Manchester City vs Burnley Bet Builder Stats Pack

Manchester City vs Burnley Bet Builder Stats Pack Featured Image

Lancashire rivals Manchester City and Burnley collide in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup this evening, reuniting Pep Guardiola with his former captain Vincent Kompany as the former clubmates face off from opposite dugouts.

With home advantage to harness, Man City are the bookies’ odds-on favourites to breeze past Championship leaders Clarets, though a shuffled Cityzens pack could narrow the gap in quality between the teams and a fascinating tussle could be in store at The Etihad Stadium.

Below, I’ve compiled a stats pack for this evening’s cup tie which should arm you with enough info to take on the bet builder markets with extra confidence. I also recommend taking a glance at my Stats Pack Guide for some more valuable titbits.

Predicted Lineups

Manchester City’s squad is currently injury and suspension-free, leaving Pep Guardiola with decisions to make all over the pitch. With his team’s schedule gruelling, Pep could rest several of his biggest starts later on.

Julian Alvarez, Kalvin Phillips, Rico Lewis, Sergi Gomez and Cole Palmer will all be hoping to see minutes against Burnley. Back-up keeper Stefan Ortega has been favoured for domestic cup fixtures this term and the German could be handed the gloves again today.

Man City Stats Pack 18.3

Josh Brownhill is in the treatment room for Burnley and won’t be involved today, while Darko Churlinov, Manuel Benson and Jay Rodriguez are also nursing ailments and are unlikely to be involved. Bailey Peacock-Farrell could continue his streak of starting every FA Cup game in goal for Burnley this season.

Battle-hardened campaigner, Ashley Barnes could spearhead the Clarets’ attack, while Hjalmar Ekdal and Jordan Beyer could form a young partnership at centre-half. Vincent Kompany is expected to field his side in his preferred 4-3-3 formation on his return to Manchester.

Team Stats

Manchester City have had a tight stranglehold on the domestic game for several seasons now, though their dominance hasn’t extended to the FA Cup and they have lifted the trophy just once in the last 11 years, reaching just two finals since 2012 overall.

In the Premier League, City have been clocking impressive stats in multiple disciplines, though their numbers in attack have been particularly eye-catching. The Cityzens (6.56p/90) have been racking up more corners than any other team in the top tier, and they look decent value at 1/2 to win over 6.5 of them again today.

Six of City’s last nine assignments at home have also featured over 2.5 goals and the hosts have the quality to cut through Burnley’s rearguard today if they are fully on song. Over 2.5 goals can be added to your bet builder at odds of 1.47 this evening.

It’s already pretty apparent that Vincent Kompany is a dedicated Pep Guardiola disciple in terms of his tactical outlook and footballing philosophy, and many of Burnley’s underlying stats in the Championship this season compare well to City’s a step up the pyramid.

Defensively, the Clarets have been doing some exceptional work in the second tier, conceding just 0.78 goals, 0.88 xG and 2.84 shots against per 90. Burnley have been collecting more cards than Man City this season however, and Kompany’s charges should be the more aggressive side at The Etihad Stadium again later on. Burnley are a generous-looking 8/15 to amass more cautions than their hosts in the markets.

Player Shots and Shots on Target

Erling Haaland could be wrapped in cotton wool today, though forwards Julian Alvarez, Phil Foden and Riyad Mahrez have enough in their armoury to replace the Norwegian’s output in the aggregate.

Alvarez has been clocking 1.32 shots on target per 90 this season, though the 23-year-old could improve on that today in a game City should dominate and the Argentinean could be good business at 8/15 to lodge at least two accurate attempts. Foden (6/5) and Mahrez (10/11) could also be worthwhile options in the same market.

17 03 2023 MANCHESTER CITY betbuilder stats pack SHOOTING

Several of Burnley’s more attack-minded players have been carrying impressive figures in the shots and shots on target stakes this term, though it’s easier to pepper teams in the Championship than it is to lay a glove on Man City.

When Burnley travelled to Manchester in December to play United in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford, they managed to get just one shot on target, and they could struggle to penetrate again today. It might be smarter to stick to the shots rather than the shots on target market for Clarets players then, where Nathan Tella looks like a strong coupon-filling candidate at 1/3 to register 1+ attempts.

Player Goals and Assists

Erling Haaland scored a staggering five goals in one sitting in the Champions League in midweek, though the Norwegian hotshot might be given the evening off against Burnley. With Haaland on ice, the three players we highlighted in the last section – Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Riyad Mahrez – are thrust forward as the likeliest City players to do damage in the final third.

