How to bet on the League One

A wide range of bet types are available for this league such as accumulators, bet builders, doubles, trebles, BTTS and over/under bets. Furthermore, in-play wagering allows you to stay engaged with the action as it unfolds. To make an informed decision when making your bets, various factors that could influence the outcome of matches should be considered. These include which teams and players are currently in form, any injuries or suspensions during team selections, the quality of play from opposing sides and their respective home and away records. Who are favourites to win League One?

There are about 20 matches remaining for League 1 clubs to fight for the title. The current top 4 in the division are Plymouth, Sheffield Wednesday, Ipswich Town and Derby.

Despite being in 3rd place 6 points off top spot, Ipswich Town are the bookies favourites to become Champions. 2nd place Sheffield Wednesday who missed out on promotion last season are 2nd favourites with the bookies, followed by league leaders Plymouth Argyle. Derby, Bolton and Barnsley in 4th, 5th and 6th are among the favourites for promotion although they all have a large points difference to make up.

When is the League One season?

The League One 22/23 season began on 30 July 2022 and is scheduled to finish on 6 May of 2023. 24 teams are competing for the chance to be promoted.

A key date to note is that the January transfer window opened on January 1st 2023 and will close at 11pm on 31 January 2023.

Following the conclusion of the season, teams finishing in positions 3-6 will qualify for the League 1 playoff semi finals.. The winners of the two leg semi finals  will proceed to the final which will be held on 28 May  2023 at Wembley Stadium, where the winner will be promoted to The Championship.

Away from the league, there is the Papa Johns Trophy, currently at the quarter final stage with 7 out of the 8 clubs involved being in League One. The final of the competition is scheduled for 26 February.

How to watch the League One on TV

For those wishing to watch the action live on TV, Sky Sports is once again the best option as they show a range of fixtures from each match day.

One advantage that some fans may have over others when it comes to following League 1 football is access to certain streaming services like NowTV or iFollow which provide access to every minute of action that takes place over the course of the year – allowing them to stay up-to-date with their team’s progress while they’re away from home. As well as giving you full match coverage, these services also offer replays and highlights packages – ensuring viewers can catch up on any moments they’ve missed in between games too.

Aside from Sky Sports and streaming services, there are also various radio broadcasters who air live commentary for every single game throughout League Two this season – including Talksport 2 and even local radio stations in some regions – giving fans another chance to get close-up analysis from experts within the industry.

Who has won the most League One titles?

The most successful teams in the history of League One are Bristol City, Doncaster Rovers, Hull City, Plymouth Argyle and Wigan Athletic, who have each won the division four times.

Recent winners:

2021-22: Wigan Athletic

2020-21: Hull City

2019-20: Coventry City

2018-19: Luton Town

2017-18: Wigan Athletic

2016-17: Sheffield United

2015-16: Wigan Athletic

2014-15: Bristol City

2013-14: Wolves

2012-13: Doncaster Rovers

Who will be relegated from League One?

3 teams face relegation from League 1, and clubs in the bottom half of the table have just over 20 matches remaining to save themselves.

Bottom of the table Forest Green are the bookies favourite for the drop and are currently 2 points adrift of safety. MK Dons and Morecambe both one point ahead of Forest Green in the relegation zone, whilst Burton Albion in 21st place are also in the relegation conversation.

With only 10 points separating 12th and 21st place, the League 1 relegation picture could change very quickly if teams have slumps in form.
