Inter vs Bayern Munich Preview and Betting Tips
Inter pulled off a very strong result on the road in Munich, taking a 2-1 lead back to the San Siro. Inter also won 3-1 at the San Siro this Weekend, to keep their spot at the top of the Serie A. Bayern had a poor week by their standards, losing to Inter and dropping points at Home to Dortmund, however as Leverkusen failed to capitalize on their lead in the Bundesliga remains at 6. Two strong sides face off at the San Siro, with both looking to secure their spot in the Semi-Finals.

Inter vs Bayern Munich
Dayot Upamecano has missed the last four matches for Bayern Munich with a knee injury, meaning Eric Dier has slotted into a starting spot. In that time, the former Spurs man has committed six fouls, including two infringements against Inter Milan in the first leg. In total, he is averaging 0.92 fouls per 90 this season in all competitions.
Both centre backs for Bayern are tasked with pressing up aggressively in a bid to sustain attacking possession, which can often leave them exposed in midfield. In the first leg, Bayern had the lion’s share of possession, and spent most of the game in their attacking half. Particularly in the second period, the German outfit racked up 69% of the ball.
Given that they come into this second-leg trailing, Dier should find himself in a similar situation, where he has to be aggressive from the back, which lends itself to backing fouls for the Englishman.
Dier will have the tough task of trying to contain Lautaro Martinez, who played a pivotal role in Nerazzurri’s success in Germany. He popped up with the first goal of the tie, and was incredibly energetic throughout. The Argentinian also drew three fouls, and was a persistent outlet for his side.
In fact, no Inter Milan player has drawn more fouls than Martinez this campaign in all competitions, who is averaging 1.62 fouls won per 90. That rises to 1.83 when playing at the San Siro, with this bet landing in seven of his last ten starts.
Once again, he will be tasked with trying to alleviate the pressure on his side, as Bayern are expected to control the ball given the gamestate. Martinez will often find himself isolated up front, and look to draw soft free-kicks in order to gain some ground for his side.
After finding themselves 1-0 down at half-time in the first leg, Bayern Munich pressed forward in the second period, which left them vulnerable defensively. Inter Milan managed just four shots in that half, but drew two saves from Jonas Urbig, while also scoring the winning goal of the match.
Although chances were more scarce, they were of a high-quality nature.
Simone Inzaghi’s men have been strong at home in the Champions League this season, registering five wins from five. In that time, they are averaging 13.2 shots per game, with 4.8 on target – this selection has landed in four of their five European home matches.
With the likes of Lautaro Martinez and Marcus Thuram, Inter will remain a threat on the break, and will certainly be able to cause Bayern problems, especially in the absence of first-choice centre back Dayot Upamecano.
Joshua Kimmich has registered a shot in ten out of 13 Champions League appearances this season, averaging 1.31 attempts per 90. Of his 17 efforts in total, 13 have come from outside the box, as the German tends to occupy zones around the edge of the box. He has also contributed three shots from set-piece situations.
In the first leg, Kimmich did not register a shot, although he did pick up some extremely promising positions around the edge of the box – positions where he would normally shoot from. Especially in the second-half, Bayern were able to totally control possession, and we can expect something similar in the second-leg with Bayern trailing by a goal.
If Inter can keep Bayern out initially, Bayern might become a bit more desperate and result to longshots, which Kimmich is a prime candidate for.
