Newcastle vs Wolves Bet Builder Stats Pack

Newcastle vs Wolves Bet Builder Stats Pack Featured Image

Newcastle will be desperate to bounce back following a couple of disappointing results recently. They lost 0-2 vs Man United in the Carabao Cup final and then by the same score away to Man City last week. They need to pick themselves up and reignite their battle for the top four. It won’t be easy facing a Wolves side who have been much improved under Julien Lopategui. They claimed a morale boosting 1-0 win vs Spurs last week.

If you’re hoping to place a winning bet builder on this one, then make sure to take a look at the stats below. Have a gander through my Stats Pack Guide if you need any help in understanding how best to use the numbers.

Predicted Lineups

The big injury doubt for Newcastle is centre back Fabian Schar who has been in concussion protocol recently. If he isn’t cleared to return, then Jamal Lascelles will keep his place in the team.

Joelinton is suspended due to an accumulation of yellow cards but Joe Willock should slot in to replace him and is now back close to full fitness. The ongoing battle between an out of -form Callum Wilson and Swedish international Alexander Isak upfront is very intriguing.

Newcastle Stats Pack 12.03

Wolves are in quite a settled phase right now. Adama Traore scored a crucial goal coming off the bench last week but is expected to remain as a potential ‘super sub’ here. Mexican international striker Raul Jiménez should come into the side to replace Diego Costa who came off injured in last week’s match.

Team stats

Newcastle average 1.46 goals per game and just 0.71 against. Their xG and xGA figures are fairly closely correlated. The Toon have only conceded 10.58 shots in each game which has helped their impressive defensive record. Nick Pope has had a strong season in goal but faced just 3.17 SOT per match.

The Tynesiders average a whopping 6.79 corners per game and just 4.46 against. They have an excellent set piece taker in Kieran Trippier, so the Toon will regularly play for corners or free kicks. Cards have flown readily in their games, averaging 1.92 themselves and 2.21 against.

Wolves only average 0.73 goals per game and have not been known for their offensive prowess this season. Their defence is ok, only averaging 1.35 goals against. Wolves only faced 4.04 SOT per game which is quite good for a team in the lower third of the table. Some of their offensive issues might be down to only firing 11.04 shots per game.

Corners have been relatively high in Wolves fixtures. They average 4.85 per match themselves, whilst they’ve conceded 4.96. Cards have also been on the high side for Wolves, picking up 2.19 themselves, with the opposition averaging 1.81 per game.

Player shots and shots on target

Whoever starts upfront for Newcastle must be a candidate for shots or SOT. Alexander Isak has much better accuracy than Callum Wilson with 1.74 SOT per 90 mins. Wilson would likely fire more shots if he starts considering his 3.18 average.

The duo of Saint Maximin and Almiron are two players likely to shoot at goal and both average well above a couple of attempts per 90 mins. Joe Willock is also close to banging in two attempts per 90 mins.

09 03 2023 NEWCASTLE UNITED betbuilder stats pack SHOOTING

Raul Jiménez should start upfront for Wolves in this match. He averages roughly one shot on target per 90 mins from 2.72 attempts. The trio of Podence, Sarabia and Cunha all average fairly high numbers of shots but the trio aren’t especially accurate, which rather sums up the offensive problems of this team.

11 03 2023 WOLVES betbuilder stats pack SHOOTING

Player goals and assists

Miguel Almiron leads Newcastle in the scoring charts with ten goals, but has been relatively quiet since the World Cup break. The same can be said for Callum Wilson who simply hasn’t been firing on all cylinders for a while.

Bruno Guimaraes is a key man for Newcastle and has weighed in with 3 goals and 3 assists. Alexander Isak must be knocking on the door for a start soon. He has missed a large portion of the season due to injury but has scored three times.

09 03 2023 NEWCASTLE UNITED betbuilder stats pack GOALSCORING

The Wolves scoring chart is not an impressive look. Both Daniel Podence and Ruben Neves have five goals each but nobody else has more than one goal apart from Adama Traore. A few starters, including Sarabia and Cunha have only been at the club since the January window though, so could yet improve their numbers significantly.

Player passing

Newcastle average 51% possession. Eddie Howe is the sort of manager who will adapt to different teams and situations. He has been gradually implementing a more ball-hungry style for the Toon but equally he’s happy to counter-attack when needed.

Four players who average above 50 passes per 90 mins are Kieran Trippier, Bruno Guimaraes, Fabien Schar and Sven Botman. Guimaraes especially is at the heart of the team and will readily get involved.

