Tottenham vs Man United Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview

Tottenham vs Man United Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview Featured Image

Two teams who harbour strong ambitions this season are set to do battle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a Saturday evening showdown. A new era for Spurs under the management of Ange Postecoglou started in entertaining fashion last week when they drew 2-2 away to Brentford. There were some encouraging signs from that London derby, and it probably goes in the book as a decent point on the road.

Many people thought Man United were lucky to beat Wolves. You could arguably say they were outplayed by the Midlanders on their own patch and they were extremely fortunate not to give away a late penalty. Winning is of course the most important aspect but manager Erik ten Haag will have plenty to ponder after that performance. He knows they will need to raise their levels and put in an improved display vs an opponent of higher calibre.

Tottenham vs Man United predicted lineups

Romero fitness update offers major boost

Cristian Romero’s availability was touch and go due to a head injury but the Argentine has made it back just in time. Postecoglou would have been contemplating starting Davinson Sanchez but that now seems unlikely. Ben Davies could come in after Micky van de Ven showed some signs of weakness against the Bees and it will be fascinating to see how Spurs’ new high defensive line works against the pace of Marcus Rashford and co.

Mobile forward line in operation while hojlund wait persists

Jadon Sancho and Antony are yet to justify the transfer fees that United paid for their services. However, with Rasmus Hojlund out injured and representing more of a project signing anyway, the aforementioned duo have the chance to nail down a starting berth if they can hit the ground running this season. Sancho in particular can be dangerous in transition, which is something to look out for, especially with players with the passing ranges of Casemiro and Mason Mount expected to feature.

Tottenham vs Man United team stats

Crazy start for new Spurs gaffer

Spurs were involved in a wild game vs Brentford in which they were outgunned 1.91-1.45 on xG. It is obviously very concerning that they gave up so many big opportunities last week. Brentford only had 11 shots and six of them were on target. Spurs outshot their opponents 18-11 and won the corner battle 6-3, areas which we can expect to see them dominate in several fixtures this season. They had 69% possession and will likely have the lion’s share of the ball in this encounter.

United fortunate to keep clean sheet

Man United were lucky to beat Wolves 1-0. They had an xGA of 2.14 and were extremely fortunate to keep a clean sheet. A combination of terrible Wolves finishing combined with some decent goalkeeping from debutant Andre Onana enabled them to win to nil. Quite shockingly, they conceded 23 total shots to Wolves at home and only had 51% possession in front of their own fans. They won the corner battle 8-7 but Man United aren’t always known for racking up corners due to their wide players both cutting inside regularly.

Tottenham vs Man United players to watch

Maddison off to a flyer

He always looked a good piece of business for Spurs this summer and the England international started life well with a brace of assists vs Brentford last week. He looked hungry, motivated and above all fit and ready to perform. Maddison possesses excellent technical skill and vision and is always worth looking at in the assist market.

Richarlison to rebound

The Brazilian forward was a frustrated figure for most of the match last week and Brentford did a good job taking him out of the game. He only really had one half chance late in the game and it took him a while to even register a shot. However, in the absence of Harry Kane you have to think he is going to get a lot of great opportunities. Richarlison is 1.67 to have three or more shots which looks generous considering he will want to get into the game much more this Saturday evening.

Antony always available to shoot

He is not a particularly accurate shooter, but Antony does like to try his luck. He fired in 68 shots in 21 starts last season in the Premier League and chanced his arm three times vs Wolves last time out. Antony’s style of play often sees him cut inside a lot which leads to natural shooting positions.

Tottenham vs Man United matchups to watch

James Maddison vs Casemiro

This is probably the key matchup of the entire game and could go a long way to deciding the outcome. It’s vital Man United try and marshal the former Coventry City man well and cut off the supply line. Casemiro will likely be tasked with this, and he can get his hands dirty if required to do so. He racked up 42 fouls in 21 starts last season and got whistled for two infractions on Monday evening.

Maddison can be elusive and got fouled twice by Brentford. He can get frustrated himself though and is no stranger to producing some daft challenges. He went into the book at the Gtech Community Stadium and sinned three times.

Destiny Udogie vs Antony

Brazilian winger Antony is known for his bag of tricks and is often a bit of a show pony. His end product can be inconsistent, but he has a knack for winding up opponents and drawing fouls. Wolves were sucked in to foul him twice and Spurs left back Destiny Udogie might want to make his mark on him here. Udogie was heavily involved last weekend and didn’t shy away from engagement. He was fouled twice and also committed two fouls of his own.

Dejan Kulusevski vs Luke Shaw

A lot of the attention will be on the other side of the field with Son Heung-Min up against Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Richarlison will also attract plenty of attention and it might be that Spurs end up focusing their play on the right-hand side where Dejan Kulusevski faces Luke Shaw. The Swedish international will be trying to cut inside regularly to cause Shaw some issues.

Shaw is no stronger to fouls and cards. He went in the book vs Wolves and produced two fouls.
