Two of the tournament favourites will clash in an enormous quarter-final here in Stuttgart as hosts Germany take on Spain.

The 2008 and 2012 champions, Spain, brushed aside Georgia, although there was a brief hint of danger as they conceded their first goal of the tournament and fell behind early in the first half, going to win 4-1.

Germany have had a few scares, being minutes away from finishing second in Group A and struggling to break down a battling Denmark side last time out, but ultimately their progress to this stage has never really looked in doubt.

Spain vs Germany Predicted Lineups

No changes needed from Luis de la Fuente

Spain have no players injured or suspended and their serene progress through the tournament so far means the manager has no real selection headaches. Dani Olmo has been a livewire off the bench but Pedri and Rodri are near enough irreplaceable, while Fabian Ruiz has two goals and two assists, so will definitely start again here. Marc Cucurella has also impressed at left back, relegating Alejandro Grimaldo to a bench role for most of the tournament to date.

4 2 3 1 25

Two changes from Nagelsmann

Jonathan Tah has served his one-game suspension and looks set to slide back into centre-back at the expense of Nico Schlotterbeck, who had a goal ruled out in the opening minutes of his only start at this Euros against Denmark. The rest of the defence should be unchanged, with David Raum once again getting the nod over Maximilian Mittelstadt. Toni Kroos and Robert Andrich will continue to anchor the midfield, and Leroy Sane is expected to return to the bench here, with Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz preferred instead.

Spain vs Germany Team Stats

Spain corners offer solid value

Corners look like a solid option when it comes to team bets for Spain. They have had at least five corners in all four games so far, and given the strength of their group, we should not expect these numbers to decline much, if at all, here. They are dominant in possession and able to hold the ball in their opponent’s half for long periods, all of which makes corners more likely. Germany meanwhile have already conceded six or more corners twice in this tournament, allowing Hungary to take seven and Denmark to take six. Backing Spain to have over 4.5 corners at 1.57 looks a solid play here.

Germany could force plenty of saves

Germany have been a good team for the goalkeeper saves market so far, their high shot totals keep the opposing goalkeeper busy in most of their games at this Euros. The opposition’s keeper has made five or more saves in three of their four games at the finals, with Germany having had at least three shots on target in each game, and seven or more in three of the four. Spain’s Unai Simon had faced four or more shots on target in two of their three group games, making four saves in both games. He has conceded just once, from an own goal, meaning he has already prevented 3.3 xG worth of shots from going in. Backing Simon to make 3+ saves here at 1.67 looks an excellent option.

Spain vs Germany Shots and Shots on Target Stats

Fabian Ruiz shots always worth backing

Fabian Ruiz looks to be a smart choice in the shot markets here, with two angles in particular standing out. Those would be either backing the PSG man to have two or more shots at 2.0, or to have a shot on target at 2.38. Ruiz has had a shot on target in all three of his starts so far, and averages 1.72 shots on target per 90 at the finals. He has also had two or more shots in two of his three starts, taking three against Italy and seven against Georgia. He has averaged 3.79 shots per 90 at the finals and has now had at least two shots in four of his last six Spain starts both here and in qualifying.

05 07 2024 SPAIN betbuilder stats pack SHOOTING

Havertz is good value for a shot on target

Kai Havertz has consistently offered good value in the shot on target markets throughout this tournament and he does so again here, where he can be backed to register one at 1.50. The Arsenal forward has had at least one accurate effort on target in all four of his starts at the finals, taking two or more shots in three of his four games so far. He had six shots in what was clearly Germany’s most difficult game so far, against Switzerland, and managed four efforts in the last round against Denmark. The space Spain leave vacant should suit Havertz, and we expect him to hit the target at least once here.

Spain vs Germany Goals and Assists Stats

Lamine Yamal offers nice value here

Lamine Yamal is somewhat underrated in this market, his two assists leaving him joint-second for goal contributions in amongst the Spanish team at this Euros. No player has more xG+A (expected goals and expected assists) than Yamal, who has 1.5 and 1.6 respectively, for a total of 3.1. He has assisted and had a shot on target in two of his three starts and has been unlucky not to score yet at the finals. Spain are not likely to run up the score as they did against Georgia, but Lamal’s consistent threat makes him an attractive choice for a goal or an assist, especially at odds of 3.0.

05 07 2024 SPAIN betbuilder stats pack GOALSCORING

Jamal Musiala looks undervalued

Jamal Musiala has scored in three of his four starts for Germany at the finals so far, only failing to do so against Switzerland. The Bayern Munich youngster has also managed a shot on target in all four of Germany’s games so far. With 1.1 combined xG+A, only centre-forward Kai Havertz has a higher total than Musiala, showcasing his ability to consistently threaten the opposition goal with his striking ability and his creative passing. Musiala has overperformed his xG so far, scoring three goals from just 0.9 xG, so backing him to beat the odds again and score anytime at 4.33 could be a worthwhile play. He can also be taken to score or assist at 3.10 for a bit of extra security.

Spain Cards and Fouls Stats

Alvaro Morata looks like a banker

Alvaro Morata has fouled more than anyone else in a Spain shirt on a per 90 basis doing so twice or more in each of his three starts for his nation at this Euros to average 2.80 fouls per 90. He will be up against Antonio Rudiger and Jonathan Tah who have won 0.75 and 0.74 fouls per 90 at the Euros. Rudiger has won fouls in two of his four starts, including two against Switzerland, while Tah has won fouls in two of his three starts. Morata can be backed to commit a foul at 1.36.

05 07 2024 SPAIN betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

David Raum could be a nice longshot choice here

David Raum offers massive potential, available to be backed to win a single foul at 2.10 here. The left back has started just one game and made a sub appearance in another, but has won fouls in both, leaving him with an average of 1.67 fouls drawn per 90, the second-most of any likely starter for Germany. He is up against Lamine Yamal, who commits 1.72 fouls, and who has fouled in all three of his starts at the tournament so far, including committing three fouls against Georgia last time out.

Germany Cards and Fouls Stats

Ilkay Gundogan could be a nice option for a foul

Barcelona man Ilkay Gundogan looks like a solid choice to commit a foul for Germany. The midfielder has committed 0.83 fouls per 90 so far at this Euros, fouling in three of his four starts to date. He is up against an incredibly press-resistant Spanish midfield featuring Gundogan’s current team-mate Pedri and former Man City team-mate Rodri. Pedri has won 1.50 fouls per 90, the second-most fouled amongst Spanish players, while Rodri is third, winning 1.38 fouls per 90. Pedri has won a foul in both of his group stage starts, notably winning two against Croatia who pressed high, as Germany will also attempt to do.

05 07 2024 GERMANY betbuilder stats pack CARDS FOR

Rodri to win a foul offers great value

Rodri has won fouls in both of his group stage starts so far, being fouled twice against both Croatia and Italy. He did not win a foul against Georgia but this was mostly down to gamestate, with Georgia being happy to allow Spain to shuffle the ball around the edge of their penalty area and simply looking to pack the box. Germany will look to press Rodri as much as possible, and with Rodri up against the tough-tackling Robert Andrich, a foul looks likely. The Leverkusen man has committed 2.69 fouls per 90 at this Euros, including four fouls against Scotland and three against Denmark. Gundogan also looks like he could be good for a foul, so backing Rodri to be fouled once or more at 1.57 looks a no-brainer.
