After a brief summer exhale, the kick-off for the new 2023/24 Premier League campaign is rapidly approaching as clubs, players and supporters alike gear up for another titanic ten-month footballing festival in England. Moreover, Premier League winner odds are fresh on the markets and it seems fitting to get things rolling by taking a look at the smartest picks.

We’ve dug out some enticing picks from the Premier League winner odds, accompanied by some illuminating insight into how the sides are shaping up for the new season. Will they be a new name on the Premier League trophy? Will Manchester City suffer a regression in standards after clinching the treble last term? The Premier League winner odds provide the bookmakers’ standpoint on it all at this stage of pre-season.

Manchester City

Pep Guardiola’s City have enjoyed a stranglehold over the domestic game for close to a decade and it’s easy to see why the bookmakers believe they will maintain their top-dog status in 2023/24. Despite Arsenal’s unexpected title tilt last term, City still coasted to glory with a five-point buffer, winning their fifth crown in six seasons a couple of weeks before the finish line, while the Cityzens also topped the pile from a statistical standpoint across a multitude of metrics.

However, so far this summer, City have been performing some squad trimming rather than strengthening with key components like Bernardo Silva and Kyle Walker tipped to follow Ilkay Gundogan through the exit, while experienced Croatian squaddie Mateo Kovacic remains their only new recruit of note.

Finding the motivation to go full throttle again following a treble-winning campaign might also present some issues for City and at an uninspiring 8/11 in the Premier League outright odds market, they probably won’t turn many heads. There is probably more fun on offer elsewhere. They are so short that some bookmakers are offering a market similar to the Premier League winner odds, but without City involved.

Arsenal

Right up until early April last season, it looked as though Arsenal were on course to end their wait for a first Premier League title since 2003 and though Mikel Arteta’s youthful Gunners outfit ultimately fell short, they demonstrated immense promise and will have breathed hope into an otherwise fairly disengaged supporter base, another challenge is expected in 2023/24.

Arsenal’s quest for glory last term came a little bit out of left field, especially when you consider that they finished in positions ranging from fifth down to eighth in each of the six years preceding 2023.

Their surge from the outside was powered by the joint-youngest team in the division in terms of average age (24.6) and with a more battle-hardened crew on board this time around – plus the steeling qualities of £100 million signing Declan Rice – Arsenal should really be aiming to match City stride-for-stride next season.

Mikel Arteta is now overseeing a £500m+ football project of his own design and you get the sense that his Arsenal team will need to go to the wire in 2023/24 to satisfy expectations from the boardroom and the stands.

However, this Gunners side now has genuine quality from front to back with impressive depth in most positions, and they can aim high again with confidence. At 9/2 in the Premier League winner odds, they really are the value bet in the markets and offer excellent bang for your buck.

The Champions League, and the revenue that comes with it, should give the club and its supporters another boost. This ever-improving group of players have not hit their ceiling yet.
