Sean Dyche walked through the doors at Goodison Park last season and made an immediate splash by beating league leaders Arsenal 1-0 thanks to a set-piece winner. How he would love to repeat the feat on Sunday afternoon. Success hasn’t really followed, Dyche intent on improving the culture at a football club in desperate need of improvement but without being able to secure the required results – they have one point from four matches last season having drawn against newly-promoted Sheffield United last time out.
The task of beating Arsenal remains an extremely difficult one. The Gunners saw off Manchester United in superb style before the international break and they have already picked up ten points from their opening four matches, suggesting they are ready to go again.

EVERTON VS ARSENAL PREDICTED LINEUPS
Could McNeil return for Everton?
Sean Dyche is a stickler for consistency and will keep the same XI wherever possible to ensure the shape and temperament of the team remains intact. Jarrad Branthwaite has replaced Michael Keane in the XI while Beto is now the number one with Dominic Calvert-Lewin injured. Dele Alli, Jack Harrison and Seamus Coleman remain absent but Dwight McNeil returned before the break – he could start here.

Jesus to rise from the bench
Gabriel Jesus’ proper return to the Arsenal team ended spectacularly as he rounded off victory against Manchester United in gorgeous fashion. He is expected to lead the line in place of Eddie Nketiah for this one. The rest of the team should remain the same with Thomas Partey absent and Oleksandr Zinchenko now fit to return to his normal spot at left-back.

EVERTON VS ARSENAL TEAM STATS
Everton not as bad as results suggest
Sean Dyche’s frustration at results and the anger towards his side can be understood given they aren’t actually performing too badly. Everton sit in the top half for expected goals, are fifth in the league for shots on target and Fourth for fewest shots conceded – not bad for a side that have one point from three games. Everton are in the top five for most corners and fewest conceded.

Gunners shooting for the top
The problem for Everton is whatever they are good at, Arsenal are doing it better. Arsenal have the fourth-best xG at this early stage and the second-best xGA behind title rivals Manchester City. They are managing over five shots on target per game and have conceded the second-fewest shots at their goal. They are top of the table for most corners taken and fewest conceded, suggesting territorial dominance in games, and have committed the second-fewest fouls.

EVERTON VS ARSENAL SHOTS AND SHOTS ON TARGET
Danjuma doing his best
Everton need a spark and Arnaut Danjuma is doing his best to provide that whether playing from the left or up top. The ex-Bournemouth man has managed an impressive 14 shots in his first few appearances with six of those hitting the target – he managed 2.56 shots per game for Bournemouth and 3.6 for Villarreal in his last two “full” seasons. Beto is now leading the line and after a goalscoring debut in the EFL Cup, he managed four shots on his first league start.

Attack not shy of a shot
As ever with Arsenal, it’s the front four that are firmly in the box seat when it comes to attempts on goal. Odegaard, Saka, and Martinelli have already managed an impressive 33 shots between them playing off Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard in attack with 12 of those efforts finding the target. Clearly, they are the place to look when it comes to your bet builder at 1.36, 1.44, and 1.57 to have a shot on target.

EVERTON VS ARSENAL GOALS AND ASSISTS
Doucoure giving his best
Abdoulaye Doucoure developed something of a reputation for being an attack-minded midfielder while at Watford and it’s something Dyche is looking to employ at Everton, moving Doucoure to a role behind the striker where he can burst beyond the last man. He scored in the draw with Sheffield United and has now mustered 1.9xG for the season – 0.1 more than team-mate Danjuma, who scored the other in that game.

Saka the main man for Arsenal
The exciting attacking midfield trio for Arsenal have all had an impact early on, mustering at least two goals or assists apiece. Saka is one ahead for goal contributions, managing an assist to go with his two goals and he is on route to another – he’s at 2.2xG for the season to date – he’s available at 2.88 to make it three for the campaign and 1.83 to score or assist anytime.

EVERTON CARDS AND FOULS stats
Everton midfield love a tackle
Everton’s midfield is all about energy, power and tenacity as they look to protect the defence and make life difficult for the opposition. The trio of Abdoulaye Doucoure, Amadou Onana and Idrissa Gueye have committed 18 fouls in their four matches and will fancy getting stuck into a talented Arsenal group. Notably, Jarrad Branthwaite has picked up two yellow cards in his two appearances and is available to pick up another at 4.33.

Questionable Havertz to be on the end of a few
Unsurprisingly, it’s Arsenal’s attack-minded players who are suffering at the hands of opponents. Eddie Nketiah is doubtful to start but has been fouled twice per 90 with likely replacement Jesus suffering 2.45 fouls per 90 last season. Kai Havertz hasn’t had the desired impact in an Arsenal shirt yet but he has already been fouled seven times – that number could increase further against the aforementioned Everton midfield.

Arsenal CARDS AND FOULS stats
Havertz may need to Kai-lm down
Kai Havertz may have a baby face and feel the wrath of opponents but he’s also terrible for giving away fouls – he has already given away at least five more than any other Arsenal player. It’s not a settling-in thing either with the German committing 2.11 and 1.99 fouls per 90 over his last two seasons – a player clearly not afraid to give back what he takes. Elsewhere, Jesus committed 1.88 fouls per 90 last season and has already committed two in less than twenty minutes of football this term.

Everton Midfield the center of attention
Havertz’s numbers are interesting given that he will be up against a midfield that not only love committing a foul but are very good at drawing them too. That particularly applies to Amadou Onana who has won nine free-kicks for his team already this term while Idrissa Gueye isn’t far behind at five. Ashley Young and Arnaut Danjuma could make life tough for Arsenal’s right-hand side – they have won five fouls apiece so far.

Everton vs Arsenal Passing Stats
Everton unlikely to make many passes
Everton’s passing numbers don’t look too bad to date given Sean Dyche sides regularly finding themselves bottom of the possession charts but they have still only had more than 50% of the ball against Sheffield United – and that was 54%. You can get decent odds on Ashley Young (63 attempted passes) and Jarrad Branthwaite (52.5 passes) to make 50 or more against Arsenal, but the Toffees are likely to be stuck averaging around 30% of the ball here.

White a very good price to make passes
Arsenal are one of the most dominant sides in the division when it comes to possession and it’s little wonder William Saliba and Declan Rice are priced up at such short odds to make passes. The outlier is Ben White, who has averaged a hugely impressive 86 passes this season, helped enormously by making 106 and 99 against Nottingham Forest and Fulham in games Arsenal truly dominated possession in. He’s available at 2.5 to make 70 or more passes and 9.0 to make 90 or more passes – that could be a huge winner in your Everton vs Arsenal bet builder.
