Crystal Palace vs Newcastle Bet Builder Stats Pack

Site TEST 16

Crystal Palace welcome Newcastle to Selhurst Park for a Saturday evening showdown under the lights. Palace will be boosted by Michael Olise’s special free kick which earned them a 1-1 draw vs Man Utd in midweek. Newcastle are in fourth place and had a whole week to prepare for this game. They beat Fulham 1-0 last Sunday in dramatic fashion with £70m man Aleksandar Isak netting in the 89th minute.

I’ve covered a stats pack for the game below, which features a ton of data to use when putting your bet builders together. If you need the lowdown on how to get the most value from the info, give my Stats Pack Guide a read via the link.

Predicted Lineups

Centre back Joachim Andersen is ruled out of this match due to injury so American defender Chris Richards could keep his place in the side at the back. The trio of Odsonne Edouard, Eberechi Eze and Jordan Ayew were dropped to the bench in midweek so are possible options to return to the team should Patrick Vieira desire.

4 2 3 1 70

Key midfielder Bruno Guimaraes will miss this match for Newcastle with an ankle injury. Thus means a switch around with positions which should see Joelinton come into midfield and Allan Saint Maximin potentially come into the team at left wing. There is a chance that striker Aleksandar Isak could be pushing for a place in the XI so would be another possible alternative. He might even replace Callum Wilson considering the fact that Newcastle have a big EFL cup semi-final on Tuesday.

Newcastle Stats Pack ul

Team stats

Palace are underachieving offensively but overachieving defensively. They average just 0.94 goals per game but their xG is 1.44. Patrick Vieira’s men have an xGA of 1.72 per game but have only conceded 1.42. The London side don’t shoot as often compared to their opponents. Palace average just 11.10 shots per match compared to 13.40 against. They only concede 4.26 SOT against per match which is perhaps a reason why their defensive record is decent.

Corners are slightly on the low side in Palace games. They only obtain 4.47 per game themselves but just 4.68 against. Palace have inverted wingers who cut inside, and they don’t stretch the by-line as often. Defensively they tend to force the opposition inside as well. Cards have been flowing though in their fixtures. Palace picked up 2.32 cards per game on average and their opponents 2.05. The Eagles rank fifth most for yellow cards in the Premier League this season and joint third for red cards.

Team Stats 88

Newcastle average 1.74 goals per game and just 0.58 against. They have been massively overarching defensively because their xGA per game is as big as 1.40 A combination of strong defending and some exceptional keeping from Nick Pope has been the main reason for this overachievement, but can it continue? They had a huge  stroke of luck last week when Mitrovic double hit his penalty attempt. The Magpies have fired in an average of 14.30 shots in each fixture, of which 4.68 have been on target. Only 3.16 SOT against per match has been crucial in restricting their goals conceded.

Eddie Howe’s men have a brilliant set piece taker in Kieran Trippier and regularly play for corners and free kicks. They average a massive 6.74 corners per game and 4.37 against. Newcastle games can get a bit frantic, and the cards have flown. The Toon average 1.74 cards per match with their opponents picking up 2.32. Newcastle matches can potentially explode given the right sort of conditions.

Team Stats 89

Player shots and shots on target

Michael Olise scored an exceptional free kick to equalise vs Man Utd in midweek. He averages 1.76 shots per 90 mins but with a poor accuracy ratio of 0.38. Three players average more than two shots per 90 mins for Palace: Odsonne Edouard, Wilfried Zaha and Eberechi Eze. Only Edouard averages more than one SOT per match though and the general theme in this squad is disappointing accuracy. It makes sense to focus on the attacking quartet in the shot market though.

2 84

Callum Wilson averages well over three shots per 90 mins but only has a SOT rate of 1.30 He scores plenty of goals but isn’t always the most accurate of shooters. Allan St Maximin has similar numbers and averages 2.55 shots per 90 mins. Attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron has been amazing this season. He is averaging 2.46 shots per game but only converting that into 0.80 SOT. Now that Aleksandar Isak is back fit he is worth looking at considering he averages 2.76 shots per 90 mins with a very high SOT ratio of 2.07.

2 85

Player goals and assists

Wilfried Zaha is the leading Palace scorer with six goals. Eze is next on the list with three goals, joint with Odsonne Edouard. Midfielder Michael Olise tops the Palace assist charts with four, whilst both Eze and Zaha have also contributed in this department. Jordan Ayew plays on the right wing a lot but has a disappointing return of just one goal and one assist.

3 85

Miguel Almiron tops the Newcastle scoring charts, netting 9 goals. Callum Wilson has scored 6 times and also contributed with three assists. Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has both 3 goals and 3 assists. Kieran Trippier is the primary set piece taker and leads the Toon with four Premier League assists this season. Other assists have generally been spread evenly around the whole team.

3 86

Player passing

Palace have only averaged 46% overall possession this season and are quite counter-attack focused in terms of tactics. Centre back Marc Guehi is the clear stand out in this market for the Eagles, averaging 60.1 passes per 90 mins. Only Mitchell and Clyne also average over 50 passes per 90 mins but neither of those tend to play entire matches.

6 70

Manager Eddie Howe is not a possession hungry coach and their statistics in this category can be mixed. They only average 42.4% off the ball away from home this season. Kieran Trippier comfortably leads their list for average passes per 90 mins (69.8), helped primarily by him being on literally every set piece. He is such a key player for Newcastle. Midfielder Bruno Guimaraes is the only other Magpie who averages comfortably over 50 passes per 90 mins. The top defender on the passing list is Fabian Schar (50.1).

6 71

Crystal Palace cards

This is a team which plays quite dirty and there are several offenders to watch out for. Marc Guehi has racked up six cards this season and Cheick Doucoure isn’t far behind him with five. Both central midfielders will get properly stuck in with Jeffrey Schlupp averaging 2.17 fouls per 90 mins in addition to picking up four cards. In attack, watch out for Wilfried Zaha because he will press hard and averages 1.13 fouls per 90 mins. He can often get frustrated at some of the treatment he receives himself.

4 95

Bruno Guimaraes is a foul magnet and will be badly missed by Newcastle. Joelinton will likely play in his spot with Sean Longstaff another player in the middle of the park. Longstaff is fouled on average at least once per game. Whoever plays upfront, be it Wilson or Isak will be a crucial matchup against Marc Guehi. Palace must have a plan for Allan St Maximin if he starts on the left wing. The Frenchman averages an astonishing 9.02 dribbles per 90 mins.

Newcastle cards

There are several stand outs in the Newcastle team for fouls and cards as well. Joelinton has obtained six cards this season and averages neatly two fouls per 90 mins. Kieran Trippier usually fouls at least once per game and has netted four cards. Centre back Fabian Schar is another player worth keeping an eye on for a potential card. Upfront, Callum Wilson is a pressing forward type of player and will get stuck in, often mistiming a tackle.

4 96

Palace have a quartet of players who regularly draw fouls. Wilfried Zaha and Jordan Ayew are the two standouts in this category, aided by their high dribbling rates no doubt. Zaha has always been one of the most fouled players in the entire Premier League in recent seasons and will give the whole Newcastle defence a difficult test, especially Kieran Trippier.. Both Michael Olise and Eze are also elusive types who get fouled around two times per 90 mins on average.
