Sheffield United vs Everton Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview

Sheffield United vs Everton Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview Featured Image

Two sides in desperate, desperate need of victory, even at this early stage, meet at Bramall Lane in the early kick-off. It’s been a rough summer for Sheffield United. They lost star man Iliman Ndiaye to Marseille and then Sander Berge to Burnley. By the start of August, the club had made just three signings, all from foreign shores, with genuine replacements coming in a tad too late to improve a start that has seen them lose all three league fixtures by one goal.

So who is going to step up for both clubs in their hour of need? Well, that’s what we are here for. Read on below for Sheffield United vs Everton stats and bet builder tips.

SHEFField UniteD VS EVERTON PREDICTED LINEUPS

McBurnie the return-ie for Blades

Sheffield United have lacked a real presence in attack having had to utilise youngsters Benie Traore and William Osula early doors. Oli McBurnie played half of their EFL Cup game in midweek and looks ready to be involved from the start here, likely to partner Osula with Cameron Archer potentially on the bench. Luke Thomas should also make his debut after a loan switch from Leicester City.

Beto in for Everton

Like his counterpart, Sean Dyche has been hopeful of having a target to hit in attack and it looks as if they have found that in Beto. He should make his first start for the club here, allowing Arnaut Danjuma to return to his position on the left wing. Jarrad Branthwaite should start at centre-back against having replaced Michael Keane last time out.

SHEFField United VS Everton TEAM STATS

Heckingbottom’s Blades blunted by Premier League quality

Of the 18 sides to play three Premier League matches, Sheff Utd sit bottom of the xG table, second bottom of the xGA table, shots taken, shots on target and shots conceded. While hosting Man City has been unhelpful to that, they would have hoped for something more from games against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace. They have also conceded the joint-third most corner kicks and are averaging over three cards per game.

Plenty for the Toffees to chew on

The stats that almost everybody cares about from an Everton persuasion is that they are yet to score and yet to pick up a point. It’s not all bad. While they have had the third-fewest shots of any Premier League team they are creating opportunities, as evidenced by the graph below. They have also had the fourth most corner kicks in the division – they certainly proved important during their survival attempts last year.

SHEFField United vs Everton players to watch

On your head Anel

Anel Ahmedhodzic is not the first player Blades fans think of as a goalscoring option but he’s doing his best to give their attack something extra. The 24-year-old has managed at least one shot in all three Premier League matches and he’s continuing the record he had from last season when he mustered 1.23 shots per 90.

Danjuma looks to be Everton’s best hope

As noted above, Everton have at least created opportunities without taking them and Arnaut Danjuma has been a key part of that, managing at least four shots and a shot on target in the two Premier League matches that have seen him play more than 50 minutes. Elsewhere, midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure has always been a decent source of goals and he has had a shot in every Premier League game he has played this season.

McBurnie return key

Oli McBurnie has endured tough times since joining Sheff Utd and his return to the fold is most welcome given the lack of experience and goal threat in the Blades’ attack. McBurnie finished up as top goalscorer last season, scoring 13 goals. Of the five players to score more than three goals last season, the only remaining player is centre back Anel Ahmedhodzic – he scored six.

Blades midfielders seeing most of the ball

Sheffield United have been happy to mix and match style in recent times but the one constant has been Oliver Norwood dictating things at the base of midfield. He has averaged 49 passes in his three games including an impressive 78 vs Nottingham Forest – he’s 1.61 to repeat the feat here. Gustavo Hamer made 47 attempted passes against Forest in the same game as he bid to make an impression – he’s 1.57 to make 50 or more on Saturday afternoon.

Everton odds surprisingly high

Few expect a Sean Dyche team to see much of the ball. However, they are playing a Sheffield United side that have averaged just over 30% of possession in their three matches while the Toffees have averaged 43% – it’s not out of the question that they could see their fair share of possession. Jarrad Branthwaite managed 58 passes in his first game under Dyche while Ashley Young and Nathan Patterson have both averaged more than 50 per 90 – they’re available at 2.10, 2.40 and 4.50.

Sheffield United vs Everton Matchups to Watch

Anel Ahmedhodzic vs Arnaut Danjuma

The defence are getting in on the act too – Anel Ahmedhodzic and John Egan have committed more than a foul per 90 minutes and they will need to be on their game again with Danjuma around.

That’s because Danjuma has already been fouled a few times this campaign and clearly enjoys it – he was fouled 1.59 times during his stellar year at Bournemouth and more than once per 90 in his 18 months at Villarreal.

Ollie McBurnie vs James Tarkowski

James Tarkowski was a regular when it came to Everton player fouls betting last year because he was so regular in committing a foul – he did so in 25 of his 38 league matches and in 12 of 17 games under Dyche. In front of him is a tenacious, aggressive group of players and they also enjoy a foul or two – Doucoure is available at 1.30 to commit a foul having committed 1.24 and 1.38 in his last two campaigns.

Tarkowski may need to commit a foul in this one. McBurnie has been fouled 1.34, 1.4 and 1.77 times in his last three seasons – he’s the man who takes the bumps and bruises for the benefit of his team getting up the pitch.
