Liverpool vs Union St Gilloise Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview

Liverpool vs Union St Gilloise Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview Featured Image

Liverpool continue their Europa League campaign after getting off to a winning start in matchday one by beating LASK 3-1. They now welcome Royale Union Saint-Gilloise to Anfield and are heavy favourites to prevail. The Belgian outfit drew 1-1 vs Toulouse in their first fixture and will be bang up for this clash. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has some big games coming up soon and this is not a fixture he will want to get replayed!

Union have the same owner as Brighton, Tony Bloom, and will be looking to put themselves on the map in one of the biggest matches in their recent history.

Liverpool vs Union Predicted Lineups

Plenty of rotation is possible for Liverpool

The Liverpool XI is very difficult to predict. Last time out, Jurgen Klopp made full-scale changes in this competition but with Trent Alexander-Arnold now back close to full fitness will he be benched again ahead of a big game at the weekend? Cody Gakpo is definitely ruled out injured and it’s possible that Curtis Jones could play due to his impending domestic suspension. The safest spot to predict is probably in goal where Irishman Caoimhin Kelleher is currently the designated cup starter for the Reds.

Both wingbacks doubtful for Union

Union St Gilloise manager Alexander Blessin has employed a 3-4-2-1 system in every match so far this season, so there’s no reason to suggest that will change. There are injury doubts to both wingbacks Alessio Castro-Montes and Loic Lapoussin but they could still play. Top scorer Dennis Eckert-Ayensa is ruled out with a knee injury which has kept him out of the last four fixtures.

Liverpool vs Union Team Stats

Home side have been free-scoring

Liverpool have an xG of 2.29 per game, one of the highest in the Premier League. They have been creating a lot of chances and scoring a lot of goals this season. The Reds have also been shooting freely with over 16 shots in each game although their accuracy has been poor, only converting that into 4.86 shots on target per game. The Merseysiders average 6.57 corners per game which is really high. Their average card count has now gone through the roof after racking up eight vs Tottenham, but generally, they are a well-disciplined side.

Corners and cards to watch with plucky Belgians

The Belgian visitors have legitimate and decent xG and xGA metrics. They fire in over 17 shots per game with six on target, although we can’t expect them to have as many opportunities to shoot in a game like this one. At the other end of the field their opponents only average 7.20 shots against, but Liverpool will pose a much bigger challenge. Union fixtures average over ten corners and exactly five cards which might be something to watch out for.

Team Stats1

Liverpool vs Union Players to Watch

Nunez to fire

Darwin Nunez should get a start in this game and will be gunning to find the back of the net. He is 2.0 to score anytime which looks like a big price at home in a Europa League group game. Nunez has looked much improved this season and found some form. He is known to be a serial shooter but his odds of 1.36 to have five or more shots look far too short considering he could get subbed off. Taking him at 1.62 to have two or more shots on target could be the better addition to your Liverpool bet builder.

Elliott shots to watch

Harvey Elliott should see some significant game time in this clash and is a midfield runner worth looking out for. Last season he fired in 30 shots from 1700 minutes of Premier League action and does like to try his luck with some attempts. He is not especially accurate and only bagged one goal so the best place to look is in the shots market. Elliott tried three shots vs LASK in matchday one and is 1.57 to attempt the same again at Anfield.

Nilsson to take his chance?

With Dennis Eckert ruled out injured, Gustav Nilsson will probably play up front, and he will be desperate to become a hero at Anfield. He is 1.62 to have two or more shots, which is not a lot to ask from any starting centre forward. Union will have limited chances, but players often get speculative in these types of games and shoot from range. The former Hacken and Brondby man has netted three times already this season so won’t lack confidence.

Puertas to Purr

Spanish playmaker Cameron Puertas has racked up an impressive seven assists this season for Union St Gilloise. He’s also scored a couple of goals and if the away side are to get on the scoresheet, then this man will more than likely be involved. For those who are brave, taking him to score or assist as a massive 5.0 could be a huge addition to your Liverpool vs Union bet builder.

Kevin Mac Allister not to go home alone

There is the potential for an interesting matchup in this game with two brothers Alexis and Kevin Mac Allister facing off against each other. Centre back Kevin currently leads the cards list for Union St Gilloise with four so far this season. He is 2.70 to be carded in this fixture which could cop if he is trying extra hard to out-perform his brother’s team.

Liverpool vs Union Matchups to Watch

Charles Vanhoutte vs Ryan Gravenberch

Union St Gilloise midfielder Charles Vanhoutte produced four fouls vs Toulouse in the first group game and will be tasked with getting stuck in tonight. The Liverpool midfield lineup is hard to predict but he will be facing the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Harvey Elliott and Wataru Endo. At the time of writing no odds are offered on him to be carded or produce fouls but should he be in the starting XI then he must be worth looking at to have a dirty game.

Cameron Puertas vs Wataru Endo

The Union St Gilloise attackers will probably be more aggressive and press at times, possibly giving away some cheap free kicks in less dangerous areas. Puertas was fouled twice vs Toulouse and could be a candidate to disrupt the Liverpool defensive line. He is 1.25 to have one or more fouls and 3.30 to be carded which are options to consider.

Kevin Mac Allister vs Darwin Nunez

There will be a lot mentioned about the Mac Allister brothers facing each other but the Union St Gilloise defender will have to focus on the Liverpool attackers, such as Darwin Nunez. As mentioned above, he is 2.70 to receive a card and 1.73 to have two or more fouls. He committed four cautions vs Toulouse in matchday one so this looks a smart addition to your Union St Gilloise bet builder.
