BMB Stats Pack Website Article 1 11 1 1 1

Fancy a France vs Republic of Ireland bet builder to kick off the international break? You’ve come to the right place if so.

Stephen Kenny’s Ireland head to the Parc Des Princes hopeful of ending France’s perfect qualification record as the pair clash on Thursday evening. It’s been a rough few years for Republic of Ireland, Martin O’Neill, Mick McCarthy and Kenny have been unable to turn the narrative towards believing the future is positive, and defeats against both France and Greece have left their slim hopes of qualifying for the Euros hanging by a thread after just three matches.

Republic of Ireland’s task could scarcely be tougher. France have reached the final of three of the last four major international tournaments and contain some of the best players from the biggest clubs, including arguably the best player in world football – Kylian Mbappe. Can Ireland do the unthinkable and beat France for the first time since the 1980s? We don’t know the answer to that, but we do have a number of highly researched thoughts written below to provide you with a comprehensive France vs Ireland bet builder preview.

FRANCE VS Republic of IRELAND PREDICTED LINEUPS

France to go full strength

France only have one competitive international this break with a friendly against Germany to follow. That means Didier Deschamps should go full strength, including the selections of Antoine Griezmann and Kylian Mbappe. Ibrahima Konate is a definite absentee having injured himself while playing for Liverpool – Arsenal’s William Saliba may step in.

Key men missing for Ireland

Stephen Kenny’s hopes of pulling off a shock this week were hindered by the announcement that teenage sensation Evan Ferguson will miss the international break. Matt Doherty is suspended too. Adam Idah will lead the line while Chiedozie Ogbene, Ryan Manning and Festy Ebosele are in line for starts.

France vs Republic of Ireland Team Stats

France dominating the group

Didier Deschamps’ outfit are in cruise control with this group, leading the way having not yet conceded a goal. They’re good for it too. They have had at least four shots on target in every game and have conceded two or fewer shots on target in three of four. Since their trouncing of Netherlands, they have picked up one card in three matches.

Team Stats 2

Irish need to show more

Ireland’s numbers look okay until you consider over half of the shots they took came against Gibraltar. They collected four yellow cards in their previous duel with the French and mustered just two and three shots on target vs France and Greece. Meanwhile, they conceded four and six shots on target in those matches.

Team Stats 1 1

FRANCE VS Republic of IRELAND PLAYERs to watch

Mbappé out to kyl

Any concerns about Mbappe slowing down in a France shirt after yet another incredible World Cup performance were unnecessary. He scored a hat-trick in the final and has followed that up with four goals and an assist in his four Euro qualifying matches, averaging 4.75 shots and 2.25 on target. Only Ireland slowed him down, but can they do that at the Parc des Princes?

Griezmann remains a class act

Antoine Griezmann may not be reaching the same levels of the past but he remains a top-class footballer and somebody that will create problems for the Irish midfield and backline – he has managed a shot on target in two of his last three matches and had three shots in the other – vs Ireland. He’s also a regular set-piece taker and worth looking at scoring or assisting at 1.73.

Coman now a key man

Kingsley Coman has perpetually been the fourth man of the French attack but he’s earned his place in the side now, proving himself versatile, diligent and also capable of packing a punch. He has managed six shots in his three Euro qualifying starts, managing a shot on target in his last two. This continues a record at club level that sees him average around three shots and a shot on target per 90 minutes.

Collins a big threat for Ireland

Nathan Collins has moved for some decent money despite being just 22 years of age and his performances for Ireland are showing just why – he loves defending and appears to be a threat in the opposition box. Collins has played 2.5 90s of football in Euro qualifying but managed five shots, including two apiece in full 90s against France and Greece – he’s available to include in your France vs Ireland bet builder to have a single shot at 2.1.

Adam might be the Idah-el man to back

Adam Idah hasn’t quite managed to have the career he had planned at this stage in terms of minutes played but he’s now got an opportunity to play regularly for Norwich and, with no Evan Ferguson, Ireland. Idah has managed five shots in his last six appearances (four of those from the bench) and has hit the target with all five – he’s 2.20 to have a shot on target.

Egan eager to lead

The Sheffield United warhorse is used to being the man to lead a backline at club and international level. He proved a threat against France last time out, mustering two efforts at goal. He’s also a threat to the health of opponents, committing five fouls (three vs France) and earning yellow cards against both France and Greece.

FRANCE VS republic of IRELAND matchups to watch

Nathan Collins vs Kylian Mbappe

Kylian Mbappe isn’t going to defend. He won’t cross the halfway line unless it’s to bend his run. With Ireland needing width, Brentford man Nathan Collins is likely to find himself watching Mbappe for much of the game, desperate for some support. The youngster has averaged 0.87, 1.08 and 0.84 fouls per 90 across his last three seasons and committed two fouls vs France last time out. Mbappe, meanwhile, has been fouled four times and averages 1.33 – 1.67 fouls per 90 per season.

Josh Cullen vs Eduardo Camavinga

Josh Cullen is the dictator back home for Burnley but has to change his style up a little internationally for a side that have less of the ball. He has committed an impressive eight fouls in three matches and the challenge gets tougher up against Real Madrid man Eduardo Camavinga. The youngster has drawn seven fouls in qualifying so far and drew an average of three per 90 in La Liga last season.

Ryan Manning vs Kingsley Coman

Kingsley Coman isn’t as immediately recognisable as his peers but remains a top-quality player, a regular for Bayern Munich and France. He has been fouled 1.3 times per 90 in qualifying so far and should be able to stay high and wide against Ireland – Ryan Manning is expected to play and has committed more than a foul per 90 in his last four seasons. He is also fouled a lot more than once per 90 and unlike Mbappe, Coman will be tasked with tracking back.
