Fulham vs Sheffield United

It’s not been the easiest start to the season for Fulham, having to face Arsenal, City, Brentford and Chelsea. They’ve beaten Luton and Everton, whilst also picking up cup successes against Spurs & Norwich.

I think mid-table is likely as high as Fulham go this season, and although not a side you expect to rustle many feathers, they’re a side with adequate quality to beat the weaker sides in this division. Having the likes of Palhinha, Andreas Pereira, Issa Diop and co does set them aside from those below them.

I can’t see a game this season where I’d back any kind of Sheffield United result. They are dreadful. The summer departures really killed them, especially losing N’diaye so late and then moving Berge on to relegation rivals, Burnley.

The Blades are bottom. Winless. Rudderless. They’d shown signs of life against Everton and Spurs, but then they were dismantled 8-0 by Newcastle, which they followed up with another ambling performance at the London stadium.

There’s a chance Sheff Utd catch a couple of teams cold at home, but it genuinely wouldn’t surprise me if they go without an away win this season and every side will target them as 3 points, including Fulham here.

Despite not scoring in their last two, Fulham created a total of 2.70 xG. Keep that up and they should have no issue at all putting The Blades to the sword.

Leicester vs Stoke

The Foxes have equalled the best start by any side to a Championship season, ironically that of Sheffield United who we just discussed. With 27 points from 30 available, matching that of United back in 05/06.

Now, it’s time to go one better as they welcome Stoke to the King Power.

Stoke are loitering in 18th, after a 1-0 midweek defeat to Southampton. A game that The Potters would’ve fancied something from, given Saints dreadful form and leaky defence.

Stoke have won just 1 away game so far, which was against Bristol City, who have the 2nd worst home record in the division. So winning away at the strongest side in the division, by a country mile, looks like a big ask.

Leicester have averaged 2.00 xG per match so far, which is no surprise given the boat load of attacking quality they have. For a Championship side to have Vardy, Daka, Iheanacho and Mavididi all to choose from is terrifying.

This squad is so good for this level, it might be the best ever, I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised if they smash the points record this season.

Bolton vs Carlisle

Ian Evatt’s side are seriously motoring now. Two impressive back to back wins against Vale & Stevenage bring them nicely to a game that they should be winning at a canter.

Carlisle have struggled with the step up to League One, after play-off glory last season. They’re working on a very small budget, and have had difficulty recruiting the level of player they’d have wanted to help keep them up.

They’re 20th right now, and their heads are only above the relegation zone water thanks to Reading and Wigan receiving point deductions.

Carlisle have managed just 1 win so far, which came at home to Shrewsbury. They’re winless on the road and there’s huge concerns around their ability to create chances. They’ve averaged just 0.86 xG so far, and their forwards aren’t stumping up much threat, 35 year old Joe Garner is the only attacker to have scored more than one goal, and he’s not even a starter for them.

By comparison, Dion Charles and Victor Adeboyejo have scored 13 times between them for Wanderers, that’s 5 more than the entire Carlisle squad have scored this season.

Bolton have won 4, drawn 1 and lost 1 from 6 on home soil so far and I’d expect them to continue that positive trend here.
