Coventry City vs Huddersfield Town Stats Pack, Bet Builder Tips and Predictions

BMB Stats Pack Website Article 3 2 1 1

The Darren Moore era at Huddersfield Town starts with a tricky trip to last season’s defeated Championship play-off finalists Coventry City.

Moore has taken the reins following the departure of legendary EFL gaffer Neil Warnock, who didn’t appear too pleased with the decision. Despite reservations about the playing squad and budget, the Terriers have turned things around to secure seven points from their last three.

Coventry have seen huge change this summer with Gustavo Hamer, Viktor Gyokeres and a number of loanees leaving the club, acting as the catalyst for change. Their only victory came against Middlesbrough before a run of draws ended with defeat against a reinvigorated Cardiff City.

This is a fascinating clash between two ambitious clubs enduring a lot of change. We’ve broken down the numbers so you can create a Coventry vs Huddersfield bet builder and enhance your enjoyment of the action on Monday night.

COVENTRY VS HUDDERSFIELD PREDICTED LINEUPS

Forced change at the back for Cov

Coventry have struggled to find some consistency this term and that was further hampered by an injury to young right-wing-back Milan Van Ewijk. With Ben Sheaf also unavailable, there are two possibilities. Tatsuhiro Sakamoto could enter the fray, as he did against Cardiff City, with Josh Eccles switching to right-wing-back. Or Joel Latibeaudiere could move to right-wing-back with Liam Kitching or Bobby Thomas entering the starting XI.

Little need for Moore to change a performing team

New managers like to put their own stamp on things but Darren Moore is comfortable enough in his own skin to not worry about that. It means that the shape and back four should remain unchanged while injuries to Jonathan Hogg and Danny Ward mean experience can’t be drafted in. David Kasumu should remain part of the midfield three though there could be a start Delano Burgzorg after he replaced youngster Kian Harratt at half-time on Wednesday.

COVENTRY VS HUDDERSFIELD TEAM STATS

Cov hit and miss but defending well

Putting your finger on exactly where Coventry are going wrong is difficult. They are defensively sound, in the top six for xGA, and conceded less than four shots on target per game despite conceding 14 or more shots in 5 of 7 games. They are okay going forward too, scoring in all but one match and managing five or more shots on target in four of their seven league games. There are a lot of corners in Coventry matches with five or more for either side in five league matches while cards are a feature too – they’ve picked up 11 cards in their last three matches while drawing two or more in six matches.

Terriers not living up to the name

A terrier in football terms is somebody who gets stuck into the opposition but Huddersfield don’t appear to have too many of them, only picking up two yellow cards in three of their league matches and committing ten or fewer fouls in their five league games. They are one of the least fouled teams in the division and have drawn two or more cards on just two occasions. They are one of the poorer sides defensively (fourth highest xGA) and they are conceding an average of around five shots on target per 90 minutes. Corners could be an avenue for your bet builder – Huddersfield have managed five or more in six of their seven league games.

COVENTRY VS HUDDERSFIELD SHOTS AND SHOTS ON Target stats

Palmer finding his feet

Likely to come off the bench, Kasey Palmer is a mercurial attacking midfielder but he’s finding his feet the longer the season goes on, managing ten shots in his 4.8 90’s this term. He has managed three or more shots in three of his five league starts and a shot on target in each of his last three. Elsewhere, Kyle McFadzean has had a shot in four of his seven league matches having averaged a shot every other game last season.

Huddersfield have a number of threats

Josh Koroma has often had spells where he’s looked a potential world-beater and he’s having one of those again recently, a consistent threat to the opposition goal. He has managed 21 shots this term with nine of those being on target. He has had two or more shots in every game he has started, three or more shots in five of those six, a shot on target in his last five, and two or more in his last three. Elsewhere, Jack Rudoni has mustered 13 shots, including two shots in his last six starts, while centre-backs Matty Pearson and Michal Helik are at eight and six shots – set-piece threats.

COVENTRY VS HUDDERSFIELD GOALS AND ASSISTS stats

Matty a God-den at present

Matty Godden has long appeared to be the “can be trusted but will need moving on at some point” strike for Coventry City. That ought to have come this summer with the big-money purchases of Ellis Simms and Haji Wright yet he’s outperforming both, scoring five goals from a whopping 4.3 xG – and he missed a penalty too. While others find their feet, Godden is the man and available at 9/5 to score anytime.

Sorba Thomas returning with a bang

As noted above, Matty Pearson and Michal Helik are having a high number of shots and it’s little surprise when you consider that Sorba Thomas is the man delivering the bullets. Quite why he was let go in January to join Blackburn Rovers remains mysterious because his quality is clear for all to see – he has a goal and two assists this term and is 10/3 to add to that.

Coventry CARDS AND FOULS STATS

Cov defenders getting into trouble

Latibeaudiere might be one of the Championship footballers most comfortable with a ball at his feet but he’s seemingly not great when he doesn’t have it – he already has four yellow cards to his name having committed 13 fouls. His defensive partner and enforcer isn’t doing much better, Kyle McFadzean with three cards to his name. Further up the field, Haji Wright has committed a foul in all four of his starts, including two or more in three of those.

Koroma to exploit cov weakness?

The defensive fouls may speak to Josh Koroma, the fleet-footed winger who has been fouled eight times this season, including in all six of his starts – if Latibeaudiere continues at right-centre-back, we could have another card and some fouls on our hands. Delano Burgzorg has been fouled in his last four appearances despite not always starting. It’s the midfield feeling the wrath – Rudoni has been fouled in six of his seven appearances.

HUDDERSFIELD CARDS AND FOULS STATS

Pearson not afraid to throw his size around

Matty Pearson has already committed nine fouls this season and has fouled an opponent in six of his seven league starts, continuing a record of committing 1.47 fouls per 90 last season. Jack Rudoni isn’t afraid to put himself, the former Wimbledon man committing an impressive 11 fouls to go with his two yellow cards and that tenacity will be needed more with captain Jonathan Hogg – two yellow cards and ten fouls – not around.

eCCLES TO BE INVOVLED IN EVERYTHING

Despite a number of fleet-footed or powerful options available, it’s Josh Eccles proving to be the biggest nuisance for opponents. He has been fouled on 11 occasions this season and has been on the receiving end of a foul in six of his seven starts. The man just ahead of him in midfield, Kasey Palmer, is already receiving rough treatment, drawing seven fouls in his, being fouled in four of his five league starts.