Foden scored twice at Championship side Bristol City in the FA Cup’s previous round and the England international is a nifty 4/6 to either score or assist again today. Mahrez, who has two FA Cup goals under his belt this term, is 8/15 in the same market, while Alvarez – who collected three goal contributions in his last four starts for City, looks backable at 1/2 in the same arena as his fellow forwards.

17 03 2023 MANCHESTER CITY betbuilder stats pack GOALSCORING

Burnley’s Nathan Tella warmed up for today’s high-profile cup clash by netting a superb hattrick in the Clarets’ 3-1 win at Hull City on Wednesday evening and the Southampton loanee is way out on his own as the club’s leading marksman this season.

Tella is playing enough of a swagger to convert a chance if it falls his way, however, while he is a whopping 17/2 in the anytime scorer market, adding the 23-year-old or indeed, any Burnley player to your bet builder has the potential to detonate your entire docket. City have conceded just one goal in their last five home fixtures.

17 03 2023 BURNLEY betbuilder stats pack GOALSCORING

Player Passing

Man City are still setting the standard in terms of possession retention and Pep Guardiola’s slick passers will expect to hog at least 65% of the ball when they host Burnley later on.

My predicted lineup graphic shows Aymeric Laporte and John Stones paired at centre-half, but whoever is chosen to start at the back for City is almost certain to rack up big passing numbers today. Similarly, holding midfielder Kalvin Phillips should see plenty of the ball if he features as City’s defence screener. There should be value on offer in the 70+ and 90+ passes markets for that trio this evening.

17 03 2023 MANCHESTER CITY betbuilder stats pack PASSING

Burnley centre-halves Hjalmar Ekdal (84.7 p/90) and Jordan Beyer (81.2) have been knocking pass after pass around in the Championship this season, as has midfield lynchpin, Josh Cullen (69.6), though matching those lofty figures will be difficult at The Etihad Stadium.

Beyer did play 64 passes at Old Trafford against Man Utd in the Carabao Cup before Christmas, however, which is a decent barometer. If you are determined to add some Clarets’ players from the passes markets today, aim low and fish for value in the 30 to 50 passes ranges.

Manchester City Cards

Bernardo Silva is fond of an ankle nip or two in midfield and the diminutive Portuguese star is never shy about getting stuck in when required. Silva has been committing 1.11 fouls per 90 this season and the 28-year-old is 1/3 to sin at least once again today.

Nathan Ake (0.7) could fill in at left-back against Burnley and the Dutchman’s concentration could be tested by the livewire Nathan Tella on the flank. Ake is 4/7 to commit 1+ fouls this evening.

Aymeric Laporte is usually savy enough to avoid committing too many indiscretions, however, he could be marking Ashley Barnes today – a striker who will tumble even if he hears a whisper in his ear.

17 03 2023 MANCHESTER CITY betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

Josh Cullen is usually in the wars in midfield and the Irish international has been fouled 1.56 per 90 this season. Cullen’s skirmishes with Bernardo Silva could draw intervention from referee John Brooks today.

The Clarets’ leading marksman, Nathan Tella, has been fouled a hefty 2.54 times per 90 this term and the Stevenage-born attacker will be determined to unsettle his marker (Nathan Ake/Sergio Gomez) as often as possible. Striker Ashley Barnes has long been an expert at winning free kicks from bemused defenders and the 33-year-old will be happy to hit the deck whenever Aymeric Laporte comes into contact with him later on.

Burnley Cards

In Jack Cork and Josh Cullen, Burnley have a hard-working and hard-hitting duo in midfield, and both players look like solid contenders in the card and fouls markets today. Cork and Cullen should have plenty of tackles to make and passing patterns to disrupt and the latter looks like superb value at 1/2 to commit 1+ fouls at The Etihad Stadium.

Cork meanwhile, is already into double-figure cards for the campaign and the 33-year-old is 5/2 to see yellow again. Left-back Ian Maatsen, who is on loan from Chelsea, will be keen to show that he can mix it against Premier League opponents, though the 21-year-old has an over-exuberant tackle or two in his locker, and he should interest plenty of 5/6 to commit 1+ fouls later on.

17 03 2023 BURNLEY betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

Burnley could double up on Phil Foden (fouled 1.35 times per 90) when the dangerous attacking midfielder sees possession today, and tough-tackler Jack Cork could be among those to gang up on the 22-year-old. Kalvin Phillips could be a little rusty if he is handed the rarest of starts today, and Josh Cullen could be an unsettling presence in midfield for the ex-Leeds man.

The mix of tricks and experience wielded by Algerian winger Riyad Mahrez (fouled 2.03 times per 90) should provide the stiffest of tests to greenhorn defender Ian Maatsen down the City right flank. The foul count could be lofty in that head-to-head.
