Premier League Outright Tips and predictions
Tottenham – top Six Finish
Some may laugh given how poor Spurs were in the league last season, but I don’t think that should have any bearing on how they’re likely to perform in 2025/26. For me they’re the team best equipped for a top six finish outside of last season’s top four, even with Champions League football to contend with as well.
Son may have departed, and Maddison may well be out long term, but Thomas Frank should be thoroughly encouraged by the fact that most of those who spent long periods out on the sidelines are now back and fit to play, including centre back pairing Romero and Van de Ven, as well as starting number nine Dominic Solanke.
An ease to fitness concerns is as good as having new signings for Spurs, but the addition of Mohammed Kudus trumps all of that. Goals, creativity, it’s a much needed profile given Maddison’s absence. Talk of a move for Eberechi Eze is heating up as well, and if that comes to fruition, a forward line consisting of those names, as well as Solanke and Kulusevski, could be devastating.
Yes, Spurs are in a transitional phase, but Thomas Frank is an incredible man manager and is one for getting the best out of what he has. They’ll be nowhere near as difficult to beat as they were under Postecoglou, and he’ll have plenty of attacking riches at his disposal. Given the issues at Newcastle, and given what Amorim has shown thus far at United, there’s certainly a gap in that top six for Spurs to fill.

I was hugely impressed with Crystal Palace towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign, and I was just as impressed in their Community Shield triumph over Liverpool at the weekend. They may well have Conference League football to contend with this year, but the quality of said competition may allow for some rotation, which should see them compete well in the league.
They were well worth the win on Sunday, and the performance of Ismaila Sarr may well alleviate fears that Eberechi Eze could be on his way. He was fantastic against Liverpool, and actually scored the same number of goals last season as Eze. Now settled in the squad, I’d expect his numbers to improve, and alongside Mateta, Palace have a lethal duo there that can trouble most sides.
Signings are still needed, but no doubt money will be reinvested if Eze is to depart. Sarr proved a fantastic addition after the departure of Olise last summer, so I’d have faith in Palace being able to recruit well once again. If they keep Eze however, then it’s a frighteningly good attack.
If they do just that, and the forward line continues to fire, then I think they’ll have little trouble in competing for a top half spot next season. They actually ranked in the top half for defensive records last term, and given that they lost just five of their last 27 games of the season in 2024/25, minor adjustments and improvements at the start of the campaign this year should see them climb a few spots.
Crystal Palace for me are being underestimated. They have a manager in Glasner that knows how to win, with an FA Cup now added to his Europa League triumph at Frankfurt, an efficient midfield, and a very effective frontline that have proven capable against the best teams in the league. They’re on the up, and absolutely one to watch.

15th August kick off 20:00 Crystal Palace – Top Half Finish Add To Betslip Brentford – To be Relegated
As of right now, this selection is largely based on Brentford’s failure to reinvest the money from the Mbeumo sale. The Bees were hugely reliant on both him and Wissa last season, but I can’t see them putting up the same sort of numbers in attack this term until new faces arrive.
The loss of Mbeumo will no doubt be felt; I think Brentford will struggle to find 20 Premier League goals, and seven assists, elsewhere in their squad. And, with 19 goal forward Yoane Wissa seemingly angling for a move as well, the Bees could be set to lose 59% of the goals they scored last term.
What doesn’t help matters is that those two, as well as Schade to an extent, covered for the fact that Brentford weren’t particularly great defensively. Only the relegated trio of Southampton, Leicester, and Ipswich saw higher expected goals against numbers last season, and with captain Christian Norgaard moving to Arsenal, that’s your organiser and midfield general gone as well.
Perhaps the biggest loss for Brentford to this point is that of Thomas Frank. The Dane has massively overachieved with this Brentford squad, a total of 39 points in 2023/24 the closest this Brentford side have been to relegation in their short Premier League career. Frank has managed two top 10 finishes and got the best out of what he had at his disposal; I simply don’t think Keith Andrews will be able to achieve the same in what is his first full-time managerial role.
It’s not as if Andrews has a lot to work with here. He’s already lost his captain, his top scorer, and Wissa looks set to follow suit. They’re yet to be linked with anyone since the signings of Kelleher and Milambo in early July, and whilst Jordan Henderson is a decent pickup on a free, for me it’s not enough given the lack of experience that Andrews has in the dugout.

15th August kick off 20:00 Brentford – To Be RelegatedBurnley – To Finish Bottom
I think this is going to be the first time in the last three seasons where a promoted side, or two, survive the drop. Sadly, I don’t think Burnley are going to be that team, and if anything, I can’t see them finishing anywhere but rock bottom.
I’m hugely concerned for them; I look at the summer business of Leeds and Sunderland and I get excited. The former have strengthened at the back with Jaka Bijol, whilst Sean Longstaff adds much needed top flight experience; Sunderland have done the same with the signing of Granit Xhaka, and have added young and exciting names in Diarra, Talbi, and co.
The standout moves at Burnley have been outgoings however; captain and top scorer Josh Brownhill was directly involved in 24 of their 69 goals last season, whilst James Trafford was the key component of that incredible defensive record. With incomings, I’m less than convinced by Kyle Walker, who looked shot at City last season, whilst Broja is an injury waiting to happen and Ugochukwu struggled for game time at Southampton.
On top of that, I can’t see Scott Parker’s style of football translating well to the top flight. An over reliance on defensive solidity isn’t going to cut it at this level against far superior attacking outfits, and they were massive overperformers in expected goals against last season anyway, and should have been closer to 77 points based on those stats.
Parker has a terrible record in the Premier League as well; he was sacked just four games into the season at Bournemouth having lost 9-0, 3-0, and 4-0 to Liverpool, Arsenal, and City respectively. And, whilst he did last the entirety of the 2020/21 season at Fulham, his side finished 11 points off safety.
This Burnley side may come to surprise later in the campaign, but right now, I don’t see them finishing anywhere but bottom.
