Liverpool vs Chelsea Bet Builder Stats Pack

Site TEST 9

In the strangest and most unexpected of scenarios for both, Liverpool and Chelsea are languishing in the Premier League’s midsection and are in desperate need of a momentum-swinging result ahead of their showdown at Anfield.

As we cross the campaign’s half-way point, Liverpool and Chelsea have collected just 28 points each with performances from both sides falling way below expectations so far. However, a victory for either struggling outfit in this afternoon’s meeting on Merseyside could spark a turnaround in fortunes.

As per the usual set-up, I’ve assembled a stats pack for today’s titanic tussle below, which features a mountain of metrics to use when putting your bet builders together for the fixture. If you need the lowdown on how to get the most value from the info, give my Stats Pack Guide a read via the link.

Lineups

Liverpool are still without injured quintet Arthur Melo, Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota, Roberto Firmino and Virgil van Dijk, though striker Darwin Nunez is fit for the bench.

Cody Gakpo starts up front, while Bajcetic, Milner and Elliott come in for Fabinho, Trent and Nunez respectively.

Chelsea’s treatment room is very crowded at present with Christian Pulisic, Edouard Mendy, N’Golo Kante, Reece James, Denis Zakaria, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ben Chilwell and ex-Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling all rubbing shoulders in there.

Loanee Joao Felix is still suspended following his debut dismissal against Fulham. New signing Mykhailo Mudryk is part of the matchday squad, while fellow winter recruit Benoît Badiashile continues at centre-half.

Team Stats

Liverpool kept their first clean sheet in seven attempts since the campaign’s resumption when they shut out Wolves in the FA Cup on Tuesday, though the Reds did lose the xG battle against Wanderers (0.25 to 0.99), and defensive issues continue to hamper their progress in the Premier League.

Incredibly, last season’s runners-up are carrying the sixth-worst xG against figure per 90 in the division, while just half a dozen sides have been conceding more shots on target (p/90).

Only Brentford’s David Raya, Fulham’s Bernd Leno and Everton’s Jordan Pickford have made more saves than Liverpool’s Alisson (61) this term.

Team Stats 78

Chelsea snapped a four-game winless run with a timely 1-0 triumph over London rivals Crystal Palace last weekend, though the Blues haven’t won a Premier League away game since their triumph at Aston Villa on October 16th.

Chelsea mustered 15 attempts but conceded 10 shots of their own against the Eagles and their shots for/against stats per 90 for the entire campaign highlight the lack of control the Blues have had in games, and the end-to-end nature of many of their contests.

Graham Potter’s troops picked up two bookings against Palace and Chelsea have collected 42 cards to Liverpool’s 19 since August. The Blues are priced at 6/4 to amass over 2.5 of those today.

Team Stats 79

Player Shots and Shots on Target

Darwin Nunez should be back in the saddle today following a short lay-off and that should be music to the ears of bettors everywhere – especially those piecing together bet builders for this afternoon’s tussle.

In his last three Premier League appearances, the Uruguayan clocked 16 attempts and six shots on target and his shoot-on-sight policy makes him excellent value at even money to lodge two or more accurate attempts again against Chelsea.

Mohamed Salah meanwhile, has hit just one shot on target in his last 289 minutes of football, which covers three starts and one substitute appearance. With the Egyptian slightly off the boil, Nunez becomes an even more attractive option.

2 75

With a mixture of factors combining to hold them back, Chelsea have been playing with a spark in the final third for an extended period, though homegrown midfielder, Mason Mount, rarely lets a game pass him by without racking up an attempt or two.

The 24-year-old has mustered four shots on target in his last five starts for the Blues and at 5/6 to test Alisson with at least once strike at Anfield, the prices look good.

With injuries mounting, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang could spearhead the Chelsea attack today, however, the ageing Gabon international failed to get a shot on target in five of his last six runouts in blue and it might be better to exclude him from your coupon.

2 76

Player Goals and Assists

The last two encounters between Liverpool and Chelsea both finished 0-0 (FA and Carabao Cup Finals), though Mohamed Salah was generally the go-to-guy for the Reds against the Londoners before that.

