Experienced campaigner John Isner to ease through on Day 1
Isner has had a quiet last couple of seasons on the ATP Tour, managing his workload in the twilight years of his career. The big-serving American has not played since losing in the first round of the French Open, when he was defeated in five sets by Nuno Borges.
The court speed at the All England Club has slowed down for the tournament in the last few years, but that does not mean that Isner is not capable of producing rock-solid tennis, particularly on serve.
Isner has won four grass court titles in his career, made the semi-final of Wimbledon in 2018, reached the third round last year, beating Andy Murray along the way, and will be remembered for playing, and winning, the longest match ever played, when he beat Nicolas Mahut by clinching a fifth set 70-68 in 2010.
The 38-year-old made the final of a main tour event in Dallas earlier in the season and has received a kind first round draw against Spaniard Jaume Munar.
Munar is a clay court specialist and can be a player to oppose in the vast majority of his matches off that surface at main level. The 26-year-old has won one match from 12 on grass in his career, with that victory coming against Thiago Monteiro in the first round of Wimbledon last year. Munar was likely to be someone to get against in our Wimbledon predictions and being drawn against Isner is not ideal for his prospects.
It will be the pair’s first meeting and taking Isner to win 3-0 or 3-1 via the Set Handicap -1.5 market is the way to go.

Oppose the clay courters with Jannik Sinner on Wimbledon Day 1
Third favourite in the outright market for the men’s singles, Jannik Sinner is one to get onside in our Wimbledon predictions. The Italian has shown great promise in recent years and even led Novak Djokovic by two sets to love in last year’s tournament.
If the 21-year-old can prove himself physically in the latter stages of grand slams, the sky is the limit as far as his potential is concerned. Sinner‘s ranking of world no. 8 does not reflect his true ability and he can make a statement on day 1. Expectedly so, Sinner is very short to come through his first round match against Argentinian Juan Manuel Cerundolo.
Cerundolo, whose brother Francisco won the title in Eastbourne last week, is yet to get past the first round of any grand slam and sits at 111 in the rankings. The 21-year-old has only played two senior grass court matches in his career, losing to Enzo Couacaud (current world no. 158) in Wimbledon qualifying in 2021, and Skander Mansouri (current world no. 302) in qualifying for Eastbourne this year.
Sinner has not hit his peak levels of performance since a run to the Miami Masters final in April but should be inspired by playing the last match of the day on Centre Court. The Italian, who has been practising with Novak Djokovic in the lead-up to Wimbledon day 1, can pull off a handsome win against one of the worst players in the men’s draw at this stage of Cerundolo’s career.
There is a smidgeon of extra value for the same bet by backing Sinner (-2.5) in the Set Handicap -2.5 market, rather than Sinner 3-0 using Set Betting.

Wimbledon Day 1 Outsider Predictions
Taking in the first round action and assessing what level players are at on the surface can be a sensible approach in a grand slam. Putting bettors in a stronger position to make informed selections in the second round. There is another feast of first round action available to bettors on day 2, and therefore it is important not to take on too many selections merely due to the early buzz of the event.
There are a handful of outsiders that could be worth a look, at prices of evens and above in this section of our Wimbledon predictions. Smaller stakes are advised for these predictions.
