Cup – Esperance arrive in top form and full of belief. The Blood and Golds last won the CAF Champions League back in 2019, but an appearance in the final last year heavily boosted their coefficient, meaning they qualified to the Club World Cup as the best-ranked eligible team from Africa.
This season, they’ve played 39 matches across all competitions, winning 25 and scoring 83 goals. Their defence has also impressed, conceding just 0.69 goals per game on average. Youcef Belaili registered 19 goals and four assists in his debut season at the Tunisian club, and is a player to watch on the left wing.
Los Angeles FC
After beating Club America in a playoff match, LAFC secured their spot at the Club World Cup, after Club Leon were excluded for their multi-ownership with Pachuca. Denis Bouanga was the man of the match in that game, popping up with an assist in the 89th minute, before then scoring the winner in extra-time. The Gabon international netted 28 goals in all competitions in 2024, and has seven goals from 13 league starts this season.
The Falcons have quickly become a major force in North American football, winning the 2022 MLS Cup, the 2024 Open Cup, and reaching two CONCACAF Champions League finals. Head coach Steve Cherundolo is set to step down at the end of the season, so will look to end his tenure on a high.

FIFA Club World Cup
Chelsea arrive with all the European pedigree, but Flamengo look like real value to top this group. The Brazilian side are in electric domestic form — top of the Brazilian Serie A, having only failed to score in 16% of matches this year. While the Blues will view this as a postseason tournament after a long and draining campaign, the Brazilians are midway through their season, so will surely be more fresh and determined in their approach.
Flamengo’s cohesion and knockout pedigree in high-pressure South American football could give them the edge in this short-format group. Esperance and LAFC have their strengths, but it’s hard to see them matching Flamengo’s firepower. At 3.3, Flamengo to win Group D is a price that stands out.
