Burnley finally got their season started at the weekend when they hammered Sheffield United 5-0. It has been a miserable campaign for Vincent Kompany’s men, and the Clarets have struggled to adapt to life back in the Premier League. This is, however, another winnable fixture away to a Wolves side who have, at times, impressed this year but do lack consistency. Touted in pre-season to be a strong relegation candidate, Gary O’Neil’s men have so far caught many by surprise. However, 3 defeats in 4 games and a glutton of VAR decisions against them has led to a dip in the mood. If Wolves lose this game, Burnley would only trail them by 5 points.

Wolves vs Burnley predicted lineups
Jose Sa injury blow for Wolves
Wolves could be without their first choice goalkeeper Jose Sa for this game. The Portuguese international had to come off the field vs Arsenal at the weekend with a back problem so Dan Bentley could get the gloves. Left wing back Rayan Ait Nouri and influential attacker Pedro Neto both remain doubtful with injury and this match probably comes too soon. Manager Gary O’Neil has a tendency to use several different formations, but the hosts are expected to be in a 3-5-2 system for this clash.

Jordan Beyer suspended
Wolves goals for and against correlate quite close to their underlying metrics, their defence has not been very watertight at 1.79 xGA per game but they concede less than five shots on target in each contest which is a positive. Wolves only attempt 11.50 shots in each game which is quite a low number. They can be known to play certain fixtures on the back foot. It is noticeable that corners and cards numbers are high with Wolves. At an average of 3.43 cards per contest, they are one of the dirtiest sides in the Premier League.

Leaky defence an issue for Wolves

Poor offensive numbers plaguing Burnley
Burnley also have poor defensive numbers. They’ve conceded 2.29 goals on average in each game although their xGA is only 1.66. A lack of firepower is of great concern, racking up just 0.93 xG in each fixture. Scoring five times vs Sheffield United might re-ignite some of their offensive spark. The Clarets need to improve their average shot count (10.79). They have trailed in a lot of games which might explain a high Burnley corner count (6.08).

Wolves vs Burnley shots and shots on target stats
Hwang to have shooting appeal
The Midlanders don’t average a high number of shots and the two most noteworthy candidates appear to be Hwang Hee-Chan and Matheus Cunha. The latter has been more accurate with 50% of his attempts on target. Cunha is 1.44 to have at least one shot on target which is a possible bet builder option. South Korea international Hwang can be backed at 1.36 to have two or more shots and this might be the best angle for him.

Jay to make Wolves pay
The Lancashire outfit only average 3.43 shots on target per game so this might not be the greatest market to look at. Two players do average at least one shot on target per 90 mins though: Zeki Amdouni and Jacob Bruun Larsen. Jay Rodriguez opened the scoring vs Sheffield United and is 1.44 to have two or more shots which could be worth adding to your Burnley bet builder.

Wolves vs Burnley goals and assists stats
Hwang to keep banging them in?
It has been a proper rebound season for Hwang Hee-Chan, and he’s netted seven goals this term. He is 2.88 to score anytime which looks a big price in a home game vs Burnley. With Pedro Neto injured, the other Wolves player of note who stands out offensively is Matheus Cunha.

Brownhill big value to net?
It has not been a very free-scoring season for Burney and only one player (Josh Brownhill) has scored more than two goals. The Clarets had five different goal scorers vs Sheffield United with one of those who netted Jacob Bruun Larsen a massive 7.50 to score anytime here. Jay Rodriguez and Zeki Amdouni are both at 4.50 to score, whilst Burnley’s top marksman Josh Brownhill is as big as 10.0 in this market.

Wolves cards and fouls stats
Lemina licence to foul
Gary O’Neil’s men are arguably the dirtiest team in the Premier League. They average the most fouls per game of any side (13.50) and only Chelsea can topple their 46 cards obtained. It certainly makes sense to look at several of their players to be carded or in the fouls market. Mario Lemina is a serial offender so it’s a surprise to see him as big as 3.10 to go into the book and 1.30 just to have one or more fouls. Both could be additions to any Wolves bet builder. Joao Gomes is the shortest price of any player to be cautioned here (1.06) and is as short as 1.40 to have two or more fouls. Considering his averages, it looks a fair price though.

Burnley rank inside the bottom six for fouls obtained per game (10) and only really possess a couple of players who are skilful and elusive enough to cause problems. Zeki Amdouni and Luca Koleosho stand out in this category, mostly due to their high dribbling rates. The Wolves right-hand side, most notably Nelson Semedo and possibly Joao Gomes, could come under fire. Semedo is 1.91 to commit two or more fouls which could be a possibility considering his matchups.

Burnley Cards and fouls stats
Clarets clean as a whistle
The visitors rank fourth-bottom for fouls in the Premier League this season with only 10.60 per game. Perhaps this is half of their problem: they aren’t getting stuck in enough! Their most carded player Jordan Beyer is suspended here so it is hard to pinpoint who is the value to go into the book. Burnley have picked up the fourth-fewest cards of any side and there is a clear willingness to play quite fairly. No player in their squad ranks significantly high for fouls.

Wolves rank in the middle of the pile for fouls drawn with attacking midfielders Matheus Cunha and Jean-Ricner Bellegarde standing out as potential obstacles for Burnley. Perhaps Josh Brownhill (1.11) or Sander Berge (1.40) could be considered in your bet builder to have one or more fouls. It would be difficult to trust any Burnley player to have multiple fouls in this game based on the statistics.
