Last season’s Serie A midfielder of the season Tijjani Reijnders got his Premier League career off to a flying start away to Wolves last weekend with a goal, an assist, and a glorious chipped through-ball to set the first City goal in motion.

The Netherlands international was clinical in front of goal, and should be full of confidence, having bagged two goals in City’s only pre-season game against Palermo. This will be his first chance to impress the home crowd at the Etihad, and we see no reason why he will not pick up where he left off at Molineux.

Reijnders averaged 0.80 shots on target per 90, but he should have even more opportunity to get forward in a City side that not only dominates the ball, but now looks much more keen to exploit counter-attacking opportunities than previous iterations under Pep Guardiola.

With 3 shots in his first league game at City, and at least 2 shots in 6 of his last 8 league games between his new club and AC Milan, it would be no surprise to see Reijnders notch another shot on target here.

It is not just in the shot on target markets where new man Reijnders appeals and we’re backing him again, this time to commit at least one foul. Whilst it was his attacking qualities that were showcased most prominently last weekend, he did still quietly pick up three fouls and a booking in his Premier League debut.

Against a Tottenham team more set up to challenge Man City, Reijnders should have more defensive work to do, and as shown last weekend, he is not afraid to stick a foot in. He has fouled in 3 of his 4 Man City starts to date, as well as in 8 of his last 10 starts in all competitions.

Man City’s fluid midfield setup sees Reijnders and Bernardo Silva interchanging throughout the game, making exact matchups hard to pin down, but we should see the 27-year-old in and around Pape Sarr and Rodrigo Bentancur here. The pair won 1.65 and 0.54 fouls per 90 in the Premier League last season, suggesting a Reijnders foul shouldn’t be too hard to come by.

As well as his new teammate Reijnders, we’re also backing Man City’s Erling Haaland to pick up a foul here. The big man up front is an intimidating presence for defenders, but someone unlikely to be fazed is today’s opponent, Cristian Romero.

Haaland really gets fired up by defenders who are willing to challenge him and Argentina international Romero fits that billing. This could be a real battle, and if it turns out to be one, then the likelihood of a Haaland foul increases massively.

Having said that, even without some added needle this looks like a good bet regardless. The Norway international has fouled in 8 of his last 10 starts in all competitions, including each of his last 5 starts in a Man City shirt.

Haaland averaged 1.13 fouls per 90 for Man City in the Premier League last season, and he will be up against the aforementioned Romero, as well as Kevin Danso and Micky van de Ven, who won 0.76, 1.39, and 0.79 fouls per 90 in the league for Tottenham in 2024/25. With so many foul-winning defenders in and around Haaland, at least one foul seems likely.

Pedro Porro has been solid for Spurs for some time now, but the arrival of Thomas Frank will surely benefit him more than almost anyone else in the Tottenham side. Always a very attacking presence at full-back, he is ideal for the wing-back role required to play Frank’s 3-4-1-2 formation.

The Spain international has been fouled in 8 of his last 10 games in all competitions, including 6 fouls won in his last 4 games. It is in the Premier League though where Porro wins the most fouls, winning one in each of his last 8 starts for Tottenham, and in 11 of his last 12.

Porro won fouls in both clashes with Man City in the league last season, and here he will be up against new City left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri, who has fouled 5 times in 4 starts with his new club, and Jeremy Doku, who has fouled in 5 straight starts for Man City.

Doku especially is one to watch for this bet. Excluding the 3-1 win over Bournemouth in May, where he came on in the 90th minute, the Belgium international has now fouled in 6 straight games for Man City.
