European Football Outright Tips and predictions
Barcelona – to win the League
La Liga is a pretty tough one to call from top to bottom this season. A plethora of weaker teams towards the bottom makes it difficult to suggest that the newly promoted sides are a sure thing to face an immediate relegation, whilst a lack of stability from those likely to be pushing for Europe means that value is difficult to pin down in the race for the top four.
For me, the value in this league sits at the very summit. Barcelona above evens to win the league is a fantastic price given their performance levels in 2024/25, and I can’t quite believe that Real Madrid are currently odds on favourites.
Yes, they’ve now got Alonso at the helm, and yes they’ve addressed some defensive issues with the signings of Dean Huijsen and Alvaro Carreras. But, they’re not a team, it’s a string of individuals that all seemingly want to outdo each other. PSG proved that Real have a long way to go in their semi-final clash at the Club World Cup.
Barcelona, for me, are a class apart. They conceded just one more goal than Real last season, but they netted 102 in just 38 games, that’s 24 more than Real mustered. The signing of Joan Garcia in net will improve their lack of defensive stability; he’s an absolute lock-in for future Spain squads, and I wouldn’t be surprised if his calming presence sees him take the gloves of Unai Simon in the near future.
Outside of that, what else is there to be said? Raphinha has matured into a world-class operator with 18 goals and nine assists last term, whilst Lamine Yamal may well already be one of the best players on the planet at just 18 years of age. Add to that the likes of Pedri, Balde, Gavi, and Cubarsi, all academy products, and you have a squad that’s going to continue to improve on what they produced last season. They’re only going to get better.

Stuttgart – To Finish Top Four
This might just be one of the standout European Football Outright Tips of the Summer. There’s a serious bit of value in Stuttgart this summer at odds of 9/2 for a top four finish in the Bundesliga, and some might consider that a bold call given that they finished ninth in the 2024/25 campaign. However, look past that, and you have a squad easily capable of competing.
Little has changed for Stuttgart since their second place finish in the 2023/24 season. Only Bayern and Leverkusen scored more goals two seasons ago, and only Leverkusen had a better defensive record. Even last season, only the top four scored more goals than Sebastian Hoeneß’s side. So, what changed? For me, it’s the simple fact that an inexperienced squad found themselves fighting on all fronts in 2024/25; they played Champions League football, and they won the DFB Pokal. A season on from that, they’ll be better for that experience, and more competitive in the league once again.
They’ve not done masses in the window, it really is all about who Stuttgart have retained. Their squad remains intact outside of the loss of Enzo Millot, and the retention of Nick Woltemade and Ermedin Demirovic are the biggest triumphs of the window; the pair were highly sought after this summer having combined for 26 league goals last season.
So, for Stuttgart to strongarm their way back into the top four, who falters? I think you can pick anyone outside of Bayern here. Leverkusen look a shadow of their former selves under Ten Haag; they were humiliated by Chelsea last week, and the losses of Tah, Hradecky, Wirtz, Frimpong, and Xhaka will leave them reeling. Outside of that, a lack of summer business for Frankfurt really has me questioning as to whether they’ll cope with league and Champions League in tandem, especially having lost both Marmoush and Ekitike.
Spots are there for the taking, and Stuttgart are my pick to nab one of them.
Bundesliga

The Serie A title race is no doubt a tough one to call. I find it difficult to look past Napoli and Inter, but there’s little to separate the two, and I think there’s less risk attached to taking somebody for a spot in the top four.
I vehemently disagree with the markets being so strongly in favour of an obvious top four. Juventus are certainly strong enough to cement their place in that group, but to have both them and AC Milan odds on for Champions League football seems bizarre. I watched Milan as they were dismantled by Chelsea at the weekend, and if their midfield isn’t firing, they lack both firepower, and steel.
Step forward Roma. I can’t believe the bookies aren’t valuing them at the same level as they do Milan and Juve, especially when you look at their transformation in the second half of the 2024/25 season. For context, Roma picked up 53 points in their last 22 games last season, winning 16, drawing five, and losing just one.
Roma kept 12 clean sheets in that run, and managed wins against Inter, AC Milan, Lazio, and Fiorentina, whilst drawing with Napoli and Juve. In comparison, Napoli and Inter picked up just 47 and 43 points respectively in the same period.
That string of form saw Roma finish just a point behind Juventus, who finished fourth, and having nabbed Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini, I’m expecting them to have a stellar season. The man at the helm steered Atalanta to third last term, and a Europa League title the season prior to that. He has the knowhow to get the most out of a squad that’s retained key players whilst strengthening with the likes of Evan Ferguson and Flamengo right back Wesley, who impressed at the Club World Cup.
I look at this squad and I don’t see a hole. Left back is perhaps Roma’s weakest point, but they’re so consistently solid elsewhere that I feel it matters little. A top four finish is very much on the cards.
Serie A
23rd August kick off 17:30 Roma – Top Four FinishStrasbourg – To Finish Top Three
I feel as if I’m going crazy looking at this price, but call this my punt for the season. I think it’s ludicrous that a side of Strasbourg’s quality are 14/1 to finish in the top three in Ligue 1. Not only were they incredibly close to achieving that feat last year, they’ve very much improved off the back of the summer window.
I’m going to put it out there, I think this might just be the best window of any club in Europe’s major leagues outside of England. Andrey Santos may have returned to Chelsea, but the link to the Blues has certainly paid dividends. Mike Penders joins on loan as first choice keeper, Mamadou Sarr returns for a season and will be a key fixture at the back, whilst Kendry Paez is one of the most exciting youngsters about.
They’ve invested the money made off the back of the Diarra and Sarr sales incredibly wisely as well. Mathis Amougou is another incoming from Chelsea who already has experience in this league, Maxi Odeleye had offers from top clubs across Europe, and Ishe Samuels-Smith was the hottest prospect coming out of Cobham. Add to that Soumaila Coulibaly from Dortmund, and the now permanent signings of Valentin Barco and Andrew Omobamidele, both of whom have Premier League experience, and this is genuinely a squad capable of challenging France’s elite.
Liam Rosenior worked wonders with this side last term. They finished just four points off third spot, and if not for a complete capitulation in their last two games, they’d have secured Champions League football. Losses to relegation threatened Anger and Le Havre cost them that coveted top three spot, one that was in touching distance after a run of 12 games unbeaten and one loss in 19.
It’s a run that saw them beat PSG, Lyon, and Lille, and it was simply a lack of experience that saw them falter. They will be better for all that happened in 2024/25; with new signings added and the likes of Emegha and Bakwa still at the club, this is one of the most exciting crops of players in Europe right now.
