Ukraine vs England Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview

Ukraine vs England Stats and Bet Builder Tips Preview Featured Image

England will be hoping to continue their perfect qualification record as they travel to Poland to face Ukraine.   England’s toughest game of the group was arguably their first and they came out unscathed with a 2-1 win in Italy. Since then, it’s been plain sailing. Three wins, 13 goals, zero conceded and barely a shot in anger at Jordan Pickford’s goal.

Ukraine’s first game was probably what they viewed as their toughest – a trip to England. Since then, they have picked up two victories to step ahead of Italy in the group, a comeback victory against North Macedonia. before a 1-0 win against Malta that was more comfortable than the scoreline suggests.

Gareth Southgate and Sergi Rebrov will both be hoping for automatic qualification to the Euros and victory would be another step on that path. We’ve broken down the game to help you build your Ukraine vs England bet builder, including lineups, team stats, which players to look out for and the matchups that could get you a pretty penny or two.

UKRAINE VS ENGLAND PREDICTED LINEUPS

Ukraine missing key men

Mykola Shaparenko and Ruslan Malinovsky are missing for Ukraine, two players with a wealth of experience who were likely to start in Poland. Rebrov is at least safe in the knowledge that Arsenal’s Oleksandr Zinchenko is available again having missed the summer fixtures through injury. Andriy Yarmolenko is eyeing up the goalscoring record set by the legendary Andriy Shevchenko and should start here.

Questions to answer for Southgate

Gareth Southgate has some key questions to answer ahead of this international break. He enters it without Jack Grealish, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luke Shaw and John Stones, leaving him short of three, possibly four guaranteed starters. Ben Chilwell and Marcus Rashford are expected to step in while Jordan Henderson should keep his place despite his controversial move to Saudi Arabia. The main question comes at centre-half where Lewis Dunk and Marc Guehi will hope for a rare start.

UKRAINE VS ENGLAND TEAM STATS

Ukraine with plenty to prove

Despite two victories in their opening three matches, Ukraine haven’t really hit their stride to date. They have mustered what appears an impressive 28 shots, until you realise that 19 of those came against basement outfit Malta. Against North Macedonia they mustered just three shots on target and just three against England. Meanwhile, they’ve conceded eight and five shots on target in their first two games and committed 12 and 23 fouls in those matches.

Team Stats 2 1

Near-perfect England looking to go again

Things could scarcely be going better for England and it’s not just their results looking impressive. They have had 55 shots in four matches, mustering 14 or more in each game since the victory over Italy as well eight or more shots on target in each of those. They have conceded only three shots in that time. They are also proving to be pretty tidy, accruing just two yellow cards since opening day and they committed less than ten fouls against Italy and Ukraine.

Team Stats 3

UKRAINE VS ENGLAND PLAYER STATS

Tsygankov hoping for Viktor-y

Diminutive forward Viktor Tsygankov has taken time to make himself a regular fixture in the Ukraine XI but he looks to be making a spot his own and four goals in his last three internationals has helped, a brace against Germany in a friendly before goals against North Macedonia and Malta. He has also managed six shots and three shots on target in those two matches.

Mykolenko a threat from left-back

Mykolenko is probably fortunate that the other left-back better than him (Zinchenko) in the Ukraine squad is a player that is so comfortable in midfield, leaving him with opportunity to play. It’s an opportunity he is happy to take as well. Mykolenko has an attacking side and has managed three shots in his last two appearances and had six shots in five UEFA Nations League games. He also commits a lot of fouls, making two against England last time out – he’s up against Bukayo Saka.

Zabarnyi making his name

It’s quite something when a teenager gets called up to start international football matches and Illia Zabarnyi has now made 27 starts for Ukraine. The 21-year-old Bournemouth centre-back is getting more involved, managing a shot l in each of his last three competitive appearances – you can back him at 2.4 to have another here. He’s also shown he’s not afraid to get involved with the referee – he committed and drew seven fouls during his four Nations League matches last year.

Harry Kane not letting up

You can’t discuss England without discussing Harry Kane, England’s record goalscorer and captain. He has continued to fire goals for fun in an England shirt, scoring five during qualification so far from 3.24 shots per 90 and 2.35 on target. He has continued to perform in Germany since leaving Tottenham Hotspur for Bayern Munich, scoring three goals in three matches while mustering 13 shots with four of those being on target. Kane scores goals.

Starboy Saka flying for England

Bukayo Saka’s career continues to go from strength-to-strength, the starboy is firmly cemented as a regular in the England XI while others compete for the remaining place in the front three. Saka has scored four goals and assisted another during qualifying and his numbers are matching those of Kane – 3.23 shots per 90 and 2.26 on target. Also like Kane, he’s going big again this season – already providing three goal contributions in four league matches for Arsenal and managing 11 shots and four on target – he’s 1.40 to find the target on Saturday.

Maguire remains a big threat from set pieces

Harry Maguire is a much-maligned figure these days but his England place remains secure – at least while John Stones, Tyrone Mings, Conor Coady and Eric Dier are all unavailable and others learn what it takes to play for England. Maguire remains a key figure not just for his experience but the way his head can be something of a magnet to a football in the air – Maguire has managed 1.5 shots per 90 in an England shirt in qualifying and is 1.40 to have one or more shots.

UKRAINE VS ENGLAND Matchups to watch

Vitaliy Mykolenko vs Bukayo Saka

The kind of match-up Mykolenko would have hoped to avoid on international duty but the Everton man will have to face up against Bukayo Saka once more on Saturday. Mykolenko committed two fouls against England in the reserve fixture and has a reputation for fouling British footballers – he committed six in two matches against Scotland and one in both fixtures against Republic of Ireland. Saka, meanwhile, has already been fouled seven times during 3.1 90s in qualifying.

Vladyslav Vanat vs Harry Maguire

If Ukraine are going to get up the pitch, they are going to need 21-year-old forward Vladyslav Vanat on his game and that will mean tussling with the giant Maguire. Maguire has previous. He’s not as sharp as he once was due to a lack of game time and it has led to more contact with opponents, committing six fouls and drawing four from his opponents. Vanat played 62 minutes against Malta and committed two fouls while drawing one, suggesting he won’t be afraid to get involved in those duels.

Illia Zabarnyi vs Harry Kane

An up-and-coming talented young centre-back against one of the finest strikers in world football. This is the kind of clash that Zabarnyi can make his name with. He has shown himself to be less worried about physical confrontation, already committing two fouls and drawing three in four Premier League matches this season while he committed and drew seven during four UEFA Nations League appearances. Kane is England’s focal point and with set-pieces a big part of England’s game, he’s not afraid to draw fouls, winning seven from referees. He’s also committed three fouls.
