Newly promoted Luton get their first taste of a Saturday lunchtime kick-off in the Premier League as they welcome unbeaten Tottenham to Kenilworth Road.

The Hatters registered their maiden win in the Premier League by beating Everton 2-1 on the road last weekend, but followed that up with defeat against Burnley in midweek. Spurs claimed a controversial 2-1 win vs Liverpool and if they collect all three points they will go top of the table.

Luton vs Tottenham predicted lineups

Amari’i Bell doubtful for Luton

The Town have been employing three men at the back this season and look set to line up in a 3-4-2-1 system. Amari’i Bell is doubtful after coming off injured in midweek vs Burnley whilst Gabriel Osho and Dan Potts are out long term. Two of their summer additions in midfield are also potentially ruled out. Sambi Lokonga is expected to miss out until November whilst Ross Barkley is listed as a doubt for this fixture.

No new concerns for Spurs

Spurs should continue in their usual 4-2-3-1 system. They have several long term absences but no new concerns. Brennan Johnson isn’t expected back until after the international break and the same can be said for Giovani Lo Celso and Rodrigo Bentancur. The attacking quartet of Heung-Min Son, Richarlison, James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski should all start.

Luton vs Tottenham team stats

Hatters corners stands out

Luton have been underachieving with their metrics at both ends of the field. Their average goals scored of 0.86 should be higher according to their xG of 1.26. They do have a high xGA of 1.83 and the Premier League has been a tough environment for their defence. The big problem that the Hatters have is a serious lack of shots on target at just 1.86 per game. They have registered a high number of corners though (6.43) and are known to play for set pieces. Cards have been on the low side in Luton games, and they’ve been well disciplined so far.

Strong attacking metrics for Spurs

Spurs have enjoyed an excellent start to the season and have been especially impressive in the final third. They have a healthy xG, have averaged 2.43 goals per game and are aided by a high frequency of shots (19.71). This contributes towards their extremely high 7.43 average shots on target per 90 minutes. At the other end of the field, their xGA of 1.43 suggests they have been slightly fortunate compared to their actual 1.14 conceded. Corners and cards have been really high at an average of 12.42 and 7.71 respectively.

Team Stats 1

Luton vs Tottenham shots and shots on target stats

Hatters are not very accurate

The home side average less than two shots on target per game so it doesn’t make sense to look into that market. Jacob Brown and Carlton Morris average close to three shots per 90 minutes and Morris especially could be considered. He leads the line as Luton’s number nine, is on penalties and has been scoring some goals, Morris can be backed at 1.80 to have three or more shots, whilst Brown is 1.62 to have two or more. Either could be an option to add to your Luton bet builder even if they might not get that many opportunities.

07 10 2023 LUTON TOWN betbuilder stats pack SHOOTING

Maddison the value

Spurs average nearly 20 shots per game and these attempts have been spread evenly amongst the whole team. Four players average high numbers with James Maddison and Son Heung-min both standing out especially. Midfielder Pape Sarr is another who has a high shot average this season. He can be backed at 1.50 for two or more shots which could make for some appeal. Son is 1.44 to have three or more attempts with Maddison even bigger at 1.67. The England playmaker is 1.44 to have one or more shots on target which looks a great addition to any Spurs bet builder considering he averages nearly two shots on target in each game.

Luton vs Tottenham goals and assists stats

Alfie to make you some dough?

Carlton Morris is the leading Luton goalscorer with three goals. Two of those have been from the penalty spot and it certainly helps he is the designated spot-kick taker. Two assists from Luton have been defenders Alfie Doughty and Reece Burke. There was a recent statistic which showed Doughty has created the most chances per 90 of any Premier League player (3.70) so he must be worth watching at left wing back for an assist. He can be backed at 5.50 in this market which looks like a big price for those who are feeling brave.

07 10 2023 LUTON TOWN betbuilder stats pack GOALSCORING

Son and Maddison the clear standouts

Heung-Min Son stands out as he is having a brilliant season so far and has netted six goals. He is 2.0 to score anytime which looks like a more than acceptable price to add to any Tottenham bet builder. James Maddison is another obvious threat and is 1.91 to score or assist. He is dangerous in so many different areas so is perhaps worth a nibble. Richarlison is even shorter in this market at 1.73 but his inconsistency is off-putting.

Luton cards and fouls stats

Marvelous value to foul

Luton have been a very clean team this season, averaging less than two cards per game. This has perhaps been a strategy of Rob Edwards’, not to give away that many cheap free kicks. Two players who do stand out are midfielder Marvelous Nakamba and right back Issa Kaboré. The former was a key man in their promotion campaign but has found life more difficult in the Premier League, already racking up three cards and averaging over two fouls per 90 minutes. Both players are 1.83 to have two or more fouls.

07 10 2023 LUTON TOWN betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

Spurs left hand side to cause issues

James Maddison and Yves Bissouma have been the most fouled Spurs players which further suggests Nakamba will have difficult game for Luton. The Spurs left-hand side could also provide some trickery with Destiny Udogie and Richarlison causing issues. Both have a high dribbling rate and in the case of Richarlison, he can really wind up opponents. Both Issa Kaboré and Teden Mengi could find themselves under significant pressure.

Spurs Cards Drawn

Tottenham cards and fouls stats

Spurs dirty under Postecoglou

‘Angeball’ is often frantic and high intensity. Spurs average 3.71 cards per match which is really high. Midfielder Yves Bissouma and left back Destiny Udogie both stand out in this category with Udogie averaging nearly 2.50 fouls per 90 minutes. The whole spine of the team will get stuck in with both Richarlison and Sarr also standing out as options in the fouls or cards market.

4 2

Ogbene could cause the most problems

Luton are not a team who tend to draw that many fouls. Their opponents have only obtained 1.71 cards per game, so for once Spurs might have a cleaner match. Chiedozie Ogbene stands out as someone who could cause trouble though. He averages nearly five dribbles per game and has been fouled 2.70 times per 90 minutes. He could float around a bit but is more likely to sit in the hole which puts the likes of Sarr and Bissouma in the firing line.

Football icon Over 2.5 Goals

Luton have an average xGA of 1.83 and their defence has desperately struggled in the Premier League so far. Spurs have scored at least two goals in every match but have only kept two clean sheets so the Hatters might be able to contribute as well.

Football icon Over 9.5 corners
Arrow down

Spurs matches average a massive 12.42 corners per game whilst Luton often play for set pieces and average an impressive 6.43 by themselves.

Football icon James Maddison 1+ shots on Target
Arrow down

The England playmaker averages nearly two shots on target per 90 and should get ample opportunity to fire at goal vs this type of opponent. He will be on dangerous set pieces close to goal as well.

Football icon Marvelous Nakamba 2+ fouls
Arrow down

The Luton midfielder averages 2.14 fouls per 90 and is up against a cluster of players such as James Maddison and Yves Bissouma who tend to draw a lot of fouls. There is a lot of pressure on Nakamba and it will be hard for him to have a clean game.