09 03 2023 NEWCASTLE UNITED betbuilder stats pack PASSING

Wolves average 50% possession and are very difficult to predict in this department. There is a feeling that new manager Julien Lopategui is trying to instil more of a pass happy attitude and approach but it’s still very much a work in progress.

Defensive trio Dawson, Collins and Kilman all average at least around 55 passes per 90 mins. Key midfielder Ruben Neves is often the main man and averages close to 60 passes He should last the full 90 mins barring injury.

Newcastle cards

The normal Newcastle banker to go into the book Joelinton is suspended after picking up 10 yellow cards. Kieran Trippier is usually good for at least one foul per game. He is a clever and experienced operator who will ‘take one for the team’ if needed. Midfield is where a lot of the action is here and Bruno Guimaraes averages 1.52 fouls per 90 mins.

From more limited minutes, it is noticeable how high Jamaal Lascelles foul rate is (2.73). He also has four cards and might consider himself under pressure as he is replacing Schar in the team.

09 03 2023 NEWCASTLE UNITED betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

Adama Traore is the obvious player who can cause the most problems to Newcastle defence. He dribbles nearly 6 times on average per 90 mins and gets fouled 2.21 times. Striker Raul Jiménez is also fouled a high number of times (2.06) and will be facing Lascelles.

Cunha and Nunez need watching, and Wolves do have some decent technical players who can be problematic with their trickery.

Wolves cards

Ruben Neves only averages exactly one foul per 90 mins but has obtained 9 cards. He is a clever player and will readily commit a cynical tactical foul if needed. His next card will result in a 2 game ban though. Right back Semedo has seven cards and a fairly high foul rate (1.52). The trio of Podence, Lemina and Ait Nouri all have four cards and a sizable foul rate around 1.50 per 90 mins.

11 03 2023 WOLVES betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

The midfield duo of Bruno Guimaraes and Shaun Longstaff will be difficult matchups for Wolves. Guimaraes is fouled over 2.5 times per 90 mins and he has a similar dribbling rate. Teams target him as the main man for Newcastle.

Either Anthony Gordon or Allan Saint Maximin on the left wing will be problematic for Nelson Semedo. Both have high dribbling rates and should be fouled once or twice each.

Perhaps a more lowkey affair this one, but there’s plenty on the line for both sides. That should make this an exciting watch, and a great game for a bet builder. You can check out my picks below.

Newcastle vs Wolves

Calendar 12th March
Football icon kick off 16:30
Football icon Over 8.5 match corners
Arrow down

Newcastle average 6.79 corners for, and 4.46 against P/90 (11.25 match corners on average).

Wolves average 4.85 corners for, and 4.96 against P/90 (9.79 match corners on average).

Football icon Jamaal Lascelles 1+ fouls
Arrow down

Jamaal Lascelles has found game time difficult to come by this season, but even in his limited appearances, fouls and cards have been a given. With Fabian Schar still battling back from a concussion, the Newcastle captain should feature. He commits 2.73 foul P/90, and has picked up 4 cards.

Experienced forward Raul Jimenez will be his opponent, and the Wolves man is fouled 2.06 times P/90, and attempts 1.27 dribbles. He’ll look to work the Newcastle centre back all afternoon long.

Football icon Kieran Trippier 1+ fouls
Arrow down

Kieran Trippier has been a fantastic addition to the Newcastle side ever since his move in January 2022. The stand-in captain has proven capable in every facet of the game, although his fouls P/90 has seen a slight increase of late. That number currently sits at 1.20 fouls P/90, and that bodes well for a Trippier foul here.

Any number of the tricky Wolves forward could cause the Newcastle man problems here, but Matheus Cunha seems the likely candidate. The Brazilian is fouled 2.00 times P/90, and Wolves’ flashy January signing attempts 3.33 dribbles P/90, something that Trippier will need to keep tabs on.

Football icon Nelson Semedo 1+ fouls
Arrow down

Perhaps the best bet outside of January signing Mario Lemina for a Wolves foul here. Right back Nelson Semedo has been a consistent culprit in the fouls department all season, the 7 cards to his name evidencing that. He’s committed 1.55 fouls P/90, and more could well come on Sunday afternoon.

Semedo is likely in trouble regardless of his opponent here. Anthony Gordon and Allan Saint-Maximin are the two most likely candidates to occupy the left wing for Newcastle, and the pair are fouled 1.67, and 1.31 times P/90. Both should get game time, and both are capable of drawing multiple fouls.
