Scotland travel to Norway looking to keep their perfect start to UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying intact against a side yet to taste victory.
Both nations peaked in the late 90’s and early 00’s but Scotland managed to end their long wait for major tournament football in 2020 where they were able to take a point off England in the group stage, and now, victories over Spain and Cyprus have set them on route to make it consecutive tournaments. Norway are hoping to follow suit having failed to qualify since 2000 but have so far lost in Spain and drawn in Georgia.
Both sides will be keen for victory here, Norway looking to secure a first win in their first home tie while Scotland know a win sets them up nicely for the rest of the qualification campaign. We have reviewed both sides ahead of this fixture to provide you with the most up to date stats to support you with your Norway vs Scotland bet builder and even provided our own tips at the bottom of this page.

Norway vs Scotland Predicted Lineups
Haaland could return to lead the line for Norway
There should be a few familiar faces to English fans in the Norway XI. The two standouts are two players who were nominated for Premier League Player of the Year in Manchester City striker Erling Haaland, and Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard. Elsewhere, we could see current Premier League stars Kristoffer Ajer and Mohamed Elyounoussi as well ex-Premier League / EFL players in Orjan Nyland and Leo Ostigard, as ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers boss Stale Solbakken looks to make the most of having a full squad available to him.

Hero McTominay to lead Scotland midfield
Having spent much of his recent Scotland career playing in defence, Scott McTominay has enjoyed moving back into midfield, scoring four goals in their first two qualifying matches. The XI is expected to be a who’s who of Premier League and EFL talent led by Andrew Robertson and Kieran Tierney. The only change likely from victory against Spain comes at centre-back, where Grant Hanley is injured. With Scott McKenna also missing, there is a chance for John Souttar to stake a claim.

Norway vs Scotland Team Stats
Norway finding things tough
Norway had promotion in the Nations League in their own hands before losing against both Slovenia and Serbia, and they haven’t really recovered. Despite their xG for and against being relatively similar, they have found goals hard to come by, but are letting them in at the other end. Still, their style clearly translates well to creating opportunities and winning corners for their centre-halves to attack. Like Scotland, there are plenty of cards in their matches and it is worth exploring for your bet builder.

Scotland in fine form recently
Steve Clarke has done a tremendous job in charge of Scotland, and that is showing no signs of stopping, winning four of their last five matches and conceding one goal in the process. They have been very impressive in those fixtures, playing with an air of dominance and offering their opposition little to nothing in the way of chances. For your Norway vs Scotland bet builder, it might be worth considering cards – there have been average of five per game.

NORWAY VS SCOTLAND PLAYERS TO WATCH
Haaland dazzling on international stage
When you think of Erling Haaland, you consider the work he has done at club level, scoring goals for fun in Norway, Austria, Germany and now England. However, the 22-year-old has proven himself just as ruthless on the international stage, scoring 21 goals in 23 appearances. He missed their first two qualifying fixtures but scored six goals in six matches during the Nations League against opposition such as Sweden, Serbia and Slovenia. As for shots, he has managed 70 in 19 competitive fixtures and 39 shots on target. He’s the obvious man to back in your Norway vs Scotland bet builder, even on the back of winning a treble for Man City.
Norway vs Scotland

Odegaard not afraid to throw his foot in
Martin Odegaard has rightly earned plaudits for a phenomenal season with Arsenal, constantly involved in making things happen in the final third. However, Norway aren’t quite as dominant and he has to show a different side to his game. That means sticking his foot in, and it led to him committing six fouls in six Nations League matches and another two against Spain in their first qualifier. Notably, he was also on the end of five fouls in those Nations League games – expect Odegaard to be involved in the thick of things.
Norway vs Scotland

Ostigard an aerial threat
Leo Ostigard is new to the Norway set up but was backed to start all six of their Nations League matches and has since started two friendlies and both of their qualification fixtures. The ex-Brighton defender is not only a decent defender but somebody that loves to attack the ball, managing 11 shots in his eight competitive fixtures for Norway and is available at 4/7 to have a shot against Scotland.

All-action McGinn key to Scotland
John McGinn was named captain of Aston Villa by Steven Gerrard, a man who knows a thing or two about dynamic midfielders. McGinn certainly fits the category as a man that can tackle, carry and shoot. McGinn started all six Nations League matches and their two Euro 2024 qualifiers, managing at least one shot in seven and two or more shots in five, having a shot on target in five too. The number of fouls committed and drawn match his Premier League numbers too, with McGinn drawing and committing six fouls in qualifiers so far. He was fouled two or more times in four of their Nations League fixtures.

Dykes good for a foul up top
Steve Clarke has shown faith in Queens Park Rangers striker Lyndon Dykes to lead the line thanks to him offering a sizeable frame and powerful running. While the aim is for the striker to hold up play and draw fouls, he also commits a fair few too. In his last six competitive starts, Dykes has committed nine fouls (at least one in every match) but also drawn a foul in five of those matches. Scotland will utilise his qualities as much as possible to get them up the pitch and Dykes will be out to show he can contend with quality such as Ajer and Ostigard.
Norway vs Scotland

Robertson forward forays often lead to a shot
Andrew Robertson is well known for his forward forays and high energy displays for Liverpool down the left and he plays a more advanced role for Scotland at wing-back. That shows in the number of efforts he has at goal, managing a shot in eight of his last 11 competitive fixtures – and two of the three matches he failed to have a shot were against the kind of top-class opposition where he would have been asked to be slightly less risky in his forward running. Norway aren’t of that ilk and you can expect Robertson to gallop forward and try his luck – he’s priced at an incredible 11/10 to shoot.

NORWAY VS SCOTLAND MATCHUPS TO WATCH
Martin Odegaard vs John McGinn
Two players that love to foul the opposition and love to draw a foul from them. This will be an enticing match-up with McGinn tasked with denying Odegaard opportunity to dominate but also wanting to take him the other way where possible. Both players commit comfortably over a foul per 90 on international and club duty and draw a high number of fouls too. This is the type of battle that should work well for your Norway vs Scotland bet builder.
Erling Haaland vs Ryan Porteus
Ryan Porteus of Championship Watford will find himself at right-centre-back looking to stop Erling Haaland in his tracks as the Norwegian to looks to turn on his favoured left-foot. The giant Norwegian striker commits over a foul per 90 both at club level and for Norway and will want to make his presence felt by two giant Scotland centre-backs. Porteus isn’t afraid to stick the boot in, however, and has not only drawn six fouls in his three Scotland starts but also committed four of his own.
Mohamed Elyounoussi vs Aaron Hickey
Down Scotland’s right-hand side will be Brentford wing-back Aaron Hickey and he will take on Southampton winger Mohamed Elyounoussi in what could become a game of chicken and one that is certainly interesting for the bet builder. Hickey will know that Elyounoussi poses a threat and with Haaland looking to occupy half spaces between the centre-backs, Hickey may be forced deeper. However, Hickey is young and will want to break forward and he does so to good effect, drawing 15 fouls from opponents in the six matches he has played more than a half of football for Scotland. Elyounoussi, meanwhile, has committed a foul in six of his last seven competitive internationals.
