Luton Town vs West Ham United Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview Featured Image

Kenilworth Road is finally ready for Premier League action. The place will be absolutely buzzing for Luton’s first home match since winning promotion to the top-flight of English football. They face a stern test against reigning UEFA Conference League champions West Ham United who remain unbeaten and are second in the early-season table.

The Hatters have tasted defeat on the road twice so far but gave a good account of themselves in patches against European qualification chasing sides in Brighton and Hove Albion and Chelsea.

Luton VS West Ham PREDICTED LINEUPS

Ross Barkley Set for Home Debut

The home team are without Dan Potts and Jordan Clark for several months. Defender Gabriel Osho is also still out with a knee injury. The Hatters should line up in either a 3-5-2 or 3-4-3 system and have a similar XI compared to the one that lost to Chelsea. Ross Barkley will probably retain his spot in midfield, although there is some competition for Elijah Adebayo’s place in attack.

Soucek a confirmed casualty

Midfielder Tomas Soucek will miss this match for West Ham due to injury. Said Benrahma probably comes into the side with Lucas Paqueta playing a bit deeper. Nayef Aguerd could come into consideration at the back after completing his suspension.

Luton vs West Ham team stats

Luton conceding a lot of shots

The Hatters have only played two matches so far and lost them 4-1to Brighton and 3-0 to Chelsea. Those were two tough road fixtures and it’s no surprise to see Luton averaging only 31.5% of the ball. Luton were outshot 19-11 at Stamford Bridge last Friday night and 27-9 against Brighton. They have been competitive with corner numbers only losing out 12-11 overall. Luton are the sort of team who will play for set pieces, so watch out for that. They only had one shot on target in the Chelsea fixture but did manage three against Brighton.

Hammers happy to give up the ball

West Ham have started the season surprisingly well and are unbeaten with seven points so far. Their performance last week against Brighton was impressive. Despite being outshot 26-12 they comfortably won the xG battle 2.95-1.37. The East London outfit have the lowest average possession of any team in the Premier League (28.3%) but their counter-attacking style has served them well so far.

Luton vs West Ham PLayers to Watch

Ryan Giles is a triple threat

The former Wolves man is going to be on most of Luton’s set pieces, even if Ross Barkley might nick a couple off him in more central areas. Giles also pops up dangerously on the left-hand side and is worth looking at in several markets. He is 1.83 to have one shot or more, which looks big in a game like this one. Giles is 4.50 to have a shot on target, something he managed last week at Stamford Bridge. To score or assist he’s priced at 4.0 and he’s a player who could merit great appeal to any Luton bet builder in some fashion.

Carlton Morris to keep shooting

Carlton Morris is by far Luton’s biggest threat and was their top scorer in the Championship. He scored from the penalty spot against Brighton and can be a serious physical handful. Morris fired in four shots vs Brighton and had two on target. He backed that up with a further three attempts against Chelsea. He is priced at 1.53 for at least one shot on target and 1.57 for three or more shots, which can be considered to add to your Luton vs West Ham bet builder.

Bowen’s on fire!

Jarrod Bowen has literally been on fire to start the season, weighing in with two goals and an assist. He averages 3.7 shots per game so far and clearly his confidence is up. He will offer a significant threat for the visitors and must be a serious option to add to any West Ham bet builder. Bowen is 1.50 to have at least one shot on target which looks generous considering his recent form.

New man Ward-Prowse looks dangerous

James Ward-Prowse got on the scoresheet last week and this already looks like an excellent move for both the player and the club. We know the ex-Saints man is a set piece wizard so for him to be priced at 1.57 to have two or more shots looks big. He’s 2.25 to score or assist and 1.83 to hit the target at least once. These are all possibilities for a man who should be brimming with confidence after last week.

Antonio looking to score again

Michail Antonio is a powerhouse striker who could be important for the Hammers here against a physical and robust Luton outfit. He should be able to impose himself and he’s also a man in form having netted in both of his last two games. Antonio is 3.25 to score anytime which looks a big price against the favourites to finish bottom of the Premier League. He can be backed at 1.53 to have at least one shot on target which also looks generous.

Luton vs West Ham matchups to watch

Marvelous Nakamba vs Lucas Paqueta

The key midfield battle of this match pits former Villa man Marvelous Nakamba against Lucas Paqueta who was on the radar of Man City this summer. Nakamba averages 1.5 fouls per game so far and will be massively tested here. Paqueta will also get stuck in and is no stranger to giving away free kicks at an average of 2.7 fouls per game this season. Nakamba can be backed at 1.4 for at least one foul, which is tempting.

Elijah Adebayo vs Nayef Aguerd

Adebayo is a very physical striker for Luton, and they will use him as a weapon to target West Ham defenders. There’s a good chance he will get substituted off anyway so he can be more aggressive and give away a few cheap fouls or even take a yellow card. He’s 1.83 to have two or more fouls and 4.50 to pick up a card, both could be considered for your Luton bet builder.

Issa Kabore vs Emerson Palmieri

Luton will be using a wing backs system in either a 3-4-3 or 3-5-2 formation. Speedy wide man Issa Kabore, on loan from Man City will offer an obvious threat down that side of the field and will keep Emerson honest for the visitors. The Italian averages the second-most fouls for West Ham this season of any player (1.7 per game) and can be backed at 1.5 for at least one foul, which looks like value to us.

Calendar 1st September
Football icon kick off 20:00
Football icon Carlton Morris 3+ shots
Arrow down

Luton’s number nine has been a reliable source of shots this season, firing four against Brighton and three against Chelsea. On his home Premier League debut we expect him to let fly a few times.

Football icon Jarrod Bowen 3+ shots
Arrow down

His form and confidence are so high right now that he’s an obvious candidate to perform well in this game. Bowen is averaging a massive 3.7 shots per game and will surely chance his luck a few times. West Ham are odds-on favourites to win so he should get his opportunities.

Football icon Over 3.5 cards
Arrow down

West Ham have obtained at least three cards in every match so far so should be good for at least a couple. In their first ever Premier League home match Luton Town will be properly fired up and should get stuck in. Referee Paul Tierney is likely to be a fairly busy man and dishing out four cards seems the minimum here.

Football icon Marvelous Nakamba 1+ foul
Arrow down

Up against the tricky Lucas Paqueta in midfield, Nakamba is averaging 1.5 fouls per game this season and should commit at least once in front of a raucus crowd at The Kenny.
