Who will win the National League?

The National League champions are granted automatic promotion to League Two along with the league trophy. Current favourites for the title are Wrexham, owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. Notts County, who were knocked out at the quarter final stage of last season’s playoff finals, are second favourites. More distant contenders are Chesterfield (21/22 playoff semi finalists) and Woking.

How to watch the National League on TV

BT Sport hold exclusive rights to show live National League matches in the UK. They will cover 30 matches for the 2022/23 season and also show highlights.

In December 2022 the National League launched National League TV, a subscription service which allows fans to watch matches which are not on BT Sport or those taking place on a Saturday at 3pm. Matchday passes cost £9.50.

There is also the option of radio coverage to keep up to date with happenings in the division, if you are unable to catch the action on TV.

Barnet and Macclesfield (3) have won the most National League titles. Lincoln City, Cheltenham Town, Maidstone United, Altrincham, Enfield FC, Macclesfield Town, Kidderminster Harriers and Stevenage are all on 2 titles.

Who will be relegated from the National League?

Four teams face relegation from the National League to either National League North or South at the end of the 22/23 season. Two sides promoted from National League North and South respectively, Gateshead and Maidstone United, find themselves in the bottom four, whilst Scunthorpe United and Oldham Athletic who were relegated from League Two at the end of the 21/22 season are also struggling. Torquay are also one of the bookies favourites for the drop this season. However with just over half the season gone, there is time for teams to save themselves by picking up as many points as they can as soon as possible.
