Notts County vs Newport
Whilst the pair have had contrasting seasons when it comes to results, it’s safe to say that both Notts County and Newport have been well amongst the goals.
The pair sit 2nd and 5th in League Two for average match goals, with 4.00 and 3.89 respectively. They’re some quite ridiculous numbers, and highlight both potency in attack, but frailty at the back.
This is a selection that’s landed in 10 out of 14 games for Notts County this campaign. They’ve netted 30 themselves, but have conceded a quite ridiculous 26, a real shock for a side towards the top of the table.
Over 2.5 has landed in all of their home games as well, with Notts County scoring 16 and conceding 13 in their 6 games on home soil.
Even better, they’ve kept just 1 clean sheet all season, so Newport have every chance of contributing here.
As for the Welsh outfit, 24 goals should be enough to have them higher up the table, but 29 conceded is holding them back, and ranks them as the second worst defence in the league.
Over 2.5 goals has landed in 12 out of 14 of their league outings, and in 5 out of 6 on the road.
They’ve kept just 2 cleans themselves, and with that in mind, goals look a given.
Wrexham vs Sutton
Entertainment is never in doubt at The Racecourse ground and I expect another high scoring affair as the celebrity owned side take on basement boys Sutton.
This selection has landed for the opposition in every single Sutton away game this season.
Their matches on the road have finished: 4-1, 3-0, 4-1, 5-3, 3-1 & 2-1.
Nobody has scored more home goals than Wrexham this season, with their matches here averaging a whopping 5.86 goals with all 7 having over 2.5 goals.
They’ve scored a minimum of 2 goals in all of their home games, and have netted 3 or more in all but one.
Their last 4 home games have finished 3-2, 3-3, 3-0 and 2-1. They were all against sides far better than Sutton, too.
The likes of Paul Mullin, Ollie Palmer, Steven Fletcher, Elliot Lee, Ben Tozer and James McClean shouldn’t be playing in League Two, it’s as simple as that. They’ll provide goals galore.
I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Wrexham steam roll Sutton by 4/5 goals here, and the fact that they’ve kept just 1 clean sheet at home would suggest that Sutton could well add to the scoreline.
Chesterfield vs York
Chesterfield have taken the National league by storm this season.
They sit atop the pile with 38 points, but what really catches my eye is the fact that they’re netting plenty of goals.
The Spireites have scored 36 times in just 15 games this season, with no other team in the National League able to match that.
The real kicker here? They’ve scored 2 or more in 11 of their outings thus far, a feat that’s also occurred in all but 1 of their home games.
When you consider that they’re playing York, I’d fancy something similar to happen again here.
The newly promoted outfit are shipping goals for fun. They’ve conceded 32 in just 16 games, and if you delve a little deeper, it doesn’t look good for them.
York have conceded twice in 11 out of 16 games this season, and are languishing down in 20th as a result.
Given they’re up against arguably the best side in the league, that defence could well crumble here.