The talismanic winger has scored four times against Chelsea since 2019, which is more than any other current Liverpool player, and Salah should interest quite a few at 11/8 to score anytime today.

The erratic Darwin Nunez is 7/5 in the same market, while new boy Cody Gakpo is 2/1 to break his duck for the club.

3 76

Kai Havertz has been Chelsea’s most-productive player in front of goal in the Premier League this season, though the German might be handed a watching brief today.

A glance down the list of the Blues’ next-best scorers would drain the enthusiasm from even the most rock-solid of optimists, but if you’re a believer in fairy tales, Mykhailo Mudryk is priced at 3/1 to mark his first appearance with a goal.

In terms of overall contributions, Mason Mount is right up there with five and the England international can be backed at 17/10 to either score or assist at Anfield.

3 77

Player passes

Their supporters would argue that they haven’t been doing enough with it, however, Liverpool are still the Premier League’s second-best team at keeping the ball behind Man City, and the Reds will expect to have the lion’s share of possession against Chelsea today.

Fullbacks Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are continuously fed the ball on the flanks in Jurgen Klopp’s system, though the former generally sees more of it than his Scottish teammate.

Alexander-Arnold has beaten a 70 passes target in four of his last six league starts and he is priced at 7/5 to match that again against Chelsea.

6 61

Like Liverpool, the more defensive players in Chelsea’s team tend to recycle the ball more often than their counterparts further up the pitch and the vastly-experienced Thiago Silva has a head calm enough to rack up some decent numbers today.

The 38-year-old has played 70 or more passes in 11 of his 16 Premier League starts for the Blues in 2022/23 and the Brazilian stalwart looks best placed to distribute his way past that total at 1/2 this afternoon.

6 62

Liverpool Cards

Some very combustible characters will share the midfield battle zone at Anfield today, and Liverpool pair Thiago Alcantara (3/1) and Fabinho (10/3) won’t shy away from any skirmishes with their blue-clad opponents.

Both players rank high for fouls committed per 90 this season and they should happily trade blows with the members of Chelsea’s engine room on Merseyside.

Joe Gomez meanwhile, has been carded four times in just 15 starts in all competitions for Liverpool this season and knack for entering the notebook could make him one to watch in the market at 12/5.

4 86

Conor Gallagher relishes the physical side of football and the combative 22-year-old is enough of an irritant to draw Fabinho into some frustrated challenges today.

Midfield metronome Jorginho sits just behind Gallagher on the pitch and on the list of Chelsea’s most-fouled players this term and he could face punishment from the sometimes-cynical Thiago.

Mason Mount’s ball-carrying skill combined with his line-breaking runs could pull Joe Gomez into some uncomfortable positions a little further forward.

Chelsea Cards

With Chelsea amassing over twice as many cards as Liverpool this season, your bet builder should probably include more Blues than Reds from today’s booking market options.

Hard-working starlet Conor Gallagher (17/10) plays with his heart on his sleeve, though his exuberance often spills over into over aggression and the 22-year-old has been carded three times in his last five appearances for Chelsea, despite starting just twice during that period.

Young French defender Benoît Badiashile (4/1) was eased into Premier League life against Crystal Palace last week, though the Anfield atmosphere will be a different kettle of fish for the 21-year-old, who was cautioned five times for his previous club Monaco between August and December.

Jorginho (12/5) and Thiago both chose not to represent Brazil at international level, though that’s just about where it starts and ends in terms of common ground for the pair, and they will happily kick each other from the first whistle today.

4 87

Harvey Elliott has become something of a midfield mainstay for Liverpool, though the promising youngster sill has some filling out to do and he could get bullied by Conor Gallagher today.

Darwin Nunez gives most centre-halves a bruising test and the dynamic centre forward will be aiming to give Benoît Badiashile a proper introduction to the Premier League. There is serious card potential in that head-to-head.

As we touched on above, both Jorginho and Thiago will give as good as they get today, and it wouldn’t be a massive shock to see referee Michael Oliver taking both players’ names at Anfield.
